Meet Six Black Women At The Center Of Gravity In Theological Education!

Reader good Tuesday morning to everyone I'm praying everyone that is reading this post have a wonderful day, in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

This year, several Black women have made history in theological education. They are individuals who, for the most part, are already trailblazers in a field where historically, Black women are rarely considered authorities on topics from preaching, to pastoral care, to systematic theology, to Biblical Hermeneutics -that's biblical interpretation.

But now they have achieved even more. In some instances, they are the firsts – first deans, first to receive full professorship, first department chair.

And they follow in the footsteps of other firsts, like Dr. Emilie M. Townes who was named dean of Vanderbilt University Divinity School in 2012. She was one of the first African-American female deans of a theological institution, according to reports, and only the second woman at Vanderbilt.

In that same year, Barbara Holmes was named president of United Theological Seminary, making her their first Black president. Prior to, she served as vice president of academic affairs and dean at Memphis Theological Seminary from 2005 to 2010.

  1. So What! Just because they got some titles tied to liberal religious institution does not make them special. A lot of the types are lesbians anyways. It's a shame women are buying into this empowerment movement. Many outstanding woman who aspire to live Proverbs 31, but don't get nearly as recognized as these listed here. That's ok though. I encourage the minority of women who would be biblical women submitting to their husbands and nurturing their children God has a greater reward more precious than any plaque hung on a wall.

    1. @ Anonymous,

      Amen!

Note that the proverbs 31 woman receives rightful validation from her own (vs. 28). And that's all that matters anyway.

  2. I would rather be a PROVERBS 31 WOMAN OF GOD any day than anything else. GOD doesn't call the QUALIFIED. HE qualifies the CALLED. It doesn't matter what college or seminaries they go to.If they aren't SAVED AND SANTIFIED AND HOLY GHOST FILLED. There mission is non in void. I hope this is better to all of those that ask that I stopped typing in all capital letters. God's blessings to you.

  3. Thanks for cutting the CAPS. May God bless you. I do hope to see the day when you can see someone, anyone anything, and not be cynical. I will dash a Scripture your way, You claim to be a Proverbs 31 women, but by your attitude, you can't fool me(Not that it is my business). I am sure you are a stiff necked know it all whose husband has to chill out to "keep the peace"

Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

This is important, because in life anyone can go thru stuff. If one is cynical and suspicious about everything and everyone, every preacher and every sermon, who then is qualified to help, to preach, to counsel, to minister. I wish you all the best. I will no longer comment on your posts. Thanks.
