The Old Black Church

According to The Christian Post Nick Minaj, 29-year-old New York genre-bending rapper, recently spoke about how the church saved her family, and how God is her hero. I'm thinking basically don't every Hollywood star and worldly musician attribute everything to "God"? Really, this is not a surprise coming from Nick  when you think about it, don't  most of Hollywood lay a claim to God the Creator? Why can't  people be more specific when they mention "God"?  What exactly do they mean? There are many "gods" out there.  You can't find in Scripture were "God The Father"  have instructed anyone to learn of Him. The instruction is and always  will be learn of the One in whom I sent and that would be Jesus.

Five of her albums have achieved gold status, while, she's garnered six Grammy nominations and three Stellar Award nominations. According to Golden Era Gospel Blog , in 1996  Caravans alum Dorothy Norwood recorded a version of the Commodores' 1977 hit, "Brick House", for the soundtrack to the motion picture, My Fellow Americans. For sixteen years, this recording has been largely forgotten, until YouTube user gsj612 uploaded the song on April 26th. Since then, the recording has been shared across social networks and has gained a nice amount of views in that short period of time.

Congratulation Elder Goldwire McLendon who has truly proven that age is just a number. McLendon has accomplished something that many in the music biz have not; he has secured a record deal with a major label. But most notably, McLendon is believed to be the oldest American contemporary solo artist to sign with a major record label. On Tuesday April 24, McLendon, 81, released his first debut solo CD project, “The Best of Elder Goldwire McLendon” on the Music World Gospel record label. To be honest "Black Twitter" is going to be the death of many folks who can't handle criticism .  Metta World Peace, AKA ( Ron Artest) have come under criticism and fire for a bunch of "tweets' he sent out via his "twitter" page  the other day .  I don't understand for the life of me why folks are taking to social media to vent their frustration.  I don't understand why Metta World Peace being in the mess he's already in. Would tweet the above pic, nor why he deem it necessary to send out the tweets that are in question.   All I can say is criticism will make you a better person if you take the time to look beyond the criticism and see the critic. In other words check folks spirit.  If it’s someone you respect, listen to what they say. Last year for Mothers Day, Bishop I.V. Hilliard of the  New Light Christian Church in Beaumont, TX. gave his wife of over 30 years, a Bentley. She was so happy she "tweet"  a picture of it.    We all can agree here that a  Bentley is a very expensive piece of machinery and the average guy on the street is definitely not driving one nor can he afford one.  It's becoming  the status symbol for the rich  mega church pastor,  it's a car that is known to emulate wealth. 

Pastor Frank E. Ray pastor of New Salem baptist Church in Memphis is back in the news again.  This time the man of God is seeking a divorce from his wife of eight years. Pastor Ray is seeking and injunction to keep his wife from coming to church, and from contacting him or acting in any manner against him or the church.  Also in his complaint for divorce Ray claims that the reason he wants out of the marriage because his wife became upset over the fact he removed her as the head of the women's ministry. He states that after her removal she swore that if it was the last thing she did she would destroy him and the church.   Pastor Ray states that he is of high profile in the church community and that his wife's actions has damaged his reputation and ability to work and preach as he has in the past.

Matthew 12:36-37 ESV ,   I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.   Young people remember your own words can and will ensnare you if not careful. Not only in this life but the life to come. Jesus said  we are justified and condemned by our words. Not by the words of others but by our own words.  Just shortly before going to trial of murder, a Louisiana judge has decided that rapper Lil Boosie's lyrics can be used against him in court. There's a line in one of his songs where he states "any n***** who f*** with me all dead. He's been accused of paying to have a man killed.

Bishop T.D. Jakes graces the cover of the latest issue of Jet magazine. The Bishop discusses his success behind the pulpit, as well as in the entertainment industry and what's in his future. The latest issue of Jet magazine is on newsstands now. The opinion I have  posted  below is one I find kinda of shocking when you consider all the work Jake and  his church do for the community.   In the most recent issue of Jet magazine, Bishop T. D. Jakes lets us know his personal fortune is $18 million dollars. I’m impressed by that fact although I’d be more impressed if the Bishop took $9 million and devoted it to feeding those who needed feeding or housing those living on the streets or sent deserving students in need of college. Why in the world would these folks in  Louisville Kentucky think this was a good idea? Sadly, this is an ad campaign  to encourage breastfeeding in African-American moms. How you turn a perfectly adorable cute baby with no teeth into a  big tooth baby with false teeth? I honestly don't get it. The baby didn't need teeth to get the point across and people actually get paid to think these things up.

 Do you think the stripper pole is a inappropriate image for Christian women like Mary Mary to be associated with? It look like sister Tina think so. Mary Mary’s (sisters Tina and Erica) new reality show is on the WE Network  on Thursday nights. The show features the gospel stars as they juggle their careers and their ever growing families.  Grant it I haven't been following the Mary's reality show,so I really didn't know what to expect. But the last thing I was  expecting to see on the show was a stripper pole.  I have to agree with sister Tina here for expressing her views and values concerning her marriage, image, publicity, and possible negative backlash from her fans and  future fans.   Christian women hanging on a stripper pole is not a good image. Famed pastor Joel Osteen reiterated his position that Mitt Romney is a Christian on Tuesday, saying as long as the likely GOP presidential nominee believes that Jesus is the Son of God then he subscribes to the Christian faith.  "When I hear Mitt Romney say that he believes that Jesus is the Son of God–that he's the Christ, raised from the dead, that he's his Savior–that's good enough for me," Osteen said in an interview to air on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer." Shame on Joel Osteen for being such  a coward, plain and simple.  Rather than tell the truth he would rather tell a bald face lie.  Knowing darn well because someone knows  Christ is God's son does not make  them a Christian.  The Scripture teaches Satan knows who Christ is but it doesn't  make him a Christian. Lady Gaga arrived in South Korea Friday to  kick  off her Born This Way Ball Global Tour. About 300 Protestant church members gathered in downtown Seoul to hold a group prayer against the concert in the capital, Kang Ju-hyun, a prayer organiser said.  "We will pray to God that the concert will not be realised so that homosexuality and pornography will not spread around the country," he said.  Kang's group last week put out street banners in Seoul accusing the eccentric singer of "spreading unhealthy sexual culture" through "lewd lyrics and performances," before they were removed by the city officials. Deion Sanders will be speaking in Winston-Salem, NC for an event called “Hope on the Inside” sponsored by the Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries . This ministry focuses on bringing hope to men and women who are incarcerated and to their families.

There are reports that the Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney  plans to deliver the Christian school's commencement speech in May. Just as John McCain did in 2007, Ronald Reagan did in 1980 and George HW Bush did in 1990.  But some of the students and alumni are not happy. Liberty University students and alumni are accusing the Christian school of violating its own teachings by asking Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints whose adherents are called Mormons, to deliver its 2012 commencement address.  I hate to say this but this is one stinking  mess. It look like members of Jericho City of Praise  will be divided between two locations this Sunday following the ouster of the senior pastor early this week.  Joel Peebles, who have led the church  since the 2010 death of his mother, Apostle Betty R. Peebles, will hold services for his church followers at the Metro Points Hotel in New Carrollton.  Meanwhile, members of the church’s governing board have appointed an unnamed minister groomed by Betty Peebles to conduct two services in the sanctuary that has been closed this week. Joel Peebles, the sole survivor of the Peebles family, was removed Wednesday by the Jericho Baptist Church Ministries’ board of trustees. On Thursday, the church’s former lawyer Bobby Henry and two other ministry letters were “excommunicated,” from Jericho which is one of the region’s largest churches. The name Jesus Christ doesn’t appear in The Voice, a new translation of the Bible from a Nashville publisher. Nor do religious words like “angel” or “apostle.” Instead, “angel” is rendered as “messenger,” and “apostle” as “emissary.” Jesus Christ is Jesus the Anointed One or “the liberating king.” That’s a more accurate translation for modern American readers, said David Capes, lead scholar for The Voice, published by Thomas Nelson. CeCe Winans is feature in the current issue of CALLED magazine, a Christian Women online magazine. In this month's issue CeCe Winans is encouraging Christians that being in a world where compromise is commonplace, to never shortchange the Gospel or bargain the call on their lives.  I believe CeCe Winans can and is a great mentor and positive role model for up and coming gospel artists.  I also believe the message about compromise  is being over looked by this generation.  But our Lord does not call us to compromise with this world system in which we live. I've  read that the rainbow is the only natural thing that’s viewed as a good sign in every known religion and culture.  The rainbow is a symbol of God's faithfulness and his promise to never again destroy the earth by flood.  It comes from the story of Noah and the Flood. Some in the Jewish community aren't feeling Drake latest project. In the past week, a video of the hip-hop superstar Aubrey Drake Graham has become the most watched bar mitzvah film clip in human history. The video of the song HYFR has garnered more than 1 million viewers on YouTube, and features the 24-year old Drake having a "re-bar mitzvah." Drake has never been reticent about his Jewish roots.

  In case you been under a rock and  haven’t heard.   Sunday  night at Coachella Music Festival, Tupac made an appearance in the form of a hologram. This is the first time as far as I know this  sort of thing has been used as a way to allow a dead star to perform in concert.  I feel like holographic technology has the greatest potential in the world for deception.  Don't get me wrong, while this technology that was used for the Coachella  concert is amazing.  It's  also is showing the world it capabilities to fool, trick, and deceived folks on a scale the Bible describes would take place in the end time. (If you're a Bible reading you know what I'm speaking of.)  We don't know how this kinda technology will be used in the future but judging from the reaction of it use Sunday night, have ranged from creepy to thrill and beyond. I'm not surprise at all! Dallas, Texas pastor Dr. Robert Jeffress, who has repeatedly called Mitt Romney’s religion a cult, endorsed Mitt Romney on Sunday, because President Barack Obama “opposes biblical principles” such as contraception coverage for women. In 2007, Pastor Jeffress told his congregation: “Mitt Romney is a Mormon, and don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. Even though he talks about Jesus as his Lord and savior, he is not a Christian. Tuesday,Louis Farrakhan head of Nation of Islam made an  appearance at Alabama A&M University where he set off a fire storm with his comment Jesus was a black Muslim.  “If Elijah was at the door and he was black, you would call 911 and say there’s a n****r at the door, claiming he’s Elijah! Send the police!” exclaimed Farrakhan, then explained that it is “because you are not trained to accept wisdom from a black person, no matter how wise that black person is…Jesus was a black man.”  I am a Christian who believe in the risen Christ and I respect the  Minister but he is wrong and mistaken. Jesus and his His Apostles were Jews.  In almost every written documentation Jesus is describe as a Jew. Some folks agree with  Minister Farrakhan in saying that Jesus is a Black Man. The video I have  below makes it more fun and interesting in why Jesus could possible be a black man.

Why is it that when Christians are asked their opinion on homosexuality and answer truthful  they still come under fire? Why are people labeling Bishop Jake anti-gay for his comment to  Oprah on homosexuality?  Some in the Gay community are upset with the answer  Bishop Jake   gave Oprah when ask about his views on homosexuality last Sunday. Bishop Jake's appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s new talk show, Oprah’s Next Chapter:

Unwed gospel singer Le’Andria confirmed speculation that she is expecting her fourth child in September. On Tuesday she release a casual,unconcerned  response to her gullible,naive,deceived and tricked fans. It's oblivious in Le'Andria statement that her music ministry is more about her than the body of Christ. The response this chick have offered is one  void of feeling and care without an attitude of repentance.   I remember back when Cross Movement drop the artist  Ambassador for moral failure in his marriage.  And the artist Da' Truth came under fire for the same thing. Da' Truth took a sabbatical from music ministry to deal with the sin issue. I applauded both  Cross Movement and Da 'Truth  for issuing such a wonderful and powerful statements to the body of Christ.    Le'Andria  statement is one of disgust!

The Christian Post is reporting that a recent LifeWay survey  finds that some Protestant Pastors do not see Christianity as the only means by which to achieve eternal life.  I tell you what,  these false preachers/teachers and supposedly gospel singers  are surely leading many and I mean many to the pits of Hell.  For any Christian church to deny that Christ's the  ONLY way to the Father in Heaven is a slap in the face of God and His plan for salvation.   Article Here!

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- Federal officials announced Thursday that they had charged a man who billed himself as the youngest-ever black CEO of a publicly traded company with running a Ponzi scheme. The Securities and Exchange Commission alleged that Ephren Taylor II -- a self-described "social capitalist," author and entrepreneur -- had defrauded investors in his firm of more than $11 million between 2008 and 2010. Taylor's City Capital Corporation (CTCC) targeted investors from African-American church congregations, telling them their money would go to support charities and businesses in poor communities, the SEC said. May 25 is when a southwest DeKalb High School will have it graduation. But a STAR student said she will not attend her own graduation since it's being held at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Nahkoura Mahnassi, 16, and her mother, Alisha Brown, said it's a poor choice on the schools part because not everyone is a Christian and they feel like the ceremony should be held at the school or at a neutral venue like the Georgia Dome. Some pastors in Alabama are upset that Louis Farrakhan will be speaking  on the campus of Alabama A&M tonight. A coalition of student groups invited the minister to come earlier this year. Alabama  A&M  administrators have signed off on the request to hold Farrakhan’s event at Elmore Gymnasium, and have rejected requests to cancel his visit. Alabama  A&M University President Dr. Andrew Hugine has said that Farrakahn’s appearance is a matter of free speech, but many local pastors have called it a slap in the face to churches and pastors that have worked for racial reconciliation. Pastor Robert Somerville heads Covenant of Peace Church, and is one of several area religious leaders who have condemned Louis Farrakhan’s visit to A&M.   Article Here!

Holy Saturday is the day Jesus rested in the tomb.  It's traditionally a day of quiet meditation as Christians contemplate the darkness of a world without a future and without hope apart from God and his grace. We know that in the Old Testament tabernacle there were different items of furniture such as the table of showbread representing our need for fellowship the lamp stand representing our need for light and understanding, etc. But there were no chairs. Why? The priest's work was never finished!  He couldn't sit down! But after Jesus cried "It is finished" He returned to heaven and sat down at the right hand of His Father-the work of redemption was complete!  The Greek words for "It is finished" literally mean "paid in full!" Christ death covers our every sin from the cradle to the grave. And for us to offer our filthy works as partial payment is a slap in Gods face. We can't add to a finished work! This is the most heart-breaking thing I have seen in my life. The lady in the clip below was upset because she had  gotten  into a fight with her grand kids mother and grandmother.  So in her fit of angry she takes the four kids to the Houston police station and tell  police officers she don't  want the children. "These are not my kids. I'm leaving them here.  It hurt my heart to here those kids crying like that. Sad! Article Here!

Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus. It is the most solemn day in the Christian calendar. The dates of Good Friday, which vary each year, occur between March 20th and April 23rd. It falls on the last Friday before Easter. It is the pinnacle of the Holy Week. All Christians observe this day with great humility and reverence. Article Here !

Season three “Sunday Best” winner, Le’Andria Johnson, is expecting a baby. The twice-divorced, single mother of three is apparently three months pregnant with her fourth child and not married.  The comment I have posted below the break is one of many that I found very interesting while reading the article about Ms. Johnson. This  particular commenter seems to be some what angry in his response.  The commenter is really implying folks are not bold enough in their faith to call sin, sin and wrong, wrong. I got three questions (1) What does it look like for this young lady to be a gospel artist trying to lead others to Christ, but she's pregnant out of wedlock? (2) Why do people waved the banner “do not judge” when sin is pointed out and call sin according to scripture? (3) Is HOLINESS still a requirement in the body of Christ?  If not mistaken this young lady is being groom  to be the next big thing in gospel music.

Today Maundy Thursday or Holy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles as described in the gospels. Holy Thursday, or Maundy Thursday, commemorates the institution of the Eucharist, a Christian sacrament that involves consecrating (or making holy) bread and wine. The term “Maundy” derives from the Latin word for “commandment”. The New Testament in the bible describes events that took place on Holy Thursday. These events include Jesus washing his disciples’ feet and the Last Supper before he was arrested.
