Lord Have Mercy Friendship-West Baptist Church Have Been Accused Of Broadcasting The Cowboy's Game During Service!

Reader social media is in an uproar this morning with the news that Dr. Freddy Haynes church in Dallas TX,  was literally showing the Cowboys game during services yesterday.  The Cowboys entered Week 11 with the best record in the NFL, and understandably, football fans in Dallas are excited. Football is practically a religion to some in Texas,  according to someone's tweet, (and an "FW" logo on the wall), Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, had what they considered a fantastic idea to keep the football-loving churchgoers happy, by showing the Cowboys game during services. Anyhow the church has now issued a good reason for the game to on during service:

"Good morning world. It has been brought to our attention that we have received a bunch of negative publicity due to us trying out of the box ministry and meeting people where they are. Yes we showed the Dallas-Cowboys game as a part of our West Wall Street Day where AFTER worship we empowered approximately 40 small black owned businesses. The person who took that video and decided attempt to condemn us to hell did not tell you the entire story. Service was over with and we were transitioning to our after worship event and we decided to put the game on the screen. We did not put the game on the screen to replace anything during our worship service. We take worship very seriously and would not do anything to jeopardize someone's interaction with God. So for all of you sending us to hell and who say this was wrong even though you WEREN'T there, God bless you!! Sadly, you've taken something out of context for your pretext and got conned. Maybe the person who started this untruth wasn't a Dallas Cowboys fan and wanted to start a little controversy. Journalism 101- Ethics... tell the entire story so people can make their own judgments versus the narrative you want them to believe. God Bless you all and we pray that you have a blessed and empowered week. Go Cowboys!"

  1. Miss Ann,

Church services/worship are now certified entertainment by any means necessary. This is part of the great falling away (2 Thessalonians 2).

    1. It's never good for the church when the church have to go on the defense.

    2. Definitely Miss Ann!

They should preach the gospel in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4) regardless whether it is football season or not. And they shouldn't be seen to conform to the world (Romans 12).

    3. I think it is a great idea noting wrong with fellowship at the Church house I think more house of worship should do the same!!! I love FWBC and Pastor Haynes!

1 John 2:15-16 "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and pride of this life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."

  2. 45 minutes of worship. 3 HOURS of watching a football game where 95% of the football players couldn't care less about God. Any questions?

Judgement day: "Lord, Lord but didn't we empower 40 black owned businesses in your name?" I shudder to hear HIS response.

  3. Service at The West is NEVER 45 minutes. Did you even investigate before making your comments? No, of course not! Because being righteously inflamed is more fun. Sweetie, the game was put in AFTER the 2nd service ended. Now...run and tell
    That!

    1. Uh oh. One of the members at this particular church showed up here. So was it more than 1 hour of worship?

If the FIRST service started at 8:00 then the worship service would end around 9:15. That means 15 minutes for the offering. Then at 9:30, pastor would preach for one hour. Do the math. The game STILL lasted longer than the service!

What about all those beer commercials the world shows during football games? Did the pastor put the volume on "mute" when the commercials came on?

When the halftime show came on, did everybody sing along with the celebrity? Did the pastor turn off the screen when the cheerleaders were dancing?

You run and explain to Jesus all That!

    2. And if the SECOND service started at 10:45, that mean that all service HAD to be over at 1:45. You know... because people would be HUNGRY. So Pastor Freddy provided hot wings, French fries and drinks FREE of charge? If he didn't cater the food, then the members had to rush out and grab something to eat.

Think about it. They had to rush out and get food...to get back in time for the game. That mean that pastor had to rush through his sermon.

  4. Maybe put the game on in the fellowship hall or the lobby (If it was THAT serious, which it is NOT), but the SANCTUARY?!?! I'm sorry. No reverence... No sense of holiness...

  5. I think all of you are entitled to your opinion but you are seriously being mislead by Ms. Ann Brock. First off, the statement she claims was from FWBC is totally false and something she wrote herself. We have professional personnel at our church who have already put out in official statement. But Ms. Brock chose to instead push her own agenda by creating this statement and then using our west Wall Street logo. (Shame on you young lady). Second, the second and final service starts at 10:45. We normally do not get out of church until 12:30 or 12:45 when Pastor Haynes is preaching. However, we have a guest preacher (Ratliffe) and we love it when he preaches because he doesn't stay long. The most saddening thing about Ms. Brock and the other negative commenters on this post who evidently don't know the real story is that you all are missing the most important point. There is fellowship in church. May not be on yours but certainly is in ours and giving 40 small businesses the opportunity to display and increase their business through our congregation is a beautiful thing. Who is helping to push you business upwards? So, with church ending early to accommodate and empower businesses to thrive shouldn't be overlooked because of a football game. If you were at church and you are a cowboy fan, would you entertain those businesses or would you have gone home to watch the game? But if the game was on at church, would you be inclined to hang around a little longer where you can browse for products, keep up with the game and continue to fellowship with your church members? I'm not sure how your church works but please don't place judgement on another congregation because it doesn't do what you think is right. It's a football game. Look at the bigger picture. 40 businesses were able to potentially increase their revenue and customer base because of FWBC. Because we are all about social justice and social change. If we won't help each other, who will. And if you happen to be a minority that isn't upper class and spoon fed and you've commented negatively about this predicament, then shame on you. While I can't condone the majority for their "perspective," I can empathize with them speaking on something they know nothing about.

    2. I retract my statement to Ms. Ann about the post as I see it was written from our fb page with the EXCEPTION ABOUT THE LOGO AND THE WRITING SS THAT WASNT LISTED. In any case it doesn't discount my point about those who overlook the positive to cast a negative standing about a church, no less, when it's all about empowering black business not about showing the football game in a church which might I add is also a Conference center when church isn't being held. So too protected has no standing on his/her point at all

    3. Ms. Ann rLittle976 has a real comprehension problem. If they would've looked and read the post then they would have seen that you wasn't attacking the church, that you were only reporting on what had happened. The statement is from the church facebook page.

    4. Questions - Why title the post "...Church has been accused of broadcasting the football game during their services", then follow that up with an official statement saying the game was shown AFTER SERVICES were over?

I could care less about the 40 businesses, as moreso the messages or sermon preached to help God's people.

But who and why would anyone say it was broadcast during the services when in actuality it wasn't?

    5. @ rlittle976,

Just asking... what was the sermon that day?

The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall NOT want...

    6. Anonymous the reason I titled the post in that manner is because the church at that time was being accused of showing a football game during the morning service.
