Why Didn't Tasha Cobbs Show Up For The Woman of Gospel Event In Toronto Canada Last Night? Was It About The Money?

Image
Reader, there are two sides to every story. People have heard one side and have become the judge, the jury, and the executioner. You cannot come to a conclusion just based off of one party allegedly telling the truth-that is nonsense.

Anyhow rumors are being put forth on social media that Tasha Cobb refused to perform last night in Canada, because the venue hosting the event didn't have all her money.   What is in the dark, always comes to light.

An Open Letter To Bishop Charles E. Blake And The Church Of God In Christ Old Guards!

Kudos and high five to "The Uppity Negro" for writing this awesome open letter. I cannot believe all the backlash this young man's receiving from the church folks.... Who doesn't think this was a good idea.  COGIC members, need to stop taking this personal. Just the church sent an evangelism team to St. Louis, is passive. It became a "COGIC thing" to those who are wondering why, your money is being spent in a city that systematically oppresses its citizens. Yes, folks should say something.

The church in general needs to speak up, someone asked the question when will the Church ever learn to leave the building? If Jesus stayed in the Temple as much as we avoid the issues of the “least of these” the Cross would have waited until usher board number two all got matching outfits. Folks on social media along with myself, were asking Bishop Blake in Aug to really reconsider having the Holy Convocation in St. Louis.

 "The Uppity Negro"
Dear Bishop Charles E. Blake and the General Board of the Church of God in Christ, The 107th Holy Convocation of the Church of God in Christ will be held from November 3-11, 2014 in St. Louis, Missouri and as a concerned progressive Christian of the millennial generation, I implore you that during this week of meetings, worship services and workshops that you lead this aggregation of people outside of the Edward Jones Dome toward the seats of governmental power in the city of Ferguson, the city of St. Louis and the state of Missouri and demand justice on behalf of the family of Michael Brown.

  1. these leaders today aren't going to rock the boat to hard... why do we expect them to speak up or out against the government? why do we expect them to change the patterns they've been doing for years? these meetings/gatherings aren't nothing but fashion shows and money laundering... no real change happens to the communities or black owned business during these festivals...

Rev.I agree completely with you and the open letter. I however, believe that C.O.G.I.C. should have cancelled this convocation and hit the city of St. Louis where it hurts in their financial cofers. It is sad to say that they will probably do nothing! Cancelling the meeting would have spoken volumes and full page ad in the local newspaper explaining the cancellation would have been great along with a color photo of the Presidium of the church.

Good luck on this happening! The ONLY marching that COGIC does around this time is to the offering table.

The COGIC started taking actions in Ferguson back in August. Here is a letter that was written back in August:
By Dr Elijah Hankerson, President of the International Department of Evangelism

Thank you for all of your prayers and support, regarding the recent crisis in Ferguson, MO! We would like to give you a short report, specifically on the areas of evangelism, outreach and soul winning.

At the start of the chaos, Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr., commissioned the International Department of Evangelism to proceed into the area strictly to (1) share the Good News of Jesus Christ and (2) witness to lost souls!

All three jurisdictional bishops in the area have been 100% supportive of these outreach efforts: General Board member Bishop L. M. Wooten (Missouri Eastern, Western Illinois), Bishop R. J. Ward (Missouri Eastern First) and Bishop W. L. Scott (Illinois Southeast). These leaders have supplied workers from the area and workers have even joined in from other states and jurisdictions.

We are ecstatic to report that over 300 souls have given their life to the Lord Jesus, around 3,000 Gospel tracts have been disseminated to the public and hundreds of people have received prayer! TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

We are grateful for all of the soul winners who literally risked their lives every day! The saints have dodged bullets, inhaled tear gas, walked for many miles every night endured brutal heat and even a violent thunder storm; all for the sake of lost souls! The “troops” completed their mission on Friday night, August 22, 2014 with the Glory Train! We started with the “Glory Train” and ended with it!

What is the “Glory Train?” It is an 18 wheeler flatbed with a trailer. The saints ride on the flatbed and the “live band” is on the trailer. It is literally a “mobile revival!” This clever soul winning tool is the brainchild of our Coordinator of Special Projects for IDOE: Lady Shirley Wooten. Lady Wooten is the wife of Bishop L. M. Wooten, who serves on our General Board.

Presiding Bishop Charles E. Blake, Sr., will also be in the city of St. Louis on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 7:00 pm. He will share a message of salvation, hope and restoration! The Presiding Bishop is ensuring that the ministry of the Church Of God In Christ ministers to this “deeply distressed and troubled” community at this time!

The International Department of Evangelism thanks for your support of soul winning!

    4. Come on COGIC turn up in St. Louis. Speak loudly against this injustice and madness. I love the letter. Must read!!

  2. FYI….COGIC has been very active in Ferguson, MO doing what surely pleases God, “winning lost souls to Christ!: They have been out there in the trenches from the onset. The protesters should take time out and come to the convocation and get a dose of what God is offering. Have you addressed letters to other faiths? Did you ask the same of Joyce Meyers who held her large convention at the same facility? Have you forwarded letters to other faiths that are also having other services, maybe not at the Edward Jones Dome, but there are many functions going on in the city of St. Louis by other faiths. There is a time and a place for everything…..cancelling the convocation is not going to make the Grand Jury move any faster in coming up with a decision as it pertains to the officer that took the life of Michael Brown.

    1. I was in COGIC for years and it's all about dollars signs. That march will never happen!! However, such a move would send the devil fleeing and souls would be added to the kingdom!!

    2. Bishop Blake will not dirty up his Gators, besides COGIC chrch foks to scared to make an open public statement about anything besides making sure everyone knows to pay there tides, dues, fee's, then you may receive the word of God, they to scared to expose or shame any cause, because there own skeletons will over flow the streets, the most judgmental body of Christ and the most dysfunctional,
      my experience, not an opinion.

Powerful! The COGIC has a wonderful opportunity to make a huge impact on this nation. The question is will they? I am a member of the grand old Church of God in Christ. And Bishop Blake let's stand up for what we claim we believe.

Yes, he wrote it to Bishop Blake and I agree with him 100%. In all honesty the Church of God and Christ should be using the economic influence of the convention to put pressure on the City and State. Marching is great but if they cannot count 25-50 million dollars they will get to steppin quickly.

  4. UHMM, this letter is BOTH CONTROVERSIAL and DISRESPECTFUL to the COGIC church in TONE and IMPLICATION. Especially at the end. UPPITY NEGRO?! TO WHOM WOULD HE BE ADDRESSING HIMSELF? HE SHOULD SEND THAT LETTER CHANGING THE SALUTATION AND ADDRESSEE NAME OF COURSE TO THE FERGUSON POLICE DEPARTMENT, UPPITY NEGRO!! DON'T GET UPPITY WITH THE BISHOP! AND IT WOULD BE IRRESPONSIBLE FOR THE BISHOP TO LEAD A GROUP OF VISITORS FROM DIFFERENT STATES ON A CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE MARCH IN A CITY SOME MAY HAVE NEVER VISITED PRIOR TO THIS PARTICULAR CONVOCATION TO HAVE THEM LOCKED UP AWAY FROM THEIR HOMES, FAMILIES, and JOBS. THIS IS A NATION WIDE PROBLEM. PRAYER CHANGES THINGS IN TIME. YOU CAN'T DICTATE TO GOD WHEN TO MOVE ON YOUR BEHALF. IT WOULD BE BETTER IF THE BISHOP AND A BOARD OF BISHOPS WENT TO TOWN HALL AND HAD A PRIVATE MEETING WITH THE POWERS THAT BE HELD A PRAYER WITH THE LEADERSHIP EVEN THE POLICE COMMISSIONER AND LET GOD WORK ON THE STONY HEARTS OF MEN. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO THE CONVENTION FOR SPIRITUAL RENEWAL NOT TO GET BUSTED IN THE HEAD BY THE COPS. KEEP DREAMING. I AM QUITE CERTAIN THE LORD HAS GIVEN THE BISHOP A HEADS UP ON HOW TO LEAD HIS HOLY PEOPLE IN THAT CITY NEXT MONTH. WE ARE SAINTS NOT POLITICIANS. ALSO EVERYBODY MARCHING DON'T BELIEVE AND AGREE WITH OUR JESUS, JUST A SIDEBAR TO THE UPPITY NEGRO.

    1. how long has this injustice in Ferguson been going on? the board could have been met and came up with something.. one day set aside to deal with the community isn't enough... the community and reaching the lost should come before everything else...

    2. Please evaluate your heart and you may want to ask for renewal of a right spirit while you're at it! This letter is not disrespectful. Before you took offense you should have reread it again and maybe you would have realized that he is referring to him self as Uppity Negro. Just in case you didn't know because of Uppity Negros you are able to enjoy certain spoils of life! Nelson Mandela, Zora Neal Hurston, and Frederick Douglas are some examples of the uppity negro. Just in case you didn't know!

    4. If he was part of Joel Osteens organization then maybe he would. But he's addressing the COGIC a place where he's probably tithed & been a part of.

Well said. I hope this sparks not just debate, but much needed action.

  6. The Bishop always has a day within the Holy convocation that's set aside for the community that addresses the needs of the community. I believe if the Lords leads Bishop to march then the saints will march to glory of GOD. Either way the saints will be praying for the situation here in the STL. The prayers of the righteous avails much.

People talking like Bishop Blake is God. Don't get it twisted, I reverence the man of God and I respect his position, BUT WHO IS HE that he cant get out and march, walk, crawl, jump , encourage the rest of the MEGA CHURCH PASTORS to stand up, DO SOMETHING!... THE BLACK CHURCH as a whole is WAY TO QUIET AT THIS CRITICAL TIME IN BLACK AMERICA and they all need to get their LAZY BEHINDS off the pew, out the comforts of their BIG CHURCHES, BIG HOUSES AND BIG CARS and raise their voices loud...but their NOT because their SCARED. ..scared of losing that MONEY! tax breaks or political connections and influential members ....Black Churches want you to sit and listen to them but many are doing little to nothing about the real issues affecting black people. Just because you give away a little food and some clothing dont mean your working at your full potential. KEEP ALL THAT AND GET IN THE TRENCHES...Im just saying, I THINK THE GENTLEMAN THAT WROTE THE ARTICLE IS RIGHT and I dont care how he signed it... ITS THE TRUTH!

  8. I agree that the church's presence should be seen and felt in social issues like these. I feel like the church of today always remains silent when it should be speaking out. If the civil unrest in Ferguson had something to do with gay rights or abortion, the church would be out there in full foce, protesting, condemning and declaring the blood all over the place. But this issue deals with ACTUAL lives and can potentially affect the life & well being of every black man in this country & the church is nowhere to be seen. Go figure!

I agree Anonymous that the church presence should be seen and felt in Ferguson and beyound. But please don't throw stones at the Church of God in Christ. Our church coming and joining a march isn't going to help anything. They have been marching what since Sept and where has it gotten. If your going to march do it at the white house. What is COGIC doing let me ask this what has Obama done since this issue started? I'm big on protesting but lets fight not with 50 years of traditional ways but let use modern ways to fight back and protest. And we are not spending our money in Ferguson anyway our money is being spent in St.Louis MO now that's facts. But also let me say this and end it. You want me to come to March for change but ya'll wont get out in Ferguson also and vote for change. hmmmmm At least the Civil right movement would get everyone to vote and etc... and march. You only want to do one or the other if you going to eat the pie eat the whole thing not half.

    2. Oh please, the COGIC penned open letters to the president & media announcing its stance against gays. The COGIC acted againts the best interest of its congregation and helped to vote Bush back into office. So the COGIC's voting record isn't all that stellar either. Furthermore, where is the open letter or public stance against a human rights condition that is happening to their very own people. There is NOTHING you can say to convince me that the COGIC hasn't taken a weak and passive position on this issue. Even if they can't change anything, a show of solidarity, unity, and religous support should be visibly expressed by the COGIC. They're always shouting & claiming victory & power inside the 4 walls of the church but wimper in the background when they're presented with an opportunity to show what they're made of.
