Black History Month: February 7th!

A long, long time ago, as a sign of respect for our God who brought us through hard times, it was a tradition for folks to dress up for church. Women, men and children, showed respect and reverence by dressing up for church.

Elaborate outfits served as a way to honor God. When I was a little girl growing up in the 60's and 70's, we always dressed up for Sunday School and church.  Girls never wore pants to church and neither did the men sag their pants..

In earlier times, slaves might wash their one set of clothes; field workers might decorate a straw hat with a ribbon or flower to look more formal.
