What Do Y'all Think Of Hip Hop Churches?
Apparently, in Huntersville, North Carolina, a hip-hop church complete with a DJ on the wheels of steel will move the crowd for the Lord. The church is called Generation One and the Pastor, Quinn Rodgers tells local news media, “We’re trying to reach the unchurched, the de-churched, the folks who have given up on church and are looking for something different.
We’ve taken the hip-hop culture and we’ve extracted all the negative connotations out of it and we’ve deposited solid Christian doctrine in there.” There will be no hymns. Instead, the DJ will spin and scratch and prayerfully somebody, anybody will scream… out for Jesus. The great thing about the service is that it caters to the young between the ages of 19 and 29. The church service is also held on Saturday at 5 p.m., so that allows the congregation enough time to get ready for a night of clubbing at other establishments.
Ok, here's my problem with "CULTURAL TRENDS" and the UNCHURCHED model that's being used here, as soon as a person becomes CHURCHED that church no longer EXIST for that person. Then what? Meaning, if GENERATION ONE church DON'T build true disciples, but, INSTEAD cater to the cultural TRENDS, in which they are doing, then what? The FIGHT is on for SOULS and it gets more intense daily.
The church must be specific, deliberate and biblically based when it comes down to souls. To be saved is to be set free from the power and penalty of sin with a home secured in heaven. To not give young people the big picture is to do a disservice to them.
