Oklahoma Senator Use Verse From The Book of Genesis To Support Marijuana Legalization!

Lord have mercy, Oklahoma Senator Constance Johnson has cited Genesis 1:29 as a reason to legalize pot. The scripture states,
“Then God said, ‘I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food."
Johnson has interpreted the scripture to mean God made the plant so it should be legal for use.  This Genesis verse is often used by marijuana users to justify their use. I'm not surprised. Any Bible verse can be taken out of context to justify virtually anything.
“We’re putting forth in Genesis 1:29 as the basis of this campaign,” Johnson said. “God created this wonderful, miraculous plant and we know that is has been vilified for the last 100 years, and it’s time to change that in Oklahoma.”
The earth was cursed and changed since because of mankind's sin. (Genesis 3:17-19).

  1. What ? Why that`s like legalizing the Poppy plant. Now, it has been discovered by scientist that this plant does have certain qualities that are useful to mankind. However , the Earth has been cursed according to the Bible so, more than likely the original purpose for this particular plant still remains obscure. This plant should only be used under legal prescriptive allotments that would be appropriate for individuals who may truly benefit from its known qualities. It should be censored from being sold over the counter and used for generic proposes. It should not be sold over the counter as a remedy for some phantom and mysterious pains that so many of it`s current users claim to have. I feel it should be prescribe just like any other controlled substance. If it brings relief to cancer patients or terminal patients and others who suffer from ailments that can be relieve by using this plant then I say that`s reasonable. There should always be diagnostic evidence to justify it`s use. It should not be available for generic usage just so folks can (mix it with Lord knows what ) walk around, drive and work as "HIGH" as a kite. I wouldn't want my dentist or any surgeon to be under it`s influence and then I`m the next patient sitting in the chair or laying unconscious on the operating table. It`s bad enough that we are currently so vulnerable and ignorant of what`s really going on in these types of sensitive situations with Dr`s, Nurses, Bus Drivers , Pilots and Train Conductors, etc, etc, etc. We really don't know when we are subject to someone under the influence of some mind altering meds or substance. We just have to put our trust in the Lord Jesus to protect us on a daily basis. That`s my personal opinion !

    1. Talk about out of context!

    2. It may seem "out of context" if one is afflicted with a bad and limited understanding in rational thought processes.

  2. Everything is permissible (allowable and lawful) for me; but not all things are helpful (good for me to do, expedient and profitable when considered with other things). Everything is lawful for me, but I will not become the slave of anything or be brought under its power. - 1 Corinthians 6:12

  3. Before the fall of man, everything was perfect. There were no weeds, thorns, etc. Weed is the result of the curse.

  4. In Genesis 1:29 God said He would give man every plant on the earth bearing seed, for food. He didn't say to smoke it.

Ignorance , misinterpretation and misapplication of the Word of God will lead many souls to destruction and everlasting hell fire.

  6. "Silly rabbit" tricks are for I get it. Minorities are disproportionately arrested and sentenced more harshly for possession of marijuana. So, work on those laws.

If legalized, I believe that usage among the younger set will increase and bring about a false freedom to use at will. Legalization will not prevent a black market of growing and cross breeding different types of marijuana. I can vividly recall watching one of the national evening news reports back in the '70s, that said studies showed that cocaine was not addictive. Well...that turned out not to be so. Our kids have enough barriers to success. Use of weed is addictive. I haven't conducted a controlled scientific study; but my study is the observation of our community. Legalization for medical purposes perhaps. But, general legalization won't be beneficial to the African American community. There is currently an ad that asks, Do you know anyone who has died from using marijuana? My answer is yes. They spent most the day smoking weed and then topped it off with alcohol and crashed. Weed is a strong contributor to many severe and fatal accidents. .

Anyway, in this case, Constance is a biblical poser. All the way out of context.

  7. To the author,

Even after the Earth was cursed, God said that the herbs were still blessed. (Herbs, not mandrakes, and other types of plants.)

    See Genesis 9:3

  8. Genesis 9:3: "Every moving thing that is alive shall be FOOD for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant.

    1. My apologies. I believe that the King James Version of the Bible is the more accurate English translation. I should have mentioned that.

Gen 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
