Gospel Today’s Magazine Catch Hell For Cover Story Regarding Bishop Eddie Long!

Some of "Gospel today magazine" readers are pissed off  with  Dr.Teresa Hairston...the November/December issue of the magazine  have Bishop Eddie Long on the cover...with a article inside relating to the scandal surrounding the bishop.....some readers think the magazine have/has sugar coated  the truth..... One reader wrote back to the publisher:
“I got my latest issue of Gospel Today; with [Bishop] Eddie Long on the cover. I read the article and said to myself hmmmm seem like some sugar coating going on. Turned back to the 1st page and saw where the Bishop of his Church in NC is on your Board of Directors, I looked down and also saw that Eddie Long is on your Board of Advisors, I said all of that to say this. The best thing your magazine should have did was to not comment, but I do understand why you did. God is not pleased with all of the hypocrisy going on with these leaders and the things people will say and print just for MONEY!!!!
Question: was/is the magazine wrong to have done a article on the bishop knowing that he's apart  of their "Board of Advisors"? Check out some of the comment under the article.

  1. Eddie Long is not discussing the case in the media...it would be wise for other media outlets to do the same, unless they are simply reporting facts.

This case has lots of controversy and heated feelings on both sides, so no matter if you support Eddie Long or the men who are accusing him, you will certainly upset someone.

And then there is the "ratings" aspect of the story. Editors know whether you are for or against Eddie Long, a story about him now will cause people to tune in. (Kinda like me writing about this on your blog, lol!). A firestorm of comments is good for business. I watched a competitor's site rankings shoot through the roof when this story first broke. Now, those ratings have settled back down, actually less than they were before.

But one thing I have observed is that today's church folk are much different that yesterday's church folk. What do you think the grandmothers and old-time deacons from say, the 70's and 80's, would say about this?

  2. All I have to say is I know for a fact that a lot of black leaders will not be honest. Yes some other leaders get caught but they do finally tell the truth out leaders dont, but they will preach about being right. I know someone who went through this and came to find out it was true about their leader, you never know. Everything that cries holy anit holy.

  4. I cannot even understand how any publication would comment on an issue (especially a cover story)about a board member without noting such an affiliation in the story. Did the mag think it's readers wouldn't notice? If a magazine comments on it's own staff or board members it should do so as an editorial piece. Come on now.

  5. I believe Lyfe Jennings says it best, "Church folk think their foolin' someone."
When you receive spiritual discernment in your life, to which God said that He will pour out His spirit on ALL flesh, you will have the insight to see fakes from afar. Just because someone looks like light on the outside, doesn't mean there isn't some darkness hiding on the inside. We must watch as well as pray, for all to walk upright and be truthful with themselves and others. But, we all know that some will hide their knowledge of the truth to protect those they love sometimes. These people have known Bishop Long for many years. It is their love and friendships with him, that causes them to be blind to any wrong that he may commit. Love can make you bias sometimes, as well as blind.
