Pastor Refuses To Pray For A Tithe Paying Member Of His Congregation?!?

Church, this is heartbreaking, to say the least,  I’ve never heard of a minister denying someone prayer, especially a tithe “paying” member of the church. I'm guessing he thought she hadn’t been “paying” her tithes since she wasn’t in the church building. Check out how this son came to his 72-year-old mom's defense after her pastor of 20 years refused to pray for her. Y'all we got to do better.

My mom, who is 72 and has underline health conditions, has been practicing social distancing to prevent contracting COVID-19. Her primary social circle is her church, where she's been a member since 2001 and gives over $14K a year in tithes and offering. (I did her taxes, so I've verified this.) But during this pandemic, she attends church virtually; however, this morning, thoughts of loneliness and other culminating factors led her to be overwhelmed with sadness. Accordingly, she told me she was going to the church to do two things: pay her tithes & offering and ask her pastor to pray for her and he refused.

  2. So the pastor will pray for his friends and pray for his enemies.

But Lord help you if you mess with his money.

    No worse then a pimp.
“Christian BETTER HAVE MY MONEY or NO PRAYER FOR YOU!!!”

  3. This story is making me feel some kind of way.
What is this so-called pastor's name? Where is this so-called church? I hope LRL gets a hold of this story and blows it up!

This is not a Man of Gawd, this is a Man of the Devil. This sister has paid $14,000 in tithes and offerings and this so-called pastor would not pray for her because she stayed home to stay safe (she is in the vulnerable age category).

To add insult to injury, this pastor has 5 non-working adults in his household. They all are probably on the church payroll. Pastor Plus family 1 2 3 4 5

I hope M.J. Lee can convince his mother to find another shepherd, a TRUE man of God to sit under. She need to flee from this hireling who is perpetrating as a pastor.

  5. "Thoughts of lonilness caused her to become overcome with sadness"... All because people (,sick and healthy) are told to stay home admidst what many believe to be to instill fear. Not only this lady, but many are suffering emotionally.

  6. Sadly, experiences like this are not uncommon. When I did my parent's taxes, I found they had been providing their church with $30k/year. My mother spent 2 weeks in the hospital before she died, her Pastor never showed up to pray for her or sit with her not once in that time, until she died. As well as any of the parishioners, except 2. My mother was incredibly tireless to her church, member of the usher board, 15+ years of membership, constantly volunteer for nearly every event, function, everything. The Pastor had a house boat, multiple cars, children in and out of jail, divorced, a lavish house nicer than ours. Who paid for that??? And a dying congregant couldn't have a hour of your time?? It boils my blood to this day. I'll never forget it.

    1. @Anonymous,

First of all, sorry for your loss. May the Good LORD comfort you and the family.

I too, I’m a witness to why I left the church. My father had a terminal illness and I sought the help of the church. During that period it was the senior pastor and his wife were celebrating their wedding anniversary and so all the hype was around them. The church paid for their Mediterranean cruise for 2 weeks. No one paid me any mind not even my prayer group members even when I told them of the struggle of trying to get the best care. There were no visits either!

I sought the LORD, and now I know who my SHEPHERD is! I will definitely NEVER want!

    2. @Shepherd, sorry for your loss and the experience you had with this church.

I have a feeling there are a multitude of people who have had similar experiences when the church (which is the leaders and members of the congregation) let them down/did not support or comfort them. If you are not viewed as a "somebody" in most churches, you can forget it.

It's sad that faithful members who financially support the church are treated like step children. (Unfaithful members don't usually get the same level of support, sad, but true).

I think part of the problem is the church is all about the Passa, his or her family and the people in leadership/the spotlight. They view the people in the pews as being their for THEM when actually, it's the other way around; they are their for US and they should be servant leaders, not stars. W

You got it right: the LORD is our SHEPHERD...

    3. You're pastor BUT don't understand we tithe under grace not compulsion. Much less you decide not to pray for her. Only a wolf in sheeps clothing could be that evil.

    5. Horrible and tragic!!!! I think Covid19 will teach a lot of people several things.
      1. The Church is bigger than a building
      2. There are more ways to live in community and more ways to gather than showing up at the building.
      3. Pastors may discover that members have discovered the priesthood of believers.
      4. The church in the west must change or people will realize that they don't need that kind of "church".
This is a great tipping point for pulpit shucksters and crooks. The walls are really going to come tumbling down.

  7. My God! $30,000 a year!? Wow! Your mother had a hireling too! Sorry your Mom is not here with you.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!! Don't support these so-called pastors who are nothing more than hirelings, pimping pastors, shysters and profiteers who don't even have time to come see about the sheep. They obviously do not know the definition of the word SHEPHERD. Don't get me started.

  8. This is only one side of the story. As a 72 year old woman, she should know how to reach God through prayer on her own.

    1. Well, in her defense, she's far from being the only one who thinks this way. There are many who believe that a Pastor, Priest, Prophet, etc has a greater access to God than they do,

    2. Well.. They believe WRONG! NO excuses.

The Bible has been around for centuries. She has lived 72 years. Tons of enough times she could have read it. Even YOU I suggest you read it more. There are many recommended schedules out there where you can read through the Bible in one year. Try it. Then you would not appear to be so illiterate.

    3. Cut it, "Anonymous." I know you get thrills whenever there is a response to you but why don't you just address the issue at hand? Explain why people go to AND pay these Prophets for their whatevers. Explain why do Catholics go to confession seeking absolution. You're condemning this woman because she looks to her Pastor for prayer and believes he holds some greater power than what she can do herself. My point is that she's not the only one who thinks like this. Many people do. Probably many people in your own place of worship do too. And please, refrain from counseling me about the Bible especially after the many gross misinterpretations of it that you have spewed here.

    4. Again...God tore down the wall of partition where EACH and ALL can can come before Him BOLDLY! Your mention of the Catholics here is way off base.

    5. See...This is what I mean. I just saw a video of this 72 year old lady, standing in front of her house, dancing like she is at some club, jitterbugging to some secular song in the background with flowers in her hand, while cars pass by honking in her support I guess. 72 years old!

That's why I stress MATURITY, the years God gives ALL of us to know Him and His ways. I'm not judging or trying to condemn anyone cause Lord knows I pray everyday the LORD will search me to give me HIS mercy. But in my humble opinion, this lady should be wise in her age not to come out in public the way she did. We who call ourselves Christians must understand how we are to suffer for His sake, bless those who curse us, love even our enemies, His will not ours, decrease so that we can decrease, not seek vengeance, and not be ashamed of the calling He gives us of which I too am so often GUILTY!

  9. I just checked their Facebook page and the clips shows a nearly full congregation with no social distancing plus singing in church. This woman was doing the right thing by sheltering in place. They are declaring they are covered, even though we are to use common sense. Pastor Riley's behavior speaks for itself.

    1. This is a supposed world wide pandemic. They didnt do the social distancing in Sweden nor did they shut down their economy, and the peoplw there faired fine.

Yet here, we got our farmers having to throw away their produce (ie. A potato farmer is now stuck with a billion pounds of potatoes), unemployment rates have skyrocketed all time high, people losing medical insurance and on and on and on...

  10. This is why I don't mess with these "off-brand" churches. If I'm not sure that a pastor has had theological training and moral and ethical vetting prior to ordination and continued oversight afterwards -- I'm not interested.

  11. I believe the tithe is unto the Lord. It doesn't buy me access or favour with anyone. I simply give because I love God. What they do with it once it's given will be up to them. They will give an account to God for messing over His people.
