The Bible Can Be Used To Justify Anything We Want It To Justify: Texas Republican Uses The Bible To Justify Cuts To SNAP Benefits, The Unemployed “Shall Not Eat”.

Reader the Republicans love the Bible—or at least, some of it. One verse they particularly love is 2nd Thessalonians 3:10, which says:

For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

They use this verse to justify calling unemployed Americans freeloaders who are abusing the system because they don’t want to get a job. Ain't most snap beneficiaries are children who can't work? This man is either a supreme idiot who doesn't know what he is talking about, or he is the devil quoting scripture to commit heinous acts of depravity.  Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-TX) is at least the third Republican to use the biblical passage Thessalonians 3-10 as a reason to cut access to food stamps.

  2. Miss Ann,

I suppose the republican skipped some scripture to assume that 2 Thessalonians 3:10 applies to all.

There are the unfortunate in society who can't get a job for some reason or other. There are those who are in between jobs and need a helping hand. There are also those who have jobs but the paycheck can't cover the basics for the entire family. The poor will always be with us. And if we can feed one of the many who are hungry, regardless of their unique situation, we have done it unto our LORD Jesus. And if we ignore and refuse to feed one of the many who are hungry...

"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." (Matthew 25:40)

  3. This is flawed logic based on biblical misinterpretation. In North Carolina, recipients must work 30 hours/weekly to draw SNAP benefits. So, it makes no sense to cut those benefits.

  4. THE BIBLE STATES THAT THE POOR WILL BE WITH US ALWAYS.THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT REASONS WHY RECIPIENTS RECEIVES FOOD STAMPS.ABD MAJORITY OF THOSE FOLKS WORK,THEY ARE TWO PARENTS HOUSEHOLDS.THEY PAY THERE BILLS ON TIME AND NEED THE FOOD STAMPS TO SUPPLEMENT THEM TO MAKE SURE THEY DON'T BE HUNGRY.IT IS MORE CAUCASIANS, ASIANS ,LATIOS AND HISPANICS AND ARABS ON HOUSING ASSISTANCE, FOOD STAMPS, FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE THAN AFRICAN AMERICANS.
