Church Announcement: Pastor Joel Osteen Will Be One Of The Keynote Speakers For The COGIC,110th Holy Convocation!
Reader, what're your thoughts on this? I'm very surprised to hear that Joel Osteen is speaking this year at the COGIC International Convocation. Joel Osteen, pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, will be the Special Guest Speaker when members of the country’s largest Black Pentecostal denomination gather in St. Louis for their annual Holy Convocation. Why some on social media are pleasantly surprised that Pastor Joel is speaking others in the organization ain't too happy about it.
Facebook Comment: Contrary to popular beliefs, Pentecostals like to do more than hoop, holler, and dance. We do hoop, holler, and dance and I'm quite sure it will be no different on that night, but we also love to listen and learn. Kudos to Bishop Blake and his team for this choice.
Jason St Clair: Some people will forever remain in a box of prejudice, stagnant traditionalism, and regressive thinking. The fact that Pastor Joel Osteen is a speaker at the COGIC Holy Convocation is actually a big deal. This is tearing down that color barrier the more...
This is an opportunity for people to understand that we can celebrate and respect other methods of delivering the Word without the exhortation that we are used to. One thing I will say about Presiding Bishop Blake is that he does a wonderful job bringing and introducing different dynamics within the ministry.
His home church, West Angeles speaks for itself. Bringing that culture to the International COGIC as a whole is great to witness. Anyway, so some of you out there are very much welcomed to complain about going to sleep and not putting your stamp of approval on him being a speaker...as for me, I will make sure that I am tuned in and listening with a receptive heart. I don't have to hear hollering and nice blues scales vocal runs or pentatonic scale based vocal runs to be ministered to.
I'm not knocking that style of exhortation because there are times in which it blesses me especially when he or she are really exhorting about something with substance. However, over time, I have also grown accustomed to being blessed by teaching and straight talking. So, Pastor Joel Osteen, preach man!
