Is There A Place For Yoga In The Body Of Christ???

Reader should Christians do yoga? The Eastern practice is deeply spiritual for some – rooted in the Hindu religion – while for others it's simply a way to keep fit.
For some believers though, it's an anti-Christian doorway to the demonic, and it certainly shouldn't be practiced in churches.

Once upon a time I was completely ok with yoga, till I came face to face with the "other side" while in a class. The teacher had the class worship the elephant god. I started praying and singing praises in my head and couldn't leave that class fast enough. We tend to forget that the poses are actually ways to worship other gods. We need to be discerning. I support this young man ministry and believe it's much needed in the body of Christ.

This past weekend The Soul Healing Retreat, one of the first of it kind took place in Biloxi Mississippi and to most of the attendees it was very informative and helpful. Anyways, Pastor Joshua Smith posted the above pic to Facebook and y'all know the rest of the story, the saints came for him. What are your thoughts should Christians be practicing yoga, considering the questionable Hindu underpinnings?

  2. Yoga, is a meditative means of discovering dysfunctional perception and cognition, as well as overcoming it for release from suffering, inner peace and salvation; illustration of this principle is found in Hindu texts such as the Bhagavad Gita and Yogasutras, in a number of Buddhist Mahāyāna works, as well as Jain texts;[31]

Notice it says "inner PEACE and SALVATION"

We as Christians have 1) the PEACE of GOD

"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7

AND 2) are at PEACE with GOD.

"Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:" Romans 5:1

AND so many WORDS from GOD Himself about SALVATION meditation or the MIND were NEVER intended to accomplish.

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9,10

"And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:30,31

The LORD does not NEED YOGA as addition to what He has already accomplished. Good for those SAINTS who came after him. Well deserved!

This STUFF is NOT that hard. Instead of reading the WORD. many fools out there would seek to gain wisdom otherwise, and REALLY NEVER come to the knowledge of the TRUTH!

    1. True anonymous!

Many "preachers" of this generation are trying to find "creative ways" to "preach". But they are adding on to the WORD of God, which is sufficient in itself (Deuteronomy 4:2, Proverbs 30:6, Revelation 22:18-19).

They don't know the WORD of God and assume that church member numbers are reflective of the success or not of "their ministries".

If they did know the WORD of God they would preach it in season and out of season (2 Timothy 4:2) regardless of the numbers in the pews.

  3. I understand the reluctance of Yoga because of its Hindu roots but I also understand there have been people who have saw great health benefits from Yoga. I think you should do whatever works for you.

  5. Yoga Is A Spiritual Technique, Not An Exercise. If People Would Research Things Before Venturing Off Into Them, They Would Find, Some Things Aren't For Them. Years Ago I Practiced Yoga And I Stepped Into The Spirit Realm, Not Knowing What I Was Doing. Every Time You Posture, Pose Are Position Yourself, You Are Giving An Offering To Millions Of Hindu gods. Hindus Believe In Many gods. You Open Up Your Body And Mind To Allow Whichever god To Enter You. You Become One With That god, Which Is Really A Demon. You Cannot Meditate On The God Of Abraham, Isaac And Jacob And Sing And Praise Him While Allowing A Demon To Enter You. Yoga Is A Part Of The Apostasy Running Rampant In Congregations. There Is Also The Hindu Kundalini Spirit That Is In The Congregations, That Has Been In America Since The 1800's Through Our Present Time. Satan Is So Subtle And Many People Are So Blind. Shalom
