Why Folks Trying To Paint Emanuel AME Church As Being Greedy???

Reader, how do you feel about this? Folks on social media are upset with Emanuel AME Church in Charleston,SC where 9 church members including the pastor were killed during a prayer meeting in June 2015. The church has received $3.3M in private donations following the tragedy. The church gave the victims' families $1.5M and kept $1.8M for itself. Some family members of the 9 victims are upset the church kept more of the money for itself than it gave to them.

According to word on the street, there were several funds established after the tragedy, last year.  The City of Charleston administered a fund that paid all the burial expenses and then distributed $2.5 M.

In reality, the funds this article mentioned was specifically designated to help the church and carry on its mission.  Under its terms, the church could have kept all the money, but they decided to add to the other funds received by the families. In my opinion, the article should have clarified that $280,000 went, to the victims fund, but the church added more than $1 million dollars more. I guess that the writer of the article wants people to hate the church's image. For anyone to say the church held back more money intended for the victims' families for itself, is deceptive if not dishonest.

It's reported that Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church kept about $1.8 million of donations to fund things for the church.

  1. At least the church was very transparent. Money does not bring out the best in everyone. Even when grieving or the season has passed. Money
