Some of my peeps in the Christian Community are highly upset with James MacDonald and Mark Driscoll for inviting Bishop T.D.Jakes to one of their leadership forum in January. The controversy is surrounding the doctrine of the Trinity. A number of people who support the idea of the Elephant Room, could not support the invitation of Bishop TD Jakes to be part of the conversation. The primary reason for concern centers on whether or not TD Jakes actually believes in the historic doctrine of the Trinity.
Any one who have followed the teaching of Bishop Jakes is aware that the bishop grew up under the teaching of Oneness Pentecostalism. I believe Bishop Jakes has tried for many years to explain his stand concerning the teaching of the trinity. Some in the Christian community has label Bishop Jakes a false teacher and heretic.
Now the event in question supposed to be a “conversation among all kinds of leaders about what the scriptures actually teach” that will be aired on January 25, 2012 in nearly 100 cities in North America. Part of the goal of the Elephant Room is stated on their web site.
“To advance Christ’s call to unity we must do what men have always done, we must push and prod and challenge and sharpen each other’s beliefs and methods.”
