31 Years On Death Row!

Let me start off by saying that I don't believed in The Death Penalty per-say, but I believe in the law of the land. Some believe in it for certain crimes, i.e. crimes against children, some capital murder cases, some crimes against humanity, things like that. If the law states if someone loses their life during a robbery or such and you are the one who committed the crime. And that crime is an automatic death sentence I have no problem with that because we live under the law of the land. With that being say how can a man be held on death row for 31 years? Now today I was reading an article were a man has been on death row for 31 years. Ronald Chambers, inmate # 000539, when at the age of 20, he admittedly took the life of a young man and left his female companion for dead after a car-jacking. Now this happen in 1975 and I don't no if I would have agreed with the verdict back then. Now he could and should have let them go after stealing their car, but he marched them down to a riverbank and brutally killed the young man and tried to kill the girl. His accomplice received 2 life sentences for the caper and the murderer received the Death Penalty.

Ronald Chambers, inmate # 000539, is still living on Death Row. Now, if nothing else, this is the Cruel & Unusual Punishment that is prohibited in the US Constitution. 31 years on Death Row? This is living in Hell. It is both Cruel and Unusual. 31 years on Death Row? He should have been dead a long time ago if we were going to put him to death. His lawyers have appealed and appealed and appealed until all we have is a shell of a man behind bars. The State of Texas (which is the Death Penalty Capitol of the Nation) will execute him no doubt about that but 31 years is horrible.

He is so out of touch with the rest of the world. When asked what he would do if he had one day of freedom before he is executed, he replied that he would go to the Midway of the State Fair of Texas in his hometown of Dallas and ride The Swiss Skyride. Now that is sad! This is what a child would say not a 52 year old man.

If you would like to read the article yourselves (http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/16459598.htm)

What do you think, is this really the Death Penalty? ( I don't no if he is still waiting to die the article was written in 2007)
