Once Again How to Live Under A Morally Unqualified President!

Image
Reader what a good timing for a re-post. Pastor John Piper posted this article on January 20, 2017 and got a lot of backlash....but it's even more comforting today. Let us continue to pray for love to reign in our country - the love of God and our neighbor, not the love of power, pride, money or anything else. They will know we are Christians by our love.

“Donald Trump treats language — the medium of truth — as a wax nose to be bent and molded to create a desired outcome, whether it corresponds to the truth or not.”

Saints What Do Yall Think About This Style Of Preaching?

Reader good Sunday morning to everyone, I 'm praying that everyone reading this blog has a wonderful and awesome day in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

I found the following question on social media and thought it would be great for discussion in this space (How to preach?) Let me preface my statement by stating how big a fan I am of the Cultural Black American Church; the history, the sound, some of the tradition... I mean let's face it. I'm just a fan. No movement should ever be solely defined by its excesses, so it's in error to hyper-generalize or slap a label on an entire demographic because of some of its more noted flaws.

Y'all  know that I had  mentioned in this space the other day about the young man who got caught up in the spirit in his own preaching and got carry away....got criticize for it.  The obvious answer to the posed question is the Bible.

There are many different styles of preaching. (1) Information - Some pastors are big on giving their people a ton of information. (2) Inspiration - Some pastors focus on motivating their people to participate in the preaching experience. (3) Demonstration - these pastors are highly visual and they like to demonstrate to their people the truth being taught. (4) Application - these pastors are bottom line preachers. They want their people to take what they have seen and heard and apply it to their lives. Bottom line: A seasoned preacher will probably incorporate a little of each but he or she will still have a dominant style. With that being said what do you all think about this young lady Lady Donishisa Ballard style of preaching which is through song?

  1. No Bible,
    No notes,
    No examination of scripture

Just a glorified gospel concert performance?!?!

Welcome to "CHURCH" the musical. 🙄

    1. Musical indeed @ Cop!

And a fine example of why Paul tells Timothy that a woman shouldn't teach but be in silence (1 Timothy 2:12).

Our LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, commissioned the disciples thus: "Go ye therefore and teach all nations... teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:" (Matthew 28:19-20).

The keyword here is "teach". And Miss Ballard is definitely NOT teaching!

What we have here is a congregation that is not in position to receive the WORD of God with all readiness of mind and therefore cannot search the scriptures daily, whether those things that Miss Ballard speaks/sings of are so (Acts 17:11).

Question is, who will teach this young lady to be sober? (Titus 2:4-5) [that is if she is teachable].

  2. Hi folks, I know some of ya'll been wondering about me.. haha. I'm here. Just busy busy. And also sitting back just checking out comments and smh at the sametime. Anyway, on this topic, smh. I went through utube and checked out this woman's ministry and yep it's consistently like this. As an keyboardist/organist, this is nothing but a workout. Yes, I've experienced having to have to play for the moment when church members run around the church if you will having a good time in the spirit, Yes I know, most folks acting and clowning around but for those who are unfamiliar this is what happens sometimes. My record is 1hr 15min playing straight without stopping on the keys. Yea, I know. smh. Those days are long gone. HOWEVER, I've never experienced this here. Where the choir is singer pedal to the metal and this lady is screaming at the top of here lungs. Are you kidding me? No one can truly focus on the words that's coming forth. Yea, I've done many times what you call, "preacher chords" to where some ministers get in that groove and they are in a certain key, say C#. BUT, this is towards the end of the sermon AND it's not down ALL THE TIME by my pastor. When he does it, HE IS SAYING SOMETHING but there won't be a choir doing this gym workout. Not only is this a workout but emotional hype. This Sunday after Sunday would drive me insane, the hollering and screaming..Are you kidding me?! Cop and the Lord is my Shepard; I agree with you both. This is ridiculous.

  3. In my role as Dean of Ministerial Training for my church conference, I'm responsible for ensuring that all the clergy who come through our ordination process in the AME Church are good, qualified and trained preachers. I love good hooping and shouting every now and then but unfortunately what this young lady has done is quite detrimental to that audience because it's more likely they will only recall the excitement of the presentation and not the message presented. As one poster stated, it comes across as an enhanced and extended choir concert.

  4. What it is called shooting rabbits or jumping rabbits. Saying or quoting popular scriptures to get a rise of emotions and enthusiasm. That's all point and simple. I have seen preachers get up and try to preach the last song the choir or praise team song. Sad day for a supposed preacher. A Lay member may get away with that, but not a season preacher.

  6. WOULD SOMEONE BAKER ACT HER. SHE'S TRULY PSYCHOTIC. THAT'S NOT PREACHING THAT'S MUSICAL COMIC VIEW BLASPHEMY IN THE HOUSE OF GOD. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON HER SOUL FOR MAKING A MOCKERY OUT OF GOD IN THE HOUSE OF GOD. SOMEBODY ANYBODY PLEASE SIT HER AND THE FLAMING SISSIE CHOIR DIRECTOR DOWN. SUCH THINGS SHOULDN'T BE GOING ON IN THE HOUSE OF GOD.

  7. This is nothing but emotional word play. Unfortunately this is what many pass off as good preaching. And she could get away with it because she's a female. Take away the choir and keys and you'll understand there wasn't anything close to preaching being done.

  8. AS A FEMALE AND A EVANGELIST SHE MAKES IT BAD FOR WOMEN IN THE MINISTRY. SHE'S AN INSULT, DISGRACE TO WOMEN IN GENERAL. SHE JUST NEEDS TO TAKE A SEAT. AND ASK GOD FOR GUIDANCE IN HER LIFE. WHERE ARE THE CHURCH MOTHERS AND THE VIRTUOUS WOMEN OF GOD. WHO TOLD HER THIS WAS OK TO DO THIS FOOLISHNESS IN THE HOUSE OF GOD. WHO'S HER COVERING ?

    1. That's what I thought she was doing, The name of the song is "Stretch Out". If you listen to the choir, you will hear them saying those words. This video is not from the beginning of the song. When someone leads a song, they may sing a couple of verses and then go into ad libbing, which is quoting verses from the bible, bible stories, expounding what the song is saying, a testimony, etc. If you notice, you didn't see the end of the song either. Be careful of your source and what you see on the internet. We all know the power of the internet. Lives have been ruined and destroyed beyond repair because of rumor and lies, thanks to the internet. The internet has a way pulling you into stinking thinking. The only thing she may have done, was singing the song too long.

  10. I'm shocked you guys are surprised by this. Our church puts up with it all the time . Try that in an assembly of God or foursquare church. They would sit you down.

  11. I listened to the clip and she was singing a song. However, I could not understand what she was saying because she was screaming the lyrics rather than actually singing the song. It is important we have clarity in preaching and singing, otherwise the message is lost due to screaming and not articulating the words and power of that song.
