Powerful Speach From Matt Chandler At The #Mlk50conference!!

Reader I've been watching live stream the MLK50 conference it has been great. Over 3,500 church members and leaders are gathering in Memphis for the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission’s MLK50: Gospel Reflections from the Mountaintop conference in order to commemorate 50 years since Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination.

Matt Chandler kicked off day two of the conference with his keynote, "Understanding and Overcoming the Inconsistencies in White Evangelicals on Racial Issues." In all honesty this was a good speech which came from a place of love and desire to see people reconcile.

This was refreshing, coming from the deep south, I've dealt with racism my whole life, I shouldn't have to deal with it in the Christian world too. It should be totally different for those who profess Christ. Now it's just "subtle".

There are many who name the name of Christ and aren't true believers as the bible says if you hate your brother the truth is not in you (paraphrase). And there are those who truly know Christ but seems they aren't aware of what they're doing. I praise God for this sermon and his speaking out on it. Though it should be normal.

  1. Ms. Ann this is so timely.

It's like everywhere I turn people talk want to discredit Dr.King. They are saying the whole Civil Rights Movement was influenced by Communists. And even more some even say that Dr. King was not even a Christian because he denied the virgin birth. This man was a minister. Some of these negative comments coming from Black folks say Dr. King had sex with so many women and participated in ORGIES. I was at a forum the other day and I couldn't believe some of the things said. Some of my white counterparts still believe Dr. King was paid to stir up chaos within the nation. And some black folks still think integration is the worse thing that ever happen to Black people. I was so strained when I left that forum. All the hate in the hearts of so many people is appalling.

Anyways this message was so refreshing. It lets me know there is still hope where people can come together to make this world a better place. The climate of this culture is not good.

    1. Right Cop. They are saying now, the real information on Martin Luther King is going to be released in 2027 where it’s said the FBI has over 800 pages of confidential information on Dr. King, information labeled OBSCENE. It’s no wonder all this comes out on this great man to depose of him. They lie about Dr. King to say he was a trigger to control Black people and was a pawn of the Globalist, and his handler was a known homosexual Baynard Rustin who planned the March on Washington. I don’t believe Dr. King was a sex addict as many try to defame his character. I disagree with Dr. King that the Bible is a book of myth, but no one’s perfect. They are about to bring out some information on JFK as well. I hope this is our season of peace. I God bless all people and heal this nation.

  3. Thank you Ms Ann for the beautiful reporting. That speech that Caucasian minister gave was heart wrenching. I wish the whole nation would take heed to what he is saying. Like it's mentioned here, many would seek to tarnish Dr. King's legacy. They are saying all who affiliated with him as a part of the COMMUNIST Party USA to undermine the fabric of this country. Not only Dr. King, they say that Rosa Parks was married to a white man, divorced him and became a lesbian. My Pastor did a GREAT commemoration to honor Dr. King. Many of the millennials were present and they engaged in much needed discussion. It so sad some would discredit this man of his greatness. He and Federick Douglass are two heroes of mine. Thank you Ms Ann for the fine post!

This was such a timely message for many in the “evangelical” community and I hope they receive and respond to this appropriately.

    1. COGIC BROTHER thank you, I've listen to his speech over 3 times. He's on point, I love how he started with his own church first.

"If I quoted the great reformer Martin Luther … never did I get an email about his blatant anti-Semitism. But let me quote the great reformer Martin Luther King Jr., and watch my inbox fill with people asking me if I’m aware of his moral brokenness."

  5. I think it's sad that 50 years later “pastors” who speak about racial issues (or even quote a brown person) are considered mavericks??? I am so sick of these *white men* crying foul and yet...nothing changes within the leadership of these churches. Sure, they’ve hired a token brown pastor or 2, but any on the senior/executive leadership teams?? You’re all talk and we’re no longer listening. On this topic, as well as every other social justice issue, you have failed at your only job...to make disciples.

    1. I kinda agree with YOU. Not just changes in the churches, but changes throughout the WORLD! There is still issues of race. Satan wants to keep the people DIVIDED. And he will use a COMMEMORATION to honor Dr. King to do so. That's my Opinion.

  6. Ms. Ann growing up coming from the deep south, I remember this underlying disapproval and derision about MLK from my parents. It was implied that he wasn't really a Christian, or not a very good one, because of his moral failings, so the rest of his work and life could be discounted as unworthy as well. It wasn't until I was an adult that I figured out the racism that was behind this. (My parents have changed on this as they have aged. They were products of their extremely racist upbringing as well.)

  7. Does anyone know the link to listen to the other speakers? I read an excerpt from Pastor Charlie Dates from Progressive Baptist Church in Chicago and would like to hear the entire message.
