Kirk Franklin Reveals His Sister Has Been Sentenced To 30 Years In Prison!!

Outside of murder what in the world did she do that could warrant a 30 year sentence? Multi-time Grammy award winner Kirk Franklin revealed Thursday that his sister was sentenced to 30 years in a Texas state prison. The singer did not reveal on what charges warranted such a lengthy sentence but the “Brighter Day” artist has been open in the past about his sister’s drug addiction.

“For over ten years, my younger sister was incarcerated in a facility here in Texas. She was in love with a young man who was drug dealer,” Franklin said in 2015. “He introduced her to not only selling drugs, but using as well. When he was arrested for drug trafficking, she was arrested along with him. After she served her time, she was brought before the review board who determined she was ready to be released and brought back into society. The documents were signed and she was set free… but only on paper.”

  1. There are many offenses, mostly drug related, that can get you 30 years or more in prison. Not to mention how in some states you can also go to prison for being present during the commission of a crime and not reporting it.

  2. This is such a sad situation for both Kirk and his family. She could have been set free from the drug use demon if only she would've chosen to attend alcohol and drug treatment classes as well as changed her surroundings and the people she was associated with. Sure the Bible speaks of renewing your mind in the book of Romans but until an individual chooses to renew their mind and be delivered from that demon it will always be hard. I'm just wondering about the 30 year sentence. That seems a bit harsh to me for a drug sentence unless she still had parole time left on paper and received an additional charge and her parole was advocated. My prayer is that she takes this time to study the word, pray for deliverance and have her mind renewed so when she gets out or God works a miracle for her to be released before the 30 years, she comes back into society completely different. If anyone knows, when you have loved ones incarcerated, the entire family is incarcerated also. Prayers for the family and especially his sister.

  3. I identify and empathize with Bro. Franklin as I having had a sibling addicted to drugs and incarcerated a number of times until his untimely murder 8 years ago so my prayers are with him and his family. Texas, like many of its neighboring southern states have egregious prison sentencing so even for any minor drug related offense individuals can receive harsh long sentences. It is possible that they were attempting to send a strong message of penalty rather than rehabilitation. This is why prison reform and criminal justice advocacy should be integrated into church ministry. We have enough influence with many preacher's and pastor's children, siblings, family, and even their own members are directly impacted by things such as this.
