Atlanta's Megachurch Pastor Names His Successor.

Reader prominent Atlanta Pastor Charles F. Stanley on Sunday recommended a pastoral succession plan to the congregation of First Baptist Church Atlanta. The plan, which was approved by the congregation, was unveiled at both morning services.  It officially provides for the orderly transition of the title, duties, and responsibilities of the role of senior pastor of the church from  Stanley to Senior Associate Pastor Anthony George at “such time in the future, known only to God, that Dr. Stanley ceases to be the senior pastor of the church,” according to a post on the church’s
Facebook page.

Even if I didn't like his treatment of President Obama, I have always liked his teaching style: Very direct, clear and effective; no hoopla, rhetoric, or fanfare. He merely preaches and teaches the Gospel, with no inhibitions, or reservations.

  1. Now that's smart. There will be no surprises ( legal mess) in his church upon his passing .

His son has his own church / ministry north of ATL.

  2. Dr. Stanley has been a premier pastor and Christian thought leader for decades and although his son has his own significant and successful ministry, it is good that the church has in place a succession plan. Dr. Stanley will leave a great legacy at FBC and his successor will do well to continue in it. Other pastors should develop a succession plan early on because there is too much going on that can lead to their loss of position leaving the church in disarray.
