Can One Be A Christian And Not Believe In The Virgin Birth Of Christ Our Lord?

Reader so many of what Christians argue and contend for are just topics and doctrines that we can disagree on. Things like Merry Christmas, politics, worship music, preaching style, Sunday vs. Saturday, even baptism (sprinkling vs. dunking.) But there are a set of doctrines that distinctly Christian. They are firm, rock solid, closed handed, will die on this hill type of beliefs. One of those beliefs is the Virgin birth of Christ our Lord.

Andy Stanley says that it is "interesting" that only half the gospels mention the Virgin Birth. Andy Stanley the pastor of one of America's largest megachurches stirred up Christmas controversy after preaching that the story of Jesus' virgin birth is not crucial to the Christian faith. It is so sad at the way Truth has been compromised by many preachers in an effort to come across as intellectual, profound, appealing, hip or a number of other reasons.   I don't care how big your church is, your popularity, your style, how many books you sell or how many TV stations air your program. It is TRUTH that sets people free - no matter how inconvenient or unpopular.

  1. No one can be saved with out believing in the virgin birth. The fact the Jesus finished his course the way He did is what's important but the way he was born was important too. It solidifies Him being apart of the Godhead. God sent His Spirit to become the Word manifested in the flesh. Denouncing the miracle birth shows a spirit of antichrist.

    1. I see what he is saying- Christians place their faith on identifying with the death and resurrection on Jesus- Baptism and salvation deals with the symbolism of Jesus's burial/death/resurrection or being "born again". I disagree in that I believe every word of scripture is significant or it wouldn't be there. But, I think I understand that he is saying that this is a part of scripture where there may be different interpretations.. its not a game changer... just like there are several ways that Christians interpret Revelations and the End times.

  2. He is 100% WRONG. The virgin birth matters or it would have been omitted completely from scripture. Two pillars critical for the sacrifice on the cross are His divinity and his purity. Diminishing the birth opens up doors for the sacrifice to be imperfect.

  3. Ms Ann I don't know if he's wrong, per say. We are all saved because of our belief and spiritual participation in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. BUT how could he have been crucified, buried and resurrected without being born? One has to be careful when making this type of statement because it insinuates that the scriptures account of His birth could be flawed or incorrect. Many dispute the notion that a virgin gave birth to a Son, etc. But again, it is true that none of of us were saved because of or by His birth but He had to be born.

  4. You must BELIEVE that JESUS was born in order to be SAVED. He had to be born by a VIRGIN TO BE PURE AND HOLY. Without A Spot Or Blemishes. Jesus Christ was GOD in the Flesh on Earth. He sent him to Earth to Save mankind from there sins. Living HE loved us. Dieing he carried out sins far away. Rising HE justified free us from sin. You must believe that JESUS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT EVER WAS BORN FROM A VIRGIN. And HE had to be born. If HE hasn't been born we wouldn't have no one to have as a Divine Mediator to Mediate between us and GOD.

  5. I maybe going out on a limb but,

If you don't believe in the virgin birth, you are NOT A CHRISTIAN. (Just my opinion)

And if you don't believe in the virgin birth, than EVERYTHING in the Bible is suspect and you can't trust any of it, and we are all doomed.

Merry Christmas EVERYONE, and thank God for our savior.

  6. My question is...

if you don't believe in the virgin birth, what is it that you do believe about HIS birth? Nevermind if one is saved or not saved, but the Bible clearly says MARY WAS A VIRGIN!!! What other idea or thought according to the Bible is an alternative?

I mean...to bring up one's salvation is way too much of a stretch, about a simple Christian doctrine, the miracle the Spirit of God overshadowed a young woman (VIRGIN), causing her to bear a Son.

This story in Luke is revelation to us as God performed this supernatural act. We must KNOW, GOD IS SUPERNATURAL, and HE IS NOT BOUND BY ANY of the LAWS OF nature!!!

    GETC OUTTA HERE!!!

  7. Miss Ann,

"But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed." Galatians 1:8

The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall NOT want...
