Today marked the day that I have committed to weight loss. Not only have I FINALLY decided to begin running for my life again. I must also give up some foods that's I am addicted to, mainly Sugar. Yesterday I had a visit to the Dr office and my blood pressure was extremely high. I have never had problems before now. My mother died from a masses heart attack at 70 years old. The Dr. let me no that most likely I had the same gene. My bottom number was too high; it was over a 100. He informed me that salt must be remove from my diet and stress from my life. Will someone explain to me how a stripper routine becomes part of a cheer team routine? I remember the last school event I attended in which the students, cheerleaders and dancers performed, as the crowd cheered. These girls were dropping it “like it‘s hot.” It was some what embarrassing for me to watch. I was wondering when will the athletic departments start putting stripper poles on the fields and courts to accommodate the cheerleading routines at our schools? What ever happen to the educational missions of our schools? In a November interview with the Washington Times, African American Republican Michael Steele claimed that Republican leaders "don't give a damn" about blacks. During last week's debate between Steele and five other candidates for Republican National Committee chairman, he continued the sentiment by accusing his party of "rolling out" black members as tokens, for media consumption. We in the African-American community has always looked to the grandmother as the caregiver and conveyor of traditional values in the African-American family. Through slavery it was the grandmother that set standards for suitable behavior throughout the family. That's why I am not surprise that Michelle ask her mother to come aboard and help watch Malia and Sasha. Grand mothers were considered by African tradition the guardians of the generations. While the black family has undergone dramatic changes in the past few decades, the one thing that has remained constant has been the role of grandmothers to enrich lives, generation by generation. They remain an important source of knowledge and stability in Black families. Grandmothers help us understand the past and encourage us to hope for the future.
