Black History Month: February 12th!

Long, long time ago most black community churches had what was called Usher Boards which also include a nurses guild. To be a door keeper in the house of the Lord was considered a huge honor.  Ushers are the first people that are encountered during a worship service; they meet folks at the door.

They ensure that E V E R Y O N E is welcomed and comfortable. Their smiling faces and pleasant demeanors set the atmosphere for  the worship experience. However, they do more than show us to our seat or tend to the congregation during worship.

They are more than the collectors of the offering during worship. And their role is more important that readying the sanctuary in anticipation of that day’s worship attendees. In most churches today the Usher Boards have been replaced by the Greater Ministry/Church Hospitality Committee or Team.
Salute to the Usher Board!
