Happy Kwanzaa, Day 3!

Reader, happy Kwanzaa day 3: Ujima to build and maintain our community together and make our sister's and brother's problems and to solve them together.

  1. Just can't get into Kwanzaa. The man who created Kwanzaa, Maulana Karenga took pieces of other religions (those candles look like the menorah) and BLENDED it all together like the Catholic Church did!

The second worst part is that he put Kwanzaa right behind Christmas and Hanukkah. That was a bad idea in my opinion. Most Black people look at Kwanzaa like it's a joke. Africans who move to the U.S. don't even celebrate it.

Only the most Afrocentric people celebrate Kwanzaa. But TECHNICALLY, ALL holidays not found in the Bible are "made up" holidays.

    1. @ Tooprotected,

      I agree.

The first President of independent Tanzania, Julius Kambarage Nyerere instituted "Ujamaa" (togetherness), which forced individuals to give up their land for the sake of community and didn't allow for individual advancement either. Otherwise, one would be labeled unpatriotic.

Towards the end of his rule, Julius conceded that Ujamaa was an ideology that was forced on the wanainchi (citizens) but not necessarily followed by the ruling class. And he apologized. Leaving behind a generation of Tanzanians who couldn't fully express themselves in any other language other than Swahili.

Miss Ann, it is best that this Kwanzaa mess is left alone by those who profess Christ as their LORD and Savior.

The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall NOT want...

    2. Anonymous I knew when I post this everyone was not going to be in agreement with it, that's well and good. I don't mind the 7 principles of Kwanzaa. They're good principles and everyone should have a sense of community. Having obligations to your community isn't a bad thing, by the way. It's no different than participating in your church. Helping others will always be noble. Kwanzaa is the celebration of Family, Community and Culture.

    3. You don't need Kwanzaa for any principles. All you need is the WORD of GOD who spoke through revelation through Scriptures. We don't need to add to it or take away from it. The Word contains all sorts of principles for self, family, community and the world. Kwanzaa will always take a back seat and never measure up to God's principles and truths. God died for us individually to give us life and life more abundantly. Once we are saved, we can grow in our relationships, have our families, love our wives, submit to our husbands, train our children, attend a local church, pour into fellow believers using the gifts the Spirit endows us with, reach out to our communities, touch the would. God has outlined all the purposes in Hos Word. We just need to be committed and obedient to what He tells us. No need for a Kwanzaa. SORRY.

    4. Thank you anonymous,

"...Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting." Luke 18:29-30

So much for Family, Community, and Culture, Miss Ann.

The LORD is my Shepherd, I shall NOT want...
