A Tarrying Service For Deliverance And The Holy Ghost!

Reader, can anybody testify to these days? Have any of y'all every experienced this? This Is some real Apostolic Church Tarry Service.  I didn't grow up in this type of church so I kinda don't understand what's going on in the video clip.  According to a couple of the saints on my timeline many of them have experienced a "TARRY service", or "Holy Ghost service" or "Fire Service" or simply "prayer service".

Most of these services would happen on Sunday evening, Friday evening, Saturday night or Wednesday night prayer services. Growing up in a Pentecostal-Holiness church we believed in intense prayer and laying before God for literally hours at the altar. We prayed for three things salvation, sanctification and the infilling aka Baptism of the Holy Spirit. We would tarry and say things like "Save me Jesus", "Fill me Jesus", "Fill me Holy Ghost", "Come Jesus", "Thank You Jesus", "Hallelujah Jesus", or even just "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus" and "Sanctify me Lord", "Send Your Fire Lord" you get the general idea. One of the church mothers of wisdom would come and whisper in your ear while you were at the altar praying "Let Him have it" or "Give it all to Jesus" or "Jesus Loves you" and "Give it up" while another would come and say "Hold On!", "Call Him, Jesus", "Dont stop keep pressing in!"

They didn't let you get up when you spoke in tongues they had to know that when you got up you had something and that you wouldn't leave the same way you came in! We believed in true holiness and sanctification more than just speaking in tongues! I remember people laying their cigarettes at the altar and never smoking again, drunks and alcoholics getting sober for good, demons cast out, bodies healed, people delivered and people getting saved by the biblically sound preaching! And the freedom of the Holy Spirit we would shout, fall out, roll, run, speak in tongues, prophecy given, prayer done intensely, dance and just be free in the Holy Spirit.

The poor and rich would worship together and Jesus was the center of the service. We would make so much noise you could hear use miles almost from the church. It was just a great time of revival and holiness. I feel for this generation not experiencing those times as much as we did. But I also fault myself why did we allow the fire to dim out?

    1. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, two—or at the most three—should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret. 28 If there is no interpreter, the speaker should keep quiet in the church and speak to himself and to God.

  2. Nah...No need for all the shenanigans...lots of physical gyrations, spitting (called purging out sins by the way), drumbeats, suggestion, hypnosis, trance, etc.

Anonymous, You sound foolish, the word tarry means to wait to be endowed with the holy Spirit or Holy Ghost but while waiting we chose to help along by calling on the name of Jesus which is power. If we went back to doing this it would be less murdering, stealing, diseases, divorces, lies, munupulation,
false teachers, preacher, apostle prophets, seducing spirits merchandising the people of God. Lot of things was not correct self taught not fully understanding of God's word in fullness but it kept us Praise the Lord.

No one has ever received The Holy Ghost this way! This is a GREAT miss understanding! When the bible speaks of tarrying, it means (to wait). There IS only one way to receive the GIFT of The Holy Ghost and that is, to believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is The Son of God!

    3. Patricia Hamilton you wrong. I have to say this is how i was saved and filled. I was 16 years old. I am now 47. I accepted Jesus as my personal savior, I sanctified myself, and tarried for the Holy Ghost. Don't take from those that have the faith to believe this way. It does not mean we are ignorant to God's Word. It's unfair to treat Saints in such a disrespectful manner.
In Church Of God In Christ, This is what we were taught. If it worked for the Saints of Old why can't it work this way today. Why are people so critical of tarrying this way today?

    4. Berniece:

Curious! How did you sanctify yourself?

The Bible says the Holy Spirit is the Agent in sanctification, Rom. 15:16; 2nd Thess. 2:13; 1st Pet. 1:2; 1st aCor. 6: 11."

      Sanctify means to set apart.
When it comes to being set apart for God, it cannot be done by our own efforts. The sanctification process is when God works in His children’s life to make them more like Christ until the end. For he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world that we may be holy and ... be made holy by separation from sin, being set apart to God, and sanctified by the Holy Spirit, ...

Being Baptized in the Holy Spirit is a Gift! All we have to do is accept it.

    5. OK Bernice...Lets go to the Bible...

      FIRST ACTS 1
4And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

      THEN ACTS 2
1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

NOTICE in chapter 1, the disciple were instructed not to depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the Promise.

And in Chapter 2, a sound of a mighty wind came from heaven, and there appeared cloven tongues like as of fire that sat upon each of them. They were filled with the Holy Ghost.

God came in and filled the disciples. It was His work upon the believers. They were NEVER instructed to layout on an altar, spitting out sins, losing control emotionally and physically to become influenced by suggestion while in a trance by pastors and mothers working the altar call - these altar workers making the decision that the one who "tarried" got a break through and had the Holy Ghost. THIS IS NOT BIBLICAL and we can not make up our own experiences outside biblical guidelines. To do so is error and sin.

I am not questioning your salvation, because the Bible says "For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:" BUT all the OTHER FOOLISHNESS is just not biblical. We got to put GOD's Word above even our own personal experiences.

  3. Tarry? It is a term used
When one is in the prayer room seeking for or waiting to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Also, one can receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit by praising God publicly,or privately. Maybe a lot of things may not have been done right in days gone by, many still received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit .

  4. We'll I see this has caused a Stir....all am gonna say is I tarried for mine and I have no regrets...does everyone have tarry to get it ? NO absolutely not !!! But why knock it or oppose those who do....Acts Chp 5: is a very good chapel to read concerning others methods and delivery of the gospel....it's says "let it alone for if it be of God you can not over through it lest yea be found to fight against God !! ". I love what TD Jakes said concerning this same subject..."It doesn't matter to me how you get the Holy Spirit as long as you got it and it got you !!!"

  5. Some saints are so robotic and think things can only be done one way. Please take God out the box. God can fill you with his spirit when and where and how He wants. There are no rules to this but that your heart has a desire to receive it. So just because tarring does not work for one does not mean it wont work for others.

  6. We are soooo lost!!! That is man made! Where in the Word (Bible) it says to tarry for the Holy Spirit(Ghost)???? Read Ephesians 1:13-14!!!! The Word explains itself!!!!

  7. Whoa!! This brings back memories!! Back in the day we called it "carrying" lol....as in the crazy "saints" are carrying on again!! Back then the holiness churches were very strict and so extreme. The kids couldn't go to the movies, listen to secular music, or participate in any activities outside of the church, They were so sheltered and forced into religion without true understanding of themselves or their place in the real world, it's kind of sad.

  8. Thou I didn't tarry when I received the Holy Ghost, I don't found anything wrong with it. Tarry or Waiting to be filled with the Holy Ghost is the same things that Jesus told Peter and the other to do in Acts 1:4-14 when he instructed them to stay in Jerusalem and go to the upper room.

  9. Well now they listen to secular music, go to the movies, and do all manner of ungodly activities, which adds up to a generation that arose and knew not God. It is sinful to be entertained by ungodliness, but the bigger issue is the heart. If our hearts are pure we will desire to please God. This is the selfie generation. They desire to please themselves. Only the pure in heart will see God. I think their hearts are right.

    1. Perhaps the sheltered imbalance of just church, church, church all day everyday and nothing else has inadvertently pushed people into ungodly activities.
