Sad, To See Another Church Close It Doors Because Of Financial Problems and Predatory Lending Practices By A Bank.

Reader according to research, on an average day in the United States, nine churches close their doors for good. This isn’t often talked about, partly because it’s not exactly breaking news. Church professionals know the trends: church membership and religious affiliation are declining. Relatively few churches are growing. It’s particularly hard to talk about your own church’s demise. It’s not easy to say what sometimes needs to be said: “It’s time for our church to close.”

Religious leaders in Bridgeport announced last Saturday that one of the biggest churches in the city was shutting down this past week.  Parish officials say the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit on Union Avenue is in foreclosure and the bank will take possession of the building. According to former Bishop Kenneth Moale's wife, the church is in need of $150,000 by this past Monday to keep the bank from foreclosing on the church.

According To Pastor James F. Miller Sandra Bland Was An Active Member Of DuPage AME Church For 18 Years!

Readers, once again the AME church is in the spotlight. Pastor James F. Miller, who pastored young activists Sandra Bland have compose the following letter to the community:

To our great sorrow and bewilderment, twenty-eight-year-old, Sandra Bland, an active young adult who grew up in our church family, has passed. Sandy was in the custody of authorities in Waller County Texas, after being stopped for a routine traffic violation. She died while in their custody. As her church family, we mourn. In tribute to the vibrant young person Sandy was as a member of DuPage AME Church for 18 years, this Sunday, July 19th, at 10am, we will have a "Prayer Walk" around the church grounds as a public expression of unity and a desire for justice in her case along with so many others.

A Petition Signing to urge a comprehensive investigation with integrity regarding the circumstances surrounding her death will occur in conjunction with the walk. Please stay in prayer for her family, our church family, the African Methodist Episcopal Church family and persons everywhere who desire to live by truth and justice. Prayerfully, Pastor James F. Miller.
