Who Owns the Pastor's Sermon? The Church Or The Pastor?

christianitytoday.com

Oh my, I never thought about this. This discussion is quite interesting, who really owns the pastor's sermon? Church or pastor? When sermons become books that make millions in royalties, the answer is important.

  1. The church owns the rights of the sermons preached whenever the preacher is compensated via love offerring or any other monetary payment... Many would argue the preacher has intellectual rights to his/her material... Which is true, until they accept compensation...

  2. Rev. Kareem I didn't even know that this was or could be an issue until reading the article. I am surprised that this question has even arised. If one look at this issue in a material and physical sense and not spiritually, I would have to agree the church own the rights.
