Chicago Church Kicks Out Member After Same-sex Wedding, A Protest Is Schedule For Sunday!

Reader good Saturday morning to everyone I'm praying that everyone reading this post has a wonderful day, in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A Chicago woman was kicked out of her church and then spoken about from the pulpit in a not so good of a way after marrying her partner.

I'm fully aware of the church covenant and all its by laws. perhaps removing a person from their church duties if they were a pastor evangelist choir member etc. But to put them out the church all together is something totally different.

Friends of a long-time parishioner of Apostolic Church of God will be picketing outside the South Side, Chicago ministry from 8 am-noon Sunday, July 30, to protest her removal. The woman, who prefers to remain anonymous, married her partner, a woman, which resulted in her being kicked out of Apostolic Church of God, 6320 S. Dorchester. Chic Chic Social Club is sponsoring the protest.

The woman's grandmother and mother also belonged to the church, which is affiliated with the Pentecostal movement, and her friends say she is devastated by this situation. Her daughter attacked the church on Facebook, including its pastor, Dr. Byron T. Brazier.

Brazier then used a sermon to lash back. Following is an excerpt from his remarks:

"[People] have asked me, if all have sinned, and gay marriage is the law of the land, then why does the church, and in particular Apostolic Church of God, find this objectionable? And If there are homosexuals in the church, then it appears to be hypocritical not to accept gay marriage. I am sure that people who ask the question are asking for a true understanding. I am sure there may be those who are homosexuals that are part of the family of the Apostolic Church of God. I am sure of that. But there are also liars, fornicators, back-biters and all other types of humanity. Because if there were no sin there'd be no reason to be a church. (applause) And if there was no forgiveness, why would there be grace?

"So it's not that everybody's perfect, we're all imperfect. But what we must realize is that we can not institutionalize that which the lord has already condemned. (applause) And we can not make exceptions. It is the word of the lord, that is the critical point, and no man, no man, has the capability, or the right, to add to, or take away, from the word of god. (long applause) To that end, a prominent member of this church married a woman of the same sex. Her grandmother was a member here. Her mother was a member here. She was a member here along with her family. Her marriage was posted on Facebook, and I was informed by several members of the congregation concerning this matter. I spoke to her earlier, late last week, and explained the church's position on gay marriage. Which she knew. She understood, and she accepted that could no longer be a member of the Apostolic Church of God.

"However, her daughter took exception, and began to place derogatory comments on Facebook and other social media concerning the Apostolic Church of God, evangelist [Ivory] Nuckolls, myself, and my father Bishop [Arthur Brazier]… extremely negative, that really has provided me great anguish."

Friends of the woman called out the pastor for publicly going after her, saying his intention was to humiliate her. That was "way beyond the calling of a pastor to do such a thing among the congregation!" one woman wrote on Facebook. "I thought the church was the place to be delivered of sin, why did the pastor contradict himself in the video?"

Chic Chic's event page stated:

"We raise our voices, and invite you to join in a community protest organized in support of love and justice! A peaceful protest is being held in opposition to the hate inspired doctrine and public shaming by Apostolic Church of God, against its LGBTQ congregational members. A community of black LGBTQ community members and our allies will gather to serve as protest against religious bigotry and in protection of ideals which embrace the diversity of the black family. We hope our presence will serve as a public witness and inspire houses of worship to treat all of its congregates with dignity, love, equity, and compassion. We stand on the side of Love!"

The church's website says it has more than 20,000 members. On the church's website, Pastor Brazier states the church's path is "not a road of restrictive religion or a path of personal ambition, but it's the freedom to follow the way of Jesus Christ unapologetically as we take God at His Word and serve as a beacon of light to the whole world."

In 2011, newly elected Mayor Rahm Emanuel appointed Pastor Brazier to his transition team, a move that upset some LGBT activists.

At the time, Rev. Irene Monroe, coordinator of the African American Roundtable of the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry at the Pacific School of Religion, said Emanuel's selection of Brazier while not including any LGBT co-chairs was an intentional, and troubling, choice. "It is a great concern," Monroe said. "Why that particular church when there are so many progressive churches he can choose from?"

  1. The church did well. If they don't like the practices and doctrine of the church, they can find another more suitable place to worship. As for me and my house...

    1. The pastor was wrong in this case. Apostolic Church of God was anything but Godly last Sunday, I haven't been to church in about 5 yrs and if I was weak minded I wouldn't return. I know my God doesn't "love" the way that he had suggested. This was absolutely a ungodly experience. Dr. Byron T. Brazier openly discussed how all sin is sin BUT specifically said homosexuality wasn't welcome there to hear the word of God in this church. He openly discussed another member's personal lifestyle choices and how her family had been members for generations but said that because of her sexual orientation and because other members of the congregation brought this matter to him he felt the need to reach out to her telling her how the church is against her lifestyle. That is COMPLETELY against what God is about and to be teaching this message to hungry minds is disgusting and shameful. How dare you pass judgment on this women and the other members of the congregation who may also live a life you're against. You sir, were not a reflection of God's love.

    2. Then maybe she should do the godly thing and LEAVE. Christ came and is own received Him not. He therefore went to minister to the Samaritans and even some Gentiles. The LORD says vengeance is mine. She should seek another who would welcome her and her lesbo partner. She should bless them who persecute her. The LORD will make your enemy your footstool. She needs to be a peacemaker and have her family take several seats.

    3. One of his Ministers who is a Care giver refused to go into a sick lady house because her daughter was GAY!!! She stated that her Bishop would sit her down if he knew she was around GAY people. The daughter had nothing to do with the Care needed for her Mom so I am not surprised at this News at all!!! I never heard his Dad talk about anyone's sexuality but he did what his CHURCH MONEY TOLD HIM TO DO and THE MONEY RULES!!!

    4. Don't think it was appropriate to address over the pulpit but to stand and back up the scripture is a must. Just like parenting kids. All because you did something that wasn't right in life do you say "yea Baby go ahead and do it because I did". No we all sin and come short but we also have those in place that help remind us of the scripture. I have no beefs with gays at all but I do know scripture. Judgment day is coming. Will we be ready?

    1. Why have her sat down for marrying who she is in love with and if he did sit her down why when most churches and pastors have multiple women they are sleeping with no sin is greater if u going to sit her down then if a man or women of God in leadership ever cheated on their spouses sit them down, if they had babies out of wedlock sit them down, if they are open engaged in any sexual relationship with anyone sit them down. I sorry every one have sex and it don't matter who you sleeping with it's a sin man women boy or girl. At least she married her mate hell many single preacher, deacons and leaders not married and having sex sin. HOMOSEXUALITY is no different because all it is, is two same sex people having sex in the church mind.

  4. "Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Matthew 18:15-18

  5. If pastors are going to start kicking out sinners then churches would be empty. You can't be against one sin but allow the rest of the members who sin to remain members of your church that is called hypocrisy.

    1. The church discipline passages in Matthew 18 and that in I Corinthians 5 suggests strongly EXPULSION. I'm quite sure there were many sinners in the church at CORINTH, as well as the one suggested in Matthews. As a matter of fact, the instruction to the Church at Corinth came from Paul, who referred to himself as the "chief sinner", and described in his flesh he found himself doing the things he should not do, and not doing the things he should do.

That said if this situation involves true Christians, and the Pastor followed the procedures in Matthew, and this woman refuse to repent, she should be given over to Satan. For her family to protest show their spiritual state. This lesbo woman is reprobate to think she could bring her filth to the holies of holies. And her daughter is full of EVIL. The Scriptures is so profound when it says "If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26
The LORD knows the intricate value of every word of TRUTH He speaks, to address all the sinful evil excuse and reason man and woman would use.

As well when he called homosexuality an abomination, these evil Sodomites, their lust to burn in the flesh, and their wickedness of thought even so to protest they deserve favor despite their sinful lifestyle, all along destroying even their own bodies and souls. THIS IS WHY HE CALL this SIN AN ABOMINATION! THEY reject GOD to serve their own FLESH!

And for any who desire to STAY stuck in YOU STUPOR, to deem unfairness against the SAME SEX Abomination to whine like a child saying there are other sins listed as abomination -

"These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness [that] speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."

YES these things are JUST THAT - ABOMINATION. LYING tongue, tongues that speak opposite of the TRUTH. JESUS is the way, the TRUTH and the light. Any tongue that speaks against GOD to say HE does not exist, He is evil, Jesus is possessed by the devil IS A LIAR. A proud look denouncing the LORD as CREATOR, saying in your soul, I can SAVE my self, an so as I will - I don't need a Savior. And so forth the rest, the same spirit of ABOMINATION residing in these PERVERTS and SODOMITES who denounce GOD, to serve their own flesh of their REPOBATE Mind!

The devil can protest all he wants. THE LORD will have the FINAL PROTEST, and CAST THEM ALL in the FIRE!

    2. William I agree as for a pastor, putting somebody out of a church is not the answer when somebody is living in sin! Like, to say "you have to sit down from your areas you serve in" ok! Putting out? Saying she can no longer be a member? That's wrong and not of God! Especially when we all know our background isn't squeaky clean. Everybody has sinned! So why not put us all out! Church would be empty if that was the case!

      Delete
    3. Exactly if pastors are going to start kicking sinners out church then all the pews in America would be empty. You can't say kick the homosexuals out because they are sinners but all the other sinners are welcome.

    4. Tell that to PAUL who knew he was "chief sinner" and recommended a bunch of Saints (not perfect) to "GIVE him over to SATAN". YOU and your COGIC Brother only STATE YOUR opinion. YOUR opinions are just mere gibberish of YOUR sinful FLESH when compared to the INSPIRED WORD of GOD!

  6. I understand this churches position BUT kick them out. Don't believe that's the right response. Don't allow them to serve, minister, etc. BUT kicked out...bad for the Kingdom

  7. For those who are not led by the Word of God. The bible tells us to not keep company with a sinner who calls themselves a brother or sister in Christ.

Romans 1:26-32 26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

    28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

1 Corinthians 5:9-13 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:

10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.

11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?

13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.

    Ephesians 5:5 King James Bible
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God

    2 John 10-11
If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

    Ephesians 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

    Ephesians 5:6-7
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

    Ephesians 5:11
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

a person who indulges in unlawful sexual intercourse, a fornicator

I know YOU may think it is wrong to have them leave but the word of God is clear. It also says the following:
    Proverbs 14:12
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

  9. The worship experience at Apostolic is open to all. Our Board of Directors and the pastor have voted on how we relate to same sex marriage as a condition of MEMBERSHIP. No one is or has ever been excluded from worship because of their sexual orientation. That was not stated by our pastor, nor is it the intent of our Board. I have been a member since 1971 BTW.

  10. I am not getting the uproar about this. ACOG has certain doctrinal beliefs (we argue all day about whether they are right or wrong) - this lady knew what those beliefs were and chose to very publicly go against them and be unrepentant about it. It is definitely biblical for the church to discipline unrepentant sinners by terminating their membership - see 1st Corinthians 5. It is difficult and can cause hurt feelings - but the fact that other churches do not properly practice church discipline does not make ACOG wrong. She should have just transferred to a church that would accept her lifestyle (like Trinity) and gone about her business.

  11. Hello All,
I have been reading the comments on this story and i am trying to understand why people are saying that it is wrong for the church to require someone in unrepentant sin to be removed from the church. As I posted earlier it is quite clear that the bible states that if someone is in unrepentant sin that they should be removed from the gathering.

Many here would have said that Jesus was judging when he stated:

    Matthew 7:13-14
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Did you readers see that? Jesus said that there would be FEW that found the narrow way. This lie that God will allow sin is a perverting of God's holiness. If you want to know how God's love is manifested read the following verse

1 John 4:9 - In this was manifested (revealed) the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him

So as the scripture states God's love is revealed in that he sent Christ Jesus to the cross so that we would not DIE in our sins if we accepted Christ as our savior and obeyed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If you are continuing or practicing sin Hebrews 10:26 states - For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,.

I am not saying that Christians do not sin but what I am saying is that a true Holy Spirit filled Christian will not practice sin.

There is a reason John says in 1 John 8-10 - If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

A true Christian will not willfully nor practice sin. But if a so called Christians practices sin 1 John 3:8-9 He that committeth (continue sinning or practice) sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 John 3:6 5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

I say all of this to inform those of you who think that God would not have this woman removed from the gathering does not know the word of God. No matter if you call yourself a bishop, preacher or simply an attendee to say that God is ok with this sin and would allow this women to continue in the gathering is a gross error of God and his love. As I stated previously God sent his Son so that we would not live in sin and just because the majority of these so called churches (Most are not true churches anyway by biblical standards) allow sin and unrepentant sinner to pervade their services does not make it ok.

But I do agree with most of you when you say that homosexuality is no different then any other sin and why focus only on it when removing people from these so called church services. Be like Paul and remove everyone that is in unrepentant sin until they repent and go back to their first love.

Again people, the path is narrow and there are few that find it. That is what the bible says so understand theri is a multitude of people that will be lost and Like Jesus says in Matthew chapter 7 21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

    1. Bro IRA, PEOPLE are sayimg its wrong because they would rather be wise in their own eyes.

Isaiah 5:2 "1Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!"

Most of these folks here could care less what the bible says. They'd rather State their opinions and appear as loving and caring, having a form of godliness.

Like I said here earlier, their opinions are but gibberish and all who protest, the Lord dump them in the LAKE OF FIRE. THE LORD hates a lying tongue (man's opinion over HIS Very own WORDS HE REVEALED) and a proud look, many here display.

      God bless you BROTHER IRA...

  12. Dr. Brazier and Apostolic Church of God has every right to set the Biblical doctrine of their ministry and stand up for righteousness. Having said this, the situation got out of control with both the slander and the excommunication of the lesbian member. ACOG should have reached out to this young lady and walk her in the path to deliverance from her lifestyle. Most importantly, excommunication should not be done where there is no effort to reach the parties involved with their sin issues. The church should sue the woman for slander. I watched the videos from their Saving Grace Broadcasts for years and even Bishop Brazier himself called out the gay lifestyle in his messages. Dr. Brazier needs to be held up in prayer and supported by all under his leadership. A truly, sad situation for all parties involved.

It's obvious this lesbo does not. What about the times she does not obey those who have rule over her? Is that a sin as well? And the times she lies, and steal and cheat? If you feel the Pastor is wrong for kicking her out because of "one" sin, YOU PRAY for that PASTOR and his congregation! If you believe a lot of Christians have forgotten to ne "Christlike" YOU show your name to be worthy and PRAY for THEM! And if you feel like Christians here are negative PRAY FOR THEM as well.
