Palm Sunday Is Hope!

Palm Sunday is an observance that recalls Jesus arrival into Jerusalem at the beginning of what would be the last week of his life....This Sunday in most churches Christians around the world will celebrate that observance...The gospel reveals that Jesus arrives in Jerusalem riding humbly on a colt.... The crowd  and His disciples line the road with cloaks and branches from trees...They  greet him with  palm branches waving, and shouting' Hosanna"! ...Immediately following this great time of celebration in the ministry of Jesus, he begins his journey to the cross.

A major theological theme of Palm Sunday is hope. The entry of Jesus into the holy city of Jerusalem on Palm Sunday is the witness that God will not leave creation to continue in the status quo of power arrangements that rob persons of what the Divine intended, whether those power arrangements have Roman origin or Jewish origin or other origins. For African Americans who have often suffered from the power arrangements of the status quo, Palm Sunday is a day of hope and celebration that speaks to divine possibilities for change.
