Should Christians Support The Death Penalty? Dylan Roof Has Been Sentenced To Death!!

😏😏Reader yesterday a jury sentenced Dylann Roof to death for the Charleston Church Massacre. From a Christian perspective, I'm curious how my brothers and sisters in Christ feel about the death penalty in light of what we know the Bible says about grace.

Jesus' teachings emphasized compassion, and forgiveness yet many Christians strong support the death penalty.  Some think the death penalty is completely wrong, and others support it. Definitely been a debated subject for a long time. But I honestly do not think a message of forgiveness and mercy is compatible with capital punishment.

I have mixed feelings on this, so your answer won't offend me. 😉 I used to be totally in favor of the death penalty, but after reading about the woman caught in adultery, I find myself wondering if Christians should support it.

  1. Miss Ann,

As a believer in the LORD Jesus, I don't think that we have to choose between for or against death penalty. So I am neither. Our guidance on how to relate to Government authority is in Roman 13. We are to be good citizens not forgetting the precepts of God.

"No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier... Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the WORD of truth" (2 Timothy 2:4-15)

The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall NOT want...

    1. Well i tell u what then this is why Greeks/Romans ancient civilizations had MANY GODs its about perception. The God I believe in does not believe in the Death Penalty that GOD was updated in the New Testament that God gave us his SON who died for us. He did not die so that I can become COMPLICIT in a government, societal or personal beliefs or to satiate someone's vengeance. Forgiveness human LIFE is PRECIOUS. Even that murderer he/she deserves to live out their life to its completion. I WILL NOT BE COMPLICIT IN TAKING A LIFE JUST SO YOU CAN HAVE YOUR BLOOD THIRST FULFILLED.

  2. The death penalty needs to be abolished in the US.

    1. Tell the Lord that. Because I read in the New Testament that God's angel smite Herod with maggots for taking God's glory for himself.

Tell the Lord that He was wrong for having David slay Goliath. Tell the Lord that He was wrong for letting the Maccabees kill their Greek/Roman oppressors. The Lord gave them victory and that is why Israel celebrates Hanukkah to this day.

Everyone that says to abolish the death penalty should pay for the incarceration of inmates out of their OWN pocket.

  3. Now before somebody comes in here and say, "So how can a person support the death penalty and be against abortion!?" lol... That's another one used. One scripture. Just what I believe. Proverbs 6:16:17 There are six things the Lord "HATES",
seven that are detestable to him:
    17haughty eyes,
    a lying tongue,
HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD, It's my humble belief that babies are innocent blood and to add that these black brother's and sister's innocently trying to have Bible study that night was innocent blood also that did not deserve this sick act who is not even repentant at all whatsoever. This joker is demon possessed.

    1. What does it matter if Christians support it or not? It, in reality, doesn't affect them.

    2. I disagree, Kate. When our fellow humans are being killed by the state, it should affect us very much. Christians should be doing as Jesus did, and fighting for human rights - even for criminals (although there are many people on Death Row who are innocent, as is clear from subsequent exonerations).

    3. Dear COGIC Bishop,

There is NO scriptual reference regarding Jesus fighting for human rights. Jesus came that we might have life eternal (John 10:10). The choice that we make to follow the precepts of God attracts hate and suffering (Matthew 10:22). But those who shall endure to the end will be saved (Matthew 24:13).

The Human Rights concept is a worldly concept that has no place in the life of a believer. It is an ideal that can't be attained. There are leaders who order killings of civilians miles away in a foreign country, and there is no law that can apprehend them. All they do is claim they are protecting our freedom and human rights. Mmmm!

The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall NOT want...

    4. Excuse moi but when he fought for Magdalene I think he was fighting for women's rights and women are human too.
How can we say we love God and but then hate our brother. God didn't kill Cain he expelled him. However, this is the Old Testament God the New Testament God wants us to Believe in Jesus and trust in HIM.
