Virginia Court Official Tells Atheist Couple They Have No Right To Get Married Because They Don’t Believe In God!

Hold on to your seats and grab your hats. Same-sex marriage in Virginia has been legal since October 6, 2014. But atheist of opposite sex can't marry. Marriage is a right that belongs to any consenting adults. But an over-religious court official in Virginia has a message for atheists and any other non-Christian: you have no right to get married if you don’t believe in God.

  1. If he is a civil servant he has no right to do this. He pledged to serve the people. He needs to take his beliefs elsewhere or risk his job. If they are marrying gays...why not marry athiests? Its the law and if he disagrees he should move on and find a new gig. Sad but that's the world we are in now.

    1. My God, there's so much wrong with this situation- First, that a court-appointed officiant made the couple go to his church to get married, then secondly that he refused to marry them because of their lack of a belief. What would he have done if they were Muslims? or Jewish? Refuse them too?

  3. This is one of my favorite controversial conversations.... There needs to be a distinction between church marriage and state marriage. The state marriage, as far as I'm concerned, should not use the word marriage, more like designee. That person, whether best friend, significant other, whatever you call them, is the one who is effected by govt "things" (benefits, life-death decisions, etc.). Whether or not you want to "marry" this person is completely on a personal, no paperwork, spiritual, whatever thing that the govt has no part of!

  4. I'm gonna have to side with Mr. Roth on this one. You can't NOT believe in God, BUT want to take part in something that He designed for a MAN and WOMAN to do together. I don't blame Mr. Roth for not wanting to tie himself to a union that's not lead by God in SOME way. You don’t believe in God or that he exists, so then you really shouldn't believe in marriage. Cause guess what, He created it in the first place!!!

  5. Might be a little tricky for a judge to refuse to marry a couple. He's not a pastor, he's a public official. He's not in his church, he's in the courthouse. Shouldn't matter what they believe.
