"Thankful" ( Thursday) Question: Where Are The Hymns?

Image
Why have we replace our hymns with contemporary music? Who said it was not working?
Hymns can teach us the art of meditation on scripture this an art we desperately need to relearn. Hymns help us take a theme and turn it over; they let us gaze on it from different angles. Hymns remind us that we can only approach God through the Blood of Jesus. The idea that we only approach God as Christian through the Blood of Christ is too rarely mentioned in most music today. We need deeper, richer and longer looks at the Cross and all that it means. For every one look you take at your sin, take ten looks at the Cross! Hymns focus us on God's promises. We need to recall " The Old Rugged Cross " that is a powerful hymn.

What are some of your favorite Hymns? My favorite hymn is "Because He Lives" God sent His Son they call Him Jesus He came to love heal and forgive He lived and died to buy my pardon an empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives How sweet to hold a new born b…

"Friday" (Grace & Mercy) Question? Why do we still need Hymns in churchs today?

Image
Because hymns opens our eyes to see Jesus for who He really is. Hymns are wonderful for doing this. Because of the longing to experience God our churches today long for an experience with God, and hymns are some of the richest expression of Christian experience we have. They are a doorway into sensing the truth in our hearts rather than just "knowing" it in our heads. Hymns help us grow up, hymns teach us the rich theology we really need. If we have a limited view of who God is and what the gospel is our experience of it will be limited as well. We link the gospel and it needs to be beat into our heads over and over again! Hymns really stretch us. Hymns are min meditations on the paradoxes of the Gospel that drive us to Jesus. What do you think do we still need hymns in the Church today?

"OLD HYMN" (THURSDAY)

Image
This old hymn takes me back to the days when I lived with my grand mother. She used to sit on her front porch and sing [sang] that old hymn.

Remember me, remember oh Lord, remember me.
Father I stretch my hands to Thee, no other help I know.
If thou with draw thy self from me, Oh whither shall I go?
