Do Babies Go To Heaven? What Does The Bible Say?

Reader, Pastor Mark Driscoll says he's not sure if babies who've died are in Heaven, including his own child, saying the Bible is silent on the matter.  What happens to babies and children who die? Pastor Mark wrestles with this question in today’s devotion. He concludes: We can trust the God who died so that His enemies could be saved to do what is right in the case of infants.

After a baby dies, if not back to heaven then where do they go? What about the unborn, stillborn, aborted fetuses, young children, and even special needs children? And what about those who are severely mentally handicapped or those with serious mental diseases or disorders? What does the Bible say is their final destination?
We all know that King David's son died and he was sure he would see him again in the hereafter. God must have reassured him in some way.

  1. The scriptures do not explicitly affirm this, but there are several passages that strongly imply babies and the mentally handicapped go to heaven when they die.

  2. Gregory First, NO child born in Adam is innocent...

Second, when God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah were their infants and children there? When he commanded Saul or Israel wipe out an entire inhabitants where children spared? Or where they also judged?

Does death which is a form of judgment skip children?

We see human beings in time but an eternal sovereign God exist outside of time and sees a soul! That child and all that He or she would be is before the Lord.

Every child conceived is born with a nature that is opposed to God.

An oak tree is not less an oak tree in seed form neither is a wolf less of a wolf in its nature as a cub. A child is no less an enemy to God but by their very nature are opposed to Him and will grow to be full blown enemies and rebels.

Ultimately God shows mercy to whom He shows mercy! While two children where in the womb he chose one over the other...

    Romans 9:11
though they were not yet born and had done nothing either good or bad—in order that God's purpose of election might continue, not because of works but because of him who calls—
she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” As it is written, “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

Hmmmin the womb and even in eternities past God decreed this...

There is a lot of human sentiment here...where we exalt our children imagining that infancy if also a way to the Father!

    But there is one way!

Only ELECT infants And children are in Heaven. David child was elect but you can't make this example the standard for all...just because we make our children more important then the glory of God does not mean they are!

    1. Only "elect" infants are in Heaven? Where is the scriptural base for that doctrine?? David's child was conceived in Sin, so if David's infant went to Heaven THEN so do other people's infants who die! God is no respecter of persons!

Stop trying to put babies in hell. An infant has NOT sinned and he or she is not accountable because they don't know right from wrong.

As for the cities that God told the Israelites to wipe out, the sons of Anak, Rephaim, etc. Those people were descendants of the giants, and had corrupted DNA genealogy. But that's a topic for you to study. I was going to ignore the statement you wrote but I couldn't let other people read that doctrine and think it was scriptural.

    4. Ms Ann, that person's words were disturbing. I had to say something. Infants die and go to hell? That means we got to witness Jesus to infants..in case the infant dies?? I can't even comprehend the thought of trying to get an INFANT saved!

    5. "...Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3-4)

"But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 19:14)

  3. All Baby's that die at any stage go to Heaven. I believe the Bible is very clear on this. Jesus loves all children. All children were created by God before the world began.
