"What does the Bible say about cremation? Is it wrong to cremate a believer's body?"

Reader should the believer be cremated?? Does the word say anything about how we should be laid to rest??? I grew up believing that a believer should not be cremated nor should they participate in organ donations.

The Bible does not give any specific teaching about cremation. There are occurrences in the Old Testament of people being burned to death (1 Kings 16:18; 2 Kings 21:6) and of human bones being burned (2 Kings 23:16-20), but these are not examples of cremation.

Anyhow Pastor John Piper gives two reasons for us to bury rather than burn our loved ones.

  1. I see no value, spiritually or economically, in being buried. A burial plot can often cost as much as a down payment on a home. Not to mention the other associated fees and services. And sometimes interments can be psychologically devastating to loved ones. Some folks would rather not drag out the process of laying a loved one to rest: the wake, the funeral, the burial, it can all exasperate an already emotionally charged time.

  2. Ok. This is no disrespect to those who have been cremated. I have family members who have been. The argument will rise of those who had no choice. Those who unfortunately perished on Sept 11th. That's a no-brainer. Everyone has their own beliefs concerning this but here's a little clip from this dude named Scott Johnson on cremation. Just some thoughts. This guy is a trip though, lol. This goes 0 - 9:34 https://www.contendingfortruth.com/listener-questions-answers-part-3/ Also ya'll check this out too. Again, guy did more preaching in 3:53 than some have in 35yrs. https://www.facebook.com/brownsvillerevival/videos/1007652895939916/ God bless..

  3. The soul leaves the body at the instant of death. Body is just an earth suit. Cremation is fine.

    1. Good word on the earth suit and the soul leaving the body.

    2. I totally agree. As per my last wishes I'm going with cremation. Cheaper, funeral home is NOT getting thousands from me.

  4. Most of the saints and ppl of God were BURIED in the bible. Moses was, even Jesus was. Burial SHOULD be the model we follow.
