Get Out Of Here, Elder Vanessa Long Says She's ‘Shocked’ by Stephen A. Davis’ Resignation!

Sorry not buying it for one second that Elder Vanessa Long didn't know that Bishop Stephen A. Davis was about to resigning from his post as senior pastor of New Birth church. If we who are outside the New Birth Church community heard this news months ago, I'm sure she had wind of it also.

Bishop Davis stated in an article that Bishop Longs instructions were not being followed and basically, the board wanted to control him. I’m glad that he left strong and told his truth. Most would have left lying to protect the church. But lying for the church does not protect it, it hinders it’s growth and progress. ( You Can Read It Here )

Speaking to the congregation during Wednesday night services, Vanessa Long said, “I must admit it came as a shock to me just as it did to you. I feel your pain. I feel your love. I feel your disappointment. I feel your confusion.”

Prayers for New Birth in finding its next Pastor!

    1. Chance I agree! I just don't understand how Ms. Long would be shocked at the departure of Bishop Davis? In the public eye it doesn't look good for her to not know what's going on in a ministry that her late husband name is attached to.

  2. The article referenced here says nothing about the lady not knowing, It says "Elder Vanessa Long, the widow of Bishop Eddie Long, said she is “grateful that Bishop Davis honored the wishes of my late husband by serving New Birth at a time of need. We pray God’s Blessings over him, his wife, First Lady Darlene, and the Birmingham church family.”

    WOW!

    3. She is "shocked" is a hard statement to believe! I believe the return of Eddie Long, Jr. under the leadership of Bishop Davis was part of the strategy, or the roll out, of how they would break the news to the congregation. Bishop Davis didn't spring his announcement on the church without consulting the board of directors and they came up with a plan on how to handle it and present it to the people.

I hope dear Sister Long is not that naive! If she is "shocked" by Bishop Davis' departure, even after the impending departure was in the gossip mill for weeks, maybe she actually didn't know her husband was committing the grievous things he was accused of.

In my heart of hearts, I believe she knew both: about Davis leaving and about Eddie L. Long, Sr.'s deeds.

    4. I agree Anonymous, and for her to even say that in public that she's shocked is a true testament to her being out of the loop on everything that is and was going on in the church when her husband was alive.

    5. No it doesn't! I hope your teaching at your church is like the opinions you express here. You lack wisdom.

    6. *not like the opinions...

    7. She knew, that is why she is staying so quiet. It was too much for Bishop Davis to travel between Birmingham and Atlanta each week, so stepping down was the right thing to do. Bishop Long had some issues with the board during his tenure and would mention it in passing. The best course for New Birth would be to install Edward as temporary pastor for spiritual stability.

    1. That I will agree with. She even publically forgave him and that was commendable.
