When White Privilege Question Almighty God: Why Would God Allow Such A Tragedy To Occur?

Reader, the above question is from a Christian columnist for the Iowa-based Telegraph Herald.  It seems like the columnist is having a hard time reconciling why God would allow such a tragedy to occur to a devout Christian family who was about to go abroad to spread the Gospel. I believe God is the final arbiter in the affairs of man.

God doesn't owe us an explanation or reason for anything He asks us to do. We can never put God in the position of owing us ANYTHING! When unspeakable tragedy and incompressible loss occur, we are saddened, angry, even vengeful and we are full of questions. Why would God allow this atrocity? How can God bring good from such sadness? How should I pray in this time of great suffering?

Anyhow,  Jamison and Kathryne Pals and their three children were about to embark on a long-term mission trip to Japan when they were all killed in a traffic accident. Why would God allow such a tragedy to occur?

  1. Well, as always, gotta goto that Word. I think of Job. Job lost everything. I mean everything. Even it was so bad his wife in Job 2:9 said, "Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die." In other words, why you trying to maintain yo integrity and be all that! Curse God and commit suicide is basically what she saying. And Stephen while they were literally stoning him in Acts 7:59: And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." This dude was praying while they were taking him out! Oh wow, I forgot about Jesus' 12 boys. When it was all said and done, they were done. Crucified upside down, boiled in hot oil, Thomas was killed with a spear, etc...it goes on and on. So where does that leave us? If the same people who literally walked with Jesus, were basically willing to go thru what they went thru, we are nothing. Atheist use the argument of why does God allow death and suffering all the time. They don't understand that when sin came into this world that opened the door. Also in Matt 5:45 Jesus says, 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust." Now as for the white privilege statement... are you saying Ms. Ann that because she's white, how dare she question God? Just asking. Cause I know too many black folks asking, "WHY LORD?!!!?" lol. I'm serious. Years ago, I went to a funeral. And it was a funeral. It wasn't a homegoing service I hate to say it. It was a mess. Folks screaming why you let this happen LAWD!!!? One of the sons RAN out the church cursin'. It was a mess. These black folks was cuttin' up. I'm just saying. Since you mention "white privilege."

  2. I don't believe "white privilege" has anything to do with this. It's not unusual for people, even Christians, to question God when tragedy strikes. God's feelings aren't hurt by that. He knows we are mere mortals and it's usually in these times of questioning that we tend to draw closer to him as we seek to understand.

  3. Wow! What a terrible loss to bear and heavy cross to carry for their loved ones left behind!!!! I cant imagine the grief...omg...
