Should We Still Dress Our Best For Church?

Reader, good Sunday morning to you, recently there has been a lot of online conversation about what is considered proper church attire and appearance. Some say, we should be set apart, and then some say, don't focus on attire. I'm beginning to see an increase in more contemporary worship settings, were younger church leaders, and younger congregations gather. It's always good for the youth to be involved in the church, but we should by no means seek to look like the world in anything that we do. We ought to dress modestly. And our attires should never cause another to stumble.
What are your thoughts? Should we stay w/ traditional church attire or do we have more liberty to reflect our own personal style, including tattoos, piercings, hair color, jeans, etc?

  1. The DEMOCRAT- "Come as you are".

THE REPUBLICAN- "You should dress your best".

THE INDEPENDENT- "Doesnt matter, I don't go to church. The church is the peopke, not the building"

    THE BIBLE- ??????.

I wonder how many Bible verses will come out of the discussion here,

  2. Personally, other than keeping your wardrobe modest, I don't believe there is a right or wrong answer to this.

We should all be more focused on the inner man, than with what people are wearing.

I have known people that have tattoos and wear shorts to church but they know the word and their life reflects it. That doesn't make him more (or less) honorable then someone wearing a 3 piece suit.

Church SHOULD BE a place of comfort. If someone isn't comfortable wearing a skirt and heels, or a button down suit. We as the body shouldn't hold it against them for what is basically a fashion choice.

And if you have ever been to church in the southwest part of the country in the summer, or any where close to the equator. You know that wearing a suit jacket and tie is ludicrous. COME AS YOU ARE.

  3. Miss Ann,

Women need to have modest apparel as their adornment (1 Timothy 2:29) and men are discouraged to wear that which pertains to women (Deuteronomy 22:5).

Unfortunately we live in a time when the above scripture doesn't hold in terms of fashion trends and what is in style.

As believers we should have understanding of God's WORD.

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (Romans 12:2).

    1. Amen Shepherd. The Word of the Lord has spoken.

    2. I think it is the individual personal choice as to what to wear to church. If you don't like what someone wear to church uou will get over it. Most jobs has a business casual dress code so not sure why the same is not applied to church. You should be focused on worshipping the Lord not trying to play fashion police.

    3. Amen William. If they want to come in a bathing suit, its their choice.

    4. It would be strange but I don't care what anyone wears to church

    5. If someone came to church in a bathing suit and NO ONE took the person aside, meaning the deacons or elders. Then that would be my last day of being a member. That person would be a distractions to the other members!!

      1 Corinthians 8:9
But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak!!

    6. Another good Bible verse Anonmous "NO ONE".

The WORD OF the LORD has spoken.

      I TIMOTHY 2:29
      DEUTERONOMY 22:5
      ROMANS 12:2

    7. Ok that's fine with me do you but what someone wears to church is unimportant to me

      @Anonymous, what garment(s) "pertain to a man"?
In your opinion, does this mean pants, ball caps, hat, coats--what garments?

    9. Any garment a woman wears to deceive herself and others she is a man.
Any garment a man wears to deceive himself and others he is a woman.
