Could A Boring Preacher Survive In The Black Church?

What come to mind when you here boring church? Some will say it's the Sunday morning church service, that seem  to last forever that comes to mind.  Some will say it's the preacher who is so incredibly boring that the whole congregation  seem to be falling to sleep. Others will say it's the number of people in attendance (small church) that makes a church boring.

I believe any time we point out a preacher, teacher or speaker sermon as being boring. We  have to ask is it boring because of the speaker, teacher or preacher is boring....or is it boring because of me the listener? I learn long ago that a message is not really sent unless both speaker and listener are putting in equal effort. Therefore listening is just as crucial as speaking.

I remember a couple of years ago when Paula White came under fire for claiming  that the Apostle Paul was a boring preacher. Many in the Christian blogging world didn't like it.    I also remember back in my early and younger Christian days I would call a white preacher on TV  boring  in a heart beat.  But in my Christian growth I've learn not to apply that label boring  to quickly to a sermon or preacher. Because in reality it could be me the listener as much as it could be the speaker, preacher or teacher.

So when I read this very interesting blog post  stating that boring preachers should be fired. I was surprise and taken back by the piece title.   But after reading the article I have to say the author actually made two very good points that I agree with. (1)  The need for the presentation of God’s Word should incite worship within us. (2) Engaging talks may be good but without  real doctrine it can be useless and damaging.
