You Don't Say, White Evangelicals Are the Group Least Likely to Think the U.S. Should Help Refugees!
Are we surprised by this new study which has found that there is no group more opposed to admitting refugees into the United States than white evangelicals? The real sin of Sodom. The one no conservative Evangelical Christian wants to remember.
"Pew Research Center has released the findings of a study that has found that slightly more than half of Americans—51 percent—believe that the United States has a responsibility to welcome refugees into the country. However, when they broke down opinions by demographic, one group stood out as an outlier for how strongly they oppose refugees: White evangelical Protestants. They were the least likely group out of those surveyed to say that the U.S. should help them.

I so agree with Devotions for Liberals following comment:
For decades, agencies like Compassion International, World Vision and World Relief have urged evangelicals to care about the poor and vulnerable, and I think the average church member was mildly receptive. But sometime in the 90s, people like Rush Limbaugh caught the ear of evangelicals and convinced them not to care, and in fact to mistrust The Other and to denigrate anyone who advocates for them. The voices of fear have drowned out the commitment to compassion. How tragic.
