Enough Is Enough! Why Are Christians Making Excuses for Pastor Jamal Bryant?

Reader, according to some folks sweep around your own front door. Once again Demetria Lucas D'Oyley has hit the nail on its head with her latest article for Essence, in which she came for Pastor Jamal Bryant.  Should ministers be held to a higher standard? Does holding someone to their office mean we deny their humanness and imperfections? Are we more forgiving of men with indiscretions than we are with women?

I don’t understand the folks making excuses for Bryant here. I've read Christian folk drag women in the church for so much less. Erica Campbell and Yolonda Adam's catch hell about the fit of their dresses on their womanly curves. But yet a pastor can impregnate a woman that isn't his wife and there's a stampede of folks willing to defend him? If Pastor Bryant were a woman, can you imagine what the backlash would be? Picture it: a female minister who admitted to cheating on her husband, and then later as a single woman becomes pregnant? The exodus from her church pews would rival the annual Great Migration. And you know who would probably be first in line to criticize her, calling her out her name? Jamal Bryant.
Rest Here:

  1. I agree with this article for the most part.

A woman shows some cleavage and bit of thigh, the internet goes ballistic.

    Mean while
Jamal Bryant, Charles Jenkins, Eddie Long, and a host of other men can just sweep that stuff under the rug of "ooops, my bad" and move on like nothing happened.

    However,
They have (and rightfully so) given LeAndria Johnson a hard time about her continued lifestyle which is very similar to Jamal's.

You are right that if this was a female pastor she'd be tarred and feathered. I was discussing this with one of his Morehouse brothers and was just like "he can be all the hoe he likes if he steps out the pulpit." This just diminishes any and everything he stands for because he's shown himself to be shady and irresponsible since clearly a condom wasn't involved.

  2. Trust me, I don't give them a pass. This joker along with Eddie Long, Carlton Pearson, needs to go somewhere and get saved again. It's ridiculous. REPENTANCE is what it's all about. The "Touch Not My Anointed Do My Prophets No Harm" scripture will always be thrown into the faces of individuals that point out the foolishness that these jokers do in the faces of the whole world. For some reason, like I said in the Bynum posting, people are basically "star-struck" by these people like when I brought up Marvin Sapp being back stage and carry on a quick conversation, the choir members in line acted like they were looking at Jesus himself. It was soooo ridiculous. We gotta stop worshiping these folks and focus on God, realize that when they are in error and stop with the excuses.

    4. Yeah, but please explain how these verses tie into this post. Are you saying that the woman who wrote the article is a "lover of herself"? That we are in the last days because Jamaal impregnated this woman? Or that some of us who replied to the post are under strong delusion? Please explain.

      Delete
  3. Nope, the woman who wrote the article is overly exaggerating. I mean…just by the inflamed statement made to say “I've read Christian folk drag women in the church for so much less.” REALLY? DRAG WOMAN? There are folks who are for Jamaal staying in the pulpit despite his escapades. There are church folks who have no problem with Tina and Erica’s dress code. As a matter of fact, they are many who support their dress style as contemporary and current given their attempt to reach the young people of this generation. Same with Le’Andria or Juanita.

Unless the woman who wrote this article has some statistical opinions from a poll of people, she needs to keep her pen off the paper. I said OPINIONS, because that’s all there are. It doesn’t matter if she writes for ESSENCE, the NY Times, or WASHINGTON Post. All these publications (yes the BLACK “ESSENCE” included) are ANTI Christian and anti-GOD anyways.

We need to get away from all this gender controversy foolishness. Many have charged Christianity as being misogynistic. Where we know that is far from the truth. The Bible cites high esteem for both men and women alike. There ARE cases where women are treated differently from men. For her to use this example as a case shows a lack of professional journalism on her part. I’m not surprised though. She probably ain’t even saved, and don’t know the Bible very well. Sad thing is many of us "so called Christian" Black folks read ESSENCE more than they do their Bibles. #JuanitaHater#1

  4. I'll tell you why people are making excuses for Bryant is because PEOPLE, LOVE DARKNESS "MORE" THAN THE LIGHT (JESUS). The church has fallen into a state of delusion and don't even recognize it. I don't listen to this notion that YOU CAN'T JUDGE. Well, I JUDGE every day....because of the Words Of Christ. In other words, I am convicted and determined to follow Christ as much as possible without making excuses for myself because HE will judge me at the end (Not condemnation but Judge)....His Words not mine. So, the church continues to believe that you can serve God and the devil at the same time... IT DOESN'T WORK. These so-called Mega Church people...or for that matter, any church that allows ungodly character to go on is Carnal and doesn't hold dear to the Word Of God. My heart grieves because of the compromise and deception that is RAMPANT in the church.... REVELATION 1 & 2. I pray that we (as a church) will repent and turn wholeheartedly to God...even though the WORLD (devil) is trying to destroy the church. Blessings to you COP and TIMEZONE...someone has got to PREACH the TRUTH. In Christ Alone, RLR

    1. Cherry picking? You sure you want to use that phrase? Sin is sin, RIGHT? There are many cases where men commit adultery and remain in the pulpit, RIGHT? Adultery is against God's Word. RIGHT? There are many cases where woman usurp authority over men in the church, being Pastor, and Elders and Bishop, teaching men. RIGHT? A woman usurping authority over men is against God's word, RIGHT?

Are you sure you don't have a "cherry picking" spirit? I mean...you should speak out against women who usurp authority over men, just like you do against Jamaal who impregnated a woman out of wedlock, RIGHT?

And by the way, what's the name of the church that ban children so that a pedophile pastor can still preach?

My point though, you gotta be careful of telling folks they "cherry pick" sins when you may be guilty of doing so yourself. Like I said, just as it's wrong for Jamaal to impregnate a woman he's not married to, it is also wrong for women to usurp authority over a man.

    5. DC Joe, DC Joe, DC Joe...You really silly dude! Do you even own a Bible? Come on. You gotta be joking right?

Here's just a sample verses on fornication written by Paul as he was inspired by God to do so -

      1 Corinthians Chapter 6
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

GET IT... he that committeth fornication SINNETH...

      And another:
Galatians Chapter 5: 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

GET IT...FORNICATION is a WORK of THE FLESH...

And about woman usurping authority Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (God) writes:

1 Timothy 2:9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 11Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 15Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Stop being silly DC Joe with your drive by comments and questions.

  6. When males as created by God start adhering to the standards for them as outlined the Bible is the only time I have a desire to listen to men or women arguing about women usurping authority.

When husband's start loving their wives as Christ loves the church will for many women be the moment they express a willingness to submit.

Men even supposed Christian treat women with so much hatred veiled in threats and hiding behind scriptures they refuse to adhere to themselves.

Many are so quick to call a woman, Jezebel or harlot but behind closed doors and dms they are seeking the supposed harlot out.

Many man have given away their authority willingly and women continue to be the scapegoat.

Usurping authority...that is a laughable argument to pose.

A question I have is how many men in authority know about all of the dirty deeds of individuals like Jamal but sit around and do nothing or pat him on the back? Who usurped that manly authority?

Shameless also are the women who blame other women and even girls who have gotten caught up in a patriarchal system that refuses to value women/girls as Gods children created by him with a God ordained purpose.

God did not design women to be mistreated and abused by men.

    1. OMG…I hope you are not a woman who is a wife. I can only imagine what you put your husband through with your noise and nagging. You come across here as a very contentious individual. Your quarrelsome attitude is blinding your comprehension as evident by the first statement of your comment. Look…I have no idea why you even mentioned the only time you desire to listen about men or women argue about women usurping authority. I bought “usurping authority” into this discussion, not as a topic for anyone to listen to, but to question the idea of “cherry picking” sins made by an individual who commented. PLEASE, GO BACK AND READ!

You took it from 0 to 100 real quickly to state your opinion about men, their calling and their behavior. WOW!!! The things you said seem to be coming from a bad place. AGAIN, this is not an argument about women usurping authority. I don’t get how your comment is related to the article of this post, nor to any of the comments made.

I know this is totally off this post topic here, but since you seemed to want to rant, I have some questions for you, based on the statements you made:
1.) Is it biblical for a wife to want to listen / submit to her husband only when he is adhering to the standards (as you call them) outlined in the Bible?
2.) Is it loving for a wife to only submit to her husband only if he loves her like Christ loves the church? Does the Bible promote this type conduct?
3.) You said men treat women with so much hatred. Do you think this holds true for women, that they treat men with so much hatred? If so, why cherry pick the idea of men treatment of women?
4.) You said usurping authority is a laughable argument. Why so, given this is a biblical ideal?
5.) Could you give an example of how women have gotten caught up in the patriarchal system?

    2. I stated my opinion as did you, which is what we are allowed to do on Miss Ann's blog if permitted.

What I won't do, however, is have a back and forth with you- especially since the tone of your first sentence above seems to question my character as a person/wife as opposed to questioning the validity of my position.

      Good day...

      Delete
    3. Well then…if you don’t want to go back and forth… DON’T! You are not going to use the guise of "my tone" to keep me from responding to your comment.

And speaking of tone, your tone came across as one who has been “empowered” by Satan to hate men. I mean…I just didn’t see any reason for your attitude on display here. I don’t know what you are experiencing in your life, but all indications lead me to believe you are struggling with something.

Many women like you have allowed ideals of a feminist movement to creep into your mindset. Satan deliberately uses forces like the feminist movement, media, TV, books and magazines like ESSENCE to shape woman. And not to sound sexist, there is no such movement to inculcate men in that manner. With men, Satan uses outward influences to destroy his call of God. Outward influences like homosexuality, poor economy, and the courts to keep men down. And sometimes Satan uses women against men. This is nothing new. He did so in the Garden using something tangible and outward as a fruit. However with women, Satan uses all type means to deceive her. Means that will seek to transform God’s ideal of modesty, of morality, and of roles. Where God defines beauty to be inward, Satan uses his ways to encourage “beauty” in women outwardly. Where God says things are wrong and sinful, Satan, like he did in the Garden, approaches women to deceive her about the truth. I mean even here… I couldn’t even BRING UP ONE SCRIPTURE about “USURPING AUTHORITY”, before you flew off the handle and blew it all out of proportion. When God designed women to be mothers, Satan devises a plan to mentally challenge women about giving birth. It was the woman who was deceived. Satan uses all sorts of trickery to deceive women. It’s no coincidence God gave men to be head over women. I know a lot of you feminist type do not like the sound of this verse, but I’m just “keeping it biblical”…

Look…when it comes to marriage, the intent and goal of the LORD is for the two to become one. If you are having a problem with being submissive, I suggest you seek God to give you wisdom. A wise woman builds her home. You need to ask God to show you how to become one with your husband. My suggestion here to you is . Not to debate with anyone else what husbands should do for wives and vice-versa. I sense you are really struggling.

      Delete
    4. No problem with you saying "God gave men to be head over women." If *God* does it. The problem is, when satan's men rule over women, the women are physically abused. I hear crickets from you. A woman who lives in an Islamic country is in for a terrible ride.

I believe God allowed polygamy in the Old Testament, because a man with multiple wives was still the Only head. Can't have more than one head running things. He didn't allow polyandry--a woman with multiple husbands would be in a household with many "heads," confusion and chaos.

Yeah, the feminist movement started out okay. After all, it gave women the right to vote. Now it's full of corruption.

Your tone sounds like another man who loves telling the woman to stay in her place...even if he's not doing his job to care, oversee and protect. I don't know if you are, but don't lord it over your wife. Most black men like the "oversee" and "ruling" part of the Scriptures. Yep, I said it.

Reading your comments makes me chuckle about being single. Even Paul (who you like quoting) said "it is better for men And women to remain single."

I enjoy being the head of my house. I run my own affairs. And no, I'm not a single parent.

Note: this is for the anonymous male whose tone is "macho macho man."

      Delete
  7. Look...this is not that difficult.

First of all, you shouldn't have a problem with me saying "God gave man to be head over woman." That saying did not originate with me. GOD WAS THE ONE WHO SAID IT. AND all this foolishness about Satan's man ruling over women is simply not biblical. NOTE: (YOU mentioned nothing of the possibility of there being a Satan's woman. Wonder why? DON'T TELL me you are a man hater as well. That's what I pick up from YOUR TONE. COME ON.. Satan's man..Are you kidding me? ).

When ever man and woman marry to become husband and wife, husband as the head is the order God establishes. POINT BLANK. No such thing as Satan's man or Satan's woman.

And about polygamy, God never condoned it. HE allowed it then, and do so now,not because it's something He condones. It was always His plan AND intent, one man for one woman, for life. Christ said in the beginning it was not so for this cause A man should leave his father and mother, and cleave unto his wife.

I really have no idea why you are even mentioning warped ideas like Satan's man and polygamy. Like I said earlier to the other who commented, I couldn't mention one verse about USURPING AUTHORITY, before she went over the top. And you my friend is just as bad, if not worse. I'M glad you came to know the feminist movement as corrupt. I think the original intent of the movement was satanic.

And finally, no need to cast shade about me being a macho macho macho man. You mention you are single. If you continue to throw shade in this manner and talk all cray-cray about Satans man and polygamy, you just may remain that way...SINGLE...

  9. You say, "whenever man and woman marry to become husband and wife, husband as the head is the order God establishes. POINT BLANK. No such thing as Satan's man or Satan's woman." (that's what you said)

Actually that's wrong. If I were married to an unsaved husband who wants me to have sex with the neighbors, I must say "No, because adultery is wrong & marriage should be undefiled." You seem to imply that I should submit to my husband since he is the head. ***Innnk. Wrong answer.
Unfortunately, there have been women used by satan throughout the Bible, Jezebel, Athaliah, etc. No bias here.

My point about polygamy was me agreeing with you, that there can only be One head in a marriage. David had five wives, and many other "heroes" of the Old Testament had more than one wife as well. But the original intent was One man, One woman.

Don't have a problem with God making man to be head over woman. I wonder why God appointed Deborah to be judge over All of Israel. Hmm! Surely there was one man in the country that He could have chosen.

Nothing wrong with being single, if that's what God wants. Enjoy your lunch of machos with cheese, homie.

  10. So by your almost ridiculous example of a husband telling his wife to have sex with the neighbor's makes him Satan's man? I MEAN...get a grip. Even in your silly example, You noted the man was UNSAVED, NOT Satanic!!!

I never said or mentioned anything of the sort about you OR ANY woman submitting to a husband. YOU ARENT EVEN MARRIED, REMEMBER! THERE YOU GO AGAIN, OFF THE DEEP END. I haven't a clue how you concluded what I was implying.

So NOW you mentioned women being used by Satan. TOO LATE. If you wanted to appear TO be fair and unbiased, the more proper thing would have been to say both men and women are influenced by Satan. Not backtrack because you were called to the carpet. And even here your example about women you readily show empathy with your choice of words to say "unfortunately". You had no such preclude with your strong description labeling the men as "Satan's men".

Your point about polygamy was silly. When Paul tasked about headship, he mentioned nothing of an example about polygamy. He talked about Christ being the head of man. The man being the head of woman. I'd much rather listen to Paul any day than you any day.

Your point about Deborah is exactly like your point about polygamy and unsaved husband sending wife to sleep with the neighbor. It's a non point to the discussion.

Your are right ...nothing wrong wother being single. But if you decide you would marry and be a wife, let go of all your feminist ways, study not to be done contentious and quarrelsome, and study God's word to know the difference between being unsaved and Satanic. From just your tone...you got a long way to go...

    2. And I hope this is the end of this rabbit trail...WHEW! First of all an unsaved person can be influenced by Satan AND THE world. But so can a saved person. The main point I want to mention HERE is that an unsaved person and a saved person can be influenced by the FLESH AS WELL. I personally believe it more likely, according to your ridiculous example, (most unsaved man married to a saved women would not do as you suggested, despite your belief because of your hatred for men) The man Who would do such a thing is doing so out of FLESH.

AND your saying I was throwingredients shade could not be farther from the truth. What I said about Listening to Paul over you was direct and I meant everyou word of it.

You seem to miss the point of this portion of the post where the discussion picked up at "cherry picking" sins. Your comments proved exactly my point to say women are quick to talk about the sins and actions of men, buthe hesitate or not mention at all the faults and sins in the same arena women commit.

You had no reservations labeling men as satanic and even in your last response tried to justify your claim as them being satanic. But when it comes to women being satanic it was like pulling teeth from youreading mealy mouth to say so.
