Question?

Readers, is there a double standard for women in ministry who face scandals versus men who faced scandals? Thoughts?

    1. As it relates to Bishop Bynum, I don't believe it's the double standard involved here...its her....its her hooping and hollering all over the place but not living it behind closed doors....it's her character, integrity, not keeping her word/commitments and yes the mockery she helped made of her wedding and marriage, the process to it as well. Man's titles given mean nothing to God. He's looking at our hearts and deeds and words. I'm not impressed by titles, are you helping the communities, the people? It's not about fame, fortune and limelight if God is not glorified 1st.

  2. Women are the weaker vessel. They are to be treated with care and allowed to be forgiven, as The Lord says "not 7 times, but 70x7". Women are nurturer and life bearers, called in the most sacred role to be the "mother of all mankind". Juanita was abused. She is the Christian Women Spoke Person for domestic violence, this long before the NFL and the other great sports adopted any of their abuse polices. I mean... this lady is so anointed, way so more than Blake and Eddie Long and any of these dudes who call themselves "passahs". The purity Juanita portrays, and the power this bishopric posesses. She is a breakthrough and a pioneer for all women in these contemporary times of the LORD. She has impacted women in a great way through her ministry, those of the likes of Paula White, Kim Burell, and other women who have fallen into God's favor through her messages like "No More Sheets". No double standards. Her testimony and the fruit of her labor says it all...(LOL)...

    1. Anonymous there is ALWAYS a double standard for strong women in secular and church realms. ALL people fail; myself included. Does that mean God will not have anything to do with me? Of course not. Men in ministry have a greater covering in times of error and women of God will often lose their covering (i.e.husband, children, ministry, female friends, prominence). But they never lose the covering of God. Ever.

  3. Yes, there is a double standard! The church isn't all that welcoming to female ministers to begin with, so it's no surprise that they aren't too forgiving when they fall. Truth be told, the church is grounded in sexism and perpetuates it on so many different levels. But what I find to be most ironic is the fact that the majority of loyal church members are usually females...go figure.

  5. The double standard is how we judge church leaders and everybody else.

If Bynum wasn't famous, and worked at Wal-mart
    Things would be vastly different.

She would be in counseling after several failed marriages and MARRYING HERSELF,

She would have lost her job for lying on her resume. She doesn't have a doctorate.

She would find it hard to get another job because of her police record.

she would have to EARN any title put before her name, not just given to her because she can excite a crowd of people.

And people and peers around her might actually tell her to slow down and get her life together instead of being tossed to and fro at every moment.

    So just let the
Doctor, Ambassador, Prophetess, Face of domestic violence, and soon to be Bishop collet her titles

while REAL MINISTERS of the gospel are making real changes in people's live. And they some how Manage to keep there live free of The HOOD RAT issues Bynum always finds herself in every year.

  8. The double standard is that women comprise the majority of church goers yet they are treated with lower regard than men. If half the women left the church, no church would survive. That women have figured out that they arent less than is a testimony to the continued use of scripture to oppress people.

Finally, God isnt giving out the titles so we cant really say that he.s looking at someones heart or anything of the sort. The titles and positions are man made and man awarded based on many things have little to do with God. Its just like a promotion at a secular job, earned via whatever is the established criteria. I know we want to say its God, but its really not.

If the presiding bishop thinks Bynum earned the position, then it is according to whatever his criteria is for rewarding her. We can only hope that he considered her with the same criteria that was used for others.

    1. Maybe if half the women left the church, men would finally have room to take their places as leaders of the church and priests of their homes.

    2. What? Men arent leading the church? Who said men should be priests of their homes? That sounds like christianspeak to me.
