Pastor Joel Osteen’s Church Has a $90 Million Annual Budget, With A Small Fraction Spent On Reaching The Lost!

P
astor Joel Osteen is speaking tonight in Greenville for the installation of Pastor John Gray as pastor of Relentless Church.  Anyhow, with 90 million dollars at their disposal, it's disgusting that a church that professes to believe and teach the Bible only manages to give 1.2 million dollars to missions and outreach.

According to the article, here's a rough breakdown of how Lakewood Church uses that 90 million dollar budget:

Weekly services and programs: $31.7 million
Night of Hope events: $6.7 million
TV ministry: $25.1 million
General and administrative: $11.5 million
Fundraising: $11.9 million
Mission and outreach: $1.2 million

There are two related things that I find sad, albeit not surprising, about how Osteen and company spend their many millions. Most of that big pile of money is spent on furthering Osteen's brand while a tiny fraction of it is spent on evangelizing the lost. And by tiny fraction, I mean just a bit over 1%. With 90 million dollars at their disposal, it's disgusting that a church that professes to believe and teach the Bible only manages to give 1.2 million dollars to missions and outreach.

  2. These mega churches give less money then some secular businesses.

Such Hippocrates, begging the people to give 10% when the church spends more then 20% on the “T.V. MINISTRY”.

    Tax these churches!!!

  3. Mind your own spiritual business and pocketbook. How much is the reader giving and commenters giving. "Not equal giving, but equal sacrifice". How many hungry did you feed? How many homeless did you provide for? How many people did you did a ride to church? How many people did you witness to yesterday? How many people will you witness to today? Are you operating in you area of giftedness? How many "least of these" did you consider? What's in your wallet and what are you doing with it to advance the Kingdom of God?

    1. It’s sad that the church is not being taxed.

    2. Sorry, but any entity that hails itself as a church and receives tax exempt status' based on that declaration, should be subject to heavy scrutiny and be held to a higher standard.

    3. If most of the money they collect is from donations then it’s EVERYBODY IN THE CHURCHES BUSINESS.

To the people that give to his church, I bet they give more than 1% of their income.

If his church didn’t give a dime to out reach would you still tell people to mind their own business?

Does it trouble you that the church is such a poor Stewart over the finances they can only use 1% towards outreach?

They should stop calling themselves a church
      Or
fire their financial people and accountancies to figure out why they can’t get more than 1% out to SPREAD THE WORD they are CALLED TO DO.
