The Symbol Of Racism And Hate.

I was born and raise in LA (lower Alabama) and for what every reason there might be I can't help but associate the Confederate flag with hate groups (i.e skin heads, KKK)... Every hate group I have ever seen or heard about uses the Confederate flag as their symbol, in some kinda way.
There are two sides to every story and for every person that see the Confederate flag as honorable, there are those that see it as a symbol of hate.. I see it as a symbol of hate but also as a symbol of free speech...But I often wonder whenever the klan started using the Confederate flag as their symbol, WHY in the hell didn't the Daughters of the Confederacy and others who love the confederate flag object, protest, or speak out? I'm just curious...Anyway several Confederate flags placed on the graves of Civil War soldiers got pulled up last week by a black Auburn city councilman, who called them symbols of racism and hatred....While I do agree that many people use the Confederate flag and it's image in a racist manner but I don't think it was the councilman's place to remove the flags... Now the flags were on private property so he could have complained to the grounds keepers about the flags Again I don't know the full story, but it sound as if the woman who placed the flags did so in a way to bring honor to the dead, not to promote racism... I can't know that for sure, though, since I don't know her and didn't encounter the situation firsthand. I think the flags would've been a bit more appropriate/less questionable if this would've been a Confederate cemetery, but from reading the article, I can see it wasn't... Still, I feel this situation should be treated the same way as if somebody stole flowers or any other memorabilia off a grave... The councilman is entitled to his beliefs and convictions, but they should not be displayed by removing something off a person's grave.

Is Cheating Less Forgivable When You Have Kids?

US Weekly is reporting that reality-TV-dad-of-eight Jon Gosselin has been caught with another woman.. Jon, who stars on the reality show Jon and Kate Plus 8 denies the accusation... Whether it's true or not the cheating rumors have me wondering...Is infidelity worse when there are kids involved? In my heart I feel that when parents cheat, they're also cheating on their kids, and if the relationship eventually breaks up, so does the family... Then again, maybe cheating is just a bad idea no matter what your family situation is so my Question:
  1. Is cheating less forgivable when you have kids?
  2. Do cheating betray both spouse and kids or just the spouse?
  3. Is cheating between spouse and not the kids?

Breastfeeding While Intoxicated.

It's not a good idea to drink alcohol or take drugs while pregnant or breastfeeding... It’s really a better idea to stay as clean and sober as possible while raising children...But come-on how many mothers in the past would have been arrested for something like this?...Not many! Meet Stacey Anvarinia a 26 year old North Dakota woman, who is facing a child neglect charge for allegedly breast-feeding while drunk, according to court records. Anvarinia yesterday pleaded not guilty to the criminal count, which stemmed from a police visit to her home in February.... While responding to a domestic disturbance call, the police officer watched as an "extremely intoxicated" Anvarinia "began breast feeding her infant in front of them," according to an incident report... Since alcohol can pass from mother to child via breast milk, Anvarinia was arrested for neglecting her six-week-old infant (the felony information filed against Anvarinia in District Court can be found here)... The baby was transported to Altru Hospital for examination, while Anvarinia was being booked into the county lockup.

Riverside "Church Pastor Says His Raise Was Lord-Approved”

The pastor of Riverside Church in New York City, one of America’s most respected Black churches, is under fire from some members of the congregation for the amount of money in his annual compensation package... Which total more than $600,000 by the time you figure in $250,000 in salary; $11,500 monthly housing allowance; private school tuition for his child; a full-time maid; entertainment, travel and "professional development" allowances; pension and life insurance benefits; and an equity allowance for him to save up to buy a home.... I truly believe that "the laborer is worth his/her hire." But, there is nowhere in scripture that states that a Pastor is too live in excess.... Does a man of God need $600,000 annual compensation and a maid to live comfortably? Did Jesus or any of his apostles live that 'High on the hog?" Also scripture clearly states that we should not do anything that may cause others to stumble...The word is out that Dr. Forbes had to adapt his theology with that of his bosses at Riverside(one being David Patterson)Word is that Dr. Forbes, when hired by Riverside Church, did not believe that homosexuality was a gift from God, but all of a sudden his theology changes, and was told that he changed his theology in order to keep his job...If that is the case I do wonder how free Pastor Braxton will be, meaning in his preaching what the Holy Spirit gives him?All of this is fulfilling scripture in 2 Timothy 4:3, "For in the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine... Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."And obviously they will pay good money to get them.

I’m Going To Pay My Tithe First Says Evander Holyfield.

I don't have a problem with tithing and I am a believer in biblical giving of 10 percent of your income... whether based on your net or your gross...It's a stretch for many Christians which was done through a study by the Christian-based survey organization The Barna Group which was released last year which revealed only 5 percent of Americans tithed.

That is not the case for retired professional boxer Evander Holyfield. The former four-time heavyweight champion had a chunk of his ear bit off in his most infamous bout against Mike Tyson in 1997. He received a $35 million payout for the fight. A flat 10 percent—$3.5 million - went to Atlanta’s World Changers Church.

The charitable giving of professional athletes, with a focus on Holyfield and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, was the subject of a piece run Sunday by ESPN’s Outside the Lines news magazine.

World Changers and Missouri-based Joyce Meyer Ministries, which Warner is affiliated with, both preach the prosperity gospel. It states, in a nutshell, that God will bless those most who contribute substantially to the church.

When asked about Holyfield’s enormous contribution, World Changers Pastor Creflo Dollar said, “I’m as comfortable as I would be by someone whose tithe is five dollars.“Clip here....

Pressed about Meyer’s recently sold $2 million home, Warner compared international ministry heads to corporate CEOs and wealthy athletes such as himself. “Does it mean I shouldn’t have (wealth) just because I’m a Christian?“ he asked rhetorically....Regardless of your opinion of the prosperity gospel, ESPN wraps up with a telling statement by Holyfield, who is facing foreclosure on his mansion.

“I’m going to pay my tithe first,“ he said when presented with the choice of paying it or his mortgage. “Me paying that tithe is going to better me in the long run.“

That is what is wrong with the prosperity gospel.... its twisted, false, and unbiblical. Its not true to scripture... Its not true to God... Jesus was not rich when He can in the flesh...When Jesus walked in the flesh He had people who hated him, betrayed him , denied him ,beat him, spit on him, and crucified him...You can not tell me God never allows Christ followers to suffer... All but Judas and John out of the disciples died horrible martyrs deaths! God is all satisfying and the greatest pleasure to those that love him , but that does not mean people , will love you or that you'll never get sick, or that you'll have lots of money...you can be very very poor and still be more blessed than the rich Man who "gains the whole world but loses his soul..." Jesus told others to "store up treasures in Heaven" Not on earth.... He told those who elevated money above God to sell what they had and give to the poor...not buying a jumbo jet. This prosperity gospel is just another form of oppressive religion...not true spirituality.

Negros And Conspiracy.

I for one believe we've been on the verge of a revolution for over 30 years...Some Negros will always have a conspiracy theory... They will always be suspicious of something... It has got to be a bad way to live... Especially, if you have no solutions...We now have rap acts voicing criticism of the president in a new documentary... Rapper KRS One and former Public Enemy member Professor Griff speak out against the nation's first black president in the new documentary, "The Obama Deception." According to a News Review, KRS believes corporate elites continue to control the White House, no matter who is in the Oval Office. "If they controlled it before, what makes you think they're not controlling it now," the rapper says in the new DVD from talk radio host Alex Jones. "The country was on the verge of revolution [and] they threw a black man up, now we like this." "They put a black face on the New World Order and now we all happy," he continued. "KRS ain't buying it." Professor Griff said in the film: "Obama has been given a pass by the blue bloods. He has been given the okay by certain secret societies for them to let him in. I truly believe imperialism and fascism needs a face lift and the face lift is going to have to be black." "The Obama Deception" is critical of the president and questions Obama's ties to Wall Street and his ability to keep promises, reports Robert "Rob" Redding Jr. KRS's current view of the president differs from his stance last year, when he said that Obama's White House run was "great for America." Griff, however, has made it clear that he was never an Obama supporter. He supported Green Party candidate Cynthia McKinney...Move over Alan Keys you got company... I did watch about 30 minutes of the documentary and came to the conclusion it was spliced and edited to say what the producer want it to say.

Is A Ban On Baggy Pants Racism In Disguise?

In 2008, 72 percent of voters in Riviera Beach, FL, passed a ban on pants that ride below the waist exposing skin or underwear... But it turns out loose waistbands are a civil liberty... A judge ruled this week that the ordinance violated the 14th amendment of the constitution, because there was no legitimate government interest in the law regulating style.

The city argued that the ban on saggy pants wasn't based on sartorial concerns, but safety concerns, since residents could hide weapons in their loose-fitting clothes. The judge didn't buy that.

Police in various states around the country have cracked down on baggy pants. In Flint, MI, the new chief announced last year that he would begin arresting people with droopy drawers for indecency and make offenders face a $500 fine and up to three months in jail.

In addition to the judge in Florida, the laws have raised the concerns of the ACLU and the NAACP, which worry about the racial implications. They think the baggy ban has the potential to disproportionately target the black community... I think the ban is ridiculous, since when does America have fashion police?

Having A Grateful Heart.

There seems to be a growing resentment against store clerks who ask people if they would like to donate $1 to cure cancer, help homeless pets, feed the homeless, cure muscular dystrophy, etc....If you've been grocery shopping lately, I'm sure a cashier has asked you to help some cause...Now I grew up believing that it's always better to be the giver to charity than the receiver of charity...Remember in our Sunday School class were we was taught about the 10 men with leprosy who came to Jesus asking for "Pity"..."Have pity on us!" Pity - it's an admission that were are desperate for whatever charity another person might provide..."Go show yourselves to the priests" was Jesus response..."As they went," the Bible says, "they were cleansed"(Lk 17:14). But the story doesn't end there...One of them when he saw he was healed, came back praising God in a loud voice...He threw himself at Jesus feet and thanked Him and he was a Samaritan (Lk 17:15-16 )What takes place next is very interesting...Jesus asks, "Where are the other nine?" (Lk 17:17 ) Jesus is making a point: gratitude is important to Him...This story is there to underscore the importance of having a grateful heart...Two statements are worth underlining: He came back and Where are the other nine? Gratitude is coming back to say thanks to the One who made it all possible...Gratitude isn't a natural or instinctive thing for most of us, it's a learned discipline one that comes with a realization that we neither deserve nor are entitle to God's blessings...At best we're graced recipients of all we have and are...Remember how the old cowboy would doff his hat and say "Much obliged?" The words imply humility: which mean I cannot get along by myself...They imply reliance: that I need people around me, and that I need God...They imply value: that I recognize the cost involved in giving...They imply gladness:that my life has been filled with a joy that only comes when I reach out to others with grace.

The Washingtonian Magazine Cover Is Disrespectiful To The President And The Country.

The President of the United States Barack Obama is on the cover of the Washingtonian Magazine May issue...The image was taken during a recent vacation in Hawaii following the election in December...The cover is causing a stir among protective supporters and the more conservative (in the non-political sense.) The choice comes to many as a surprise as the Washingtonian is generally noted for being far more clean cut in its image... The magazine is regarded as the beltway’s top magazine, noted for its regular rankings and detailed coverage of area professionals, businesses, and places, the publication typical stays away from such controversy...Many critics have called the cover disrespectful as it depicts the presidency as Hollywood thus robbing him of his power equity. Would the magazine have published a shirtless photo of any other president for its cover? NO! President Bush was buff but we did not see a picture of him shirtless.

My thoughts: We're going to see a lot more of this especially from magazines since Their industry is dying and desperate times call for desperate measures....To me the picture is completely out of character... Although the Washingtonian has been known to take a shot or two over the years with its political cartoons I don’t think we have ever seen the president shirtless... Tabloid, gossip and entertainment rags…yes I’d understand. This just comes off as an publicity stunt.

It Takes Courage To Be Honest.

Miss California at the Miss USA 2009 competition, when asked by a judge whether or not she believes every state should follow Vermont's suit as the fourth state to legalize same-sex marriage:

"I think it's great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage . . . I think that I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there . . ."

I don't understand why she is under such fire for voicing her opinion... I am not gay but I want equal rights for every one but at the same time I don't think people should be afraid to share their thoughts and opinions isn't that's what America is about?...Too me it's like she's being bully for her honesty rather than applauded for answering a loaded question with honesty...again I am for equal rights for every one as well as freedom of speech.... I might not agree with her answer but I can also see that she was not trying to impose her beliefs on anyone she was just simply stating her opinion...It's true she could have worded her answer a bit differently but all in all she shouldn't be judge for her beliefs... After all, isn't judging others beliefs causing all this "for" and "against" controversy in the first place?

The other contestants had such easy questions to respond to:

  1. Should the U.S.A. help Darfur?
  2. Should girls develop eating disorders to look like you?
  3. Are kittens with balls of yarn cute?
  4. Should gay marriage be legal in all 50 States?

Not clear-cut for her when she is trying to answer honestly, please the judges, and win the crown.

Ministering And Proclaiming The Word Through Dance.

Ministering mime is interpreting gospel music, using illustrations and non-verbal methods to allow the congregation to understand what you are doing just like Ezekiel demonstrated in the Old Testament... Gospel music has a rich history in the black community and can be traced back as early as the 18th century and before blacks were allow to read or write...gospel music was an expressive means through which black folks could communicate and participate in worship.... In the tradition of the old black church, call and response in singing and in speaking has been and continues to be a foundation on which the gospel is delivered...But from the ghettos of Harlem and the streets of South Central to a little country church in Alabama this movement,of" Mimes Dance" has surprisingly been gaining momentum...I am also aware that some pastors don't acknowledge this as a ministry or allow it with- in the church walls...But according to identical twins (Keith and Karl)their ministry of mime is a silently interpretation of contemporary Gospel music with dramatic gestures and animated facial expressions, portraying man’s resistance of life’s evil temptations and his transformation from doubter to believer....Some believe like the Old Testament prophet Ezekiel who was called to announce God’s judgment on Israel and other nations and to proclaim restoration for God’s people that his preaching was not well received by the Jews who were with him in captivity (Chapter 3) so God gave Ezekiel many methods, illustrations and demonstrations to help get the message across to the Jews, (Chapters 4,5). Ezekiel acted out most of the methods and did illustrations for Israel. Israel later became restored again and God renewed the temple and a new Jerusalem (Chapter 40). A wonderful interview here!

Is It Possible To Be Born The Wrong Gender?

I Was watching a show on trans-sexual in which the question was ask is it possible to be born the wrong gender? I am speaking for me now because it's to God who I will have to answer on that day and yes, I think it's possible....I don't know that it matters whether or not people can actually be born the wrong gender.... What matters is how we treat people and that our actions are reflective of what Christ would do... last week a 11 year old boy killed himself after being bullied for being gay... It's the 4th suicide this year by a child due to anti-gay bullying... As stated, birth defects do happen... Whatever we want to attribute them to, doesn't mean that the person born that way should be blamed... I may not understand it, but we need to consider the possibility and stop being so quick to demonize people... If it's remotely possible for some to be born the wrong gender, then we need to listen to their thoughts/feelings...no mother should have to lose a child due to anti-gay bullying over something that is beyond the child's control or understanding... I agree God does not make mistakes I also know that genetic defects do occur and God in His all knowing power do allow them to be... If we can accept the repair of children born with a cleft palate or surgical removal of extra limbs, etc. why can't we accept that... But it seems we as 'Christians' are very judgmental when it comes to altering one genitalia... Is it impossible that that too could be a defect?

I Am Is My Name For Ever And Ever.

Our Heavenly Father is named the Great I AM (Ex. 3: 14) I AM' is the name of God. Of all the definitions of God, none is so well put as the biblical statement 'I AM that I AM' which appears in Exodus chapter three.... There are other statements such as I AM He.... But none is so direct as Jehovah [which means] 'I AM...So I ask has Beyonce Knowles Carter became a blasphemer by taking the title of YHVH (GOD) upon herself?...God has a big black belt and His kids (Me, Beyonce, and any-one else who claim Christ as savior) are about to-be in the middle of a spanking if we don't repent and turn away from this foolishness that we are involved in... God’s judgment comes to all of us (in one form or another) when we don’t correct our hard-headed brothers or sisters but allow their immoral behavior to continue in our churches and communities...we who are truly Christians can cool God’s judgment, by encouraging them to do the right thing correcting them when we see they are in error as our Father wants us to.... This is subliminal advertising at its best...The music industry is one of great importance, and has influence throughout the World... Children and young adults don’t only Idolize musicians, they memorize their songs and look to them as role models... Mastery of a favorite song brings the young person great joy, while at the same instant it brings great corruption...This Image of Beyonce Knowles conveys the subtle Idea that she is GOD (via symbolism and a use of particular words)....The crucifix in the below image stands out clear as if her music is "Christian"but of course it 's not... The biblical quote I Am comes from an Old Testament story that tells of an encounter between God and Moses. God, manifesting Himself as a voice, introduces Himself by saying, 'I Am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob' (Exodus 3:6) God appointed Moses to represent the Israelite s, who were then living as slaves in Egypt, in the court of the Egyptian Pharaoh... He wanted Moses to plead their case with the Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, and to lead them out of captivity... Moses asked for more information:

Then Moses said to God: 'If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ''The God of your fathers has sent me to you,'' and they ask, ''What is his name?'' what shall I say to them? God said to Moses, 'I am that I am'. And he said, 'Say this to the people of Israel, ''I am has sent me to you'' God is the same God of the Old and New Testament... The Israelites are His children of the Old His children of today is the Church... He treats us both similarly... Here is an example of how God punished His children - 36 men died because of one man’s sin... The Word of God is an instruction manual (2 Tim 3:16-17). It teaches us how to work as individuals and as a group, the church.

Is This Discrimination Against Fat People?

The airline announced Tuesday that larger travelers will have to pay twice as much for a flight. If you cannot fit in a single seat, buckle a seat belt property, or put the armrest down when seated, then you'll have to buy two tickets. United says it has the safety and comfort of all passengers in mind. In Canada, obese air travelers have a legal right to an extra seat at no extra cost. The one-person-one-fare policy is considered a guarantee against discrimination. Maybe it's time for the US to have the same law. Question: Charging obese flyers for two is it reasonable or ridiculous?

Michigan Man Father 14 Children With 13 Women.

Authorities in Michigan say a man fathered 14 children with 13 women and owes more than $530,000 in unpaid child support.
A Michigan newspaper reports 42-year-old Thomas Frazier was jailed Thursday.
Court records say he hasn't made a support payment in six years.
The newspaper says the unemployed man could be held for 90 days if he doesn't pay $27,900.
Frazier says he thinks he fathered only three of the children and it's unrealistic for authorities to expect him to pay child support that was $3,000 a month at one point.
Frazier remains held at the Genesee County Jail. Questions:
  1. What if women couldn't get child support if she unmarried?
  2. What if a woman knew that she was on her own if she got pregnant--no government support, no spousal support, no government subsidized abortions?
  3. What if she either had to raise the child, her choice, on her own or give the child up for adoption?
  4. Do you think she would be more selective about her bed companions?

While this guy is despicable and irresponsible he didn't come to this place by himself...he's been enabled by at least 13 women and probably more, who knows...There is no way for him to make right by all these kids.

Baby's First Grill Pacifiers.

I have always believe pacifiers were far better for children that thumb sucking but I don't know after witnessing something I saw Today...I do remember the days worrying about how much time my children had a pacifier in their mouth and how it would effect/affect their teeth....The old southern folks I grew up around didn't believe in pacifiers...the thinking at that time was pacifiers would make kids have buck teeth...I also remember looking for cute, simply designed pacifiers that wouldn't cover their face too much....Any way I was in Targets today and saw a baby with a grill pacifier in his mouth I had to take a double look...So when I got home I did a search and found this website offering some pacifiers of questionable taste, it got me to thinking why in the Hell would any parent buy this for their babies?...Are Billy Bob's pacifiers supposed to be funny or what?....A lot of things I don't get and this is one of them... You have the Playground Pimp, Baby's First Grill, and the buck-toothed Two Front Teeth.

President Obama Won't Charge CIA Employees For Torture

Individual CIA employees who carried out waterboarding (aka simulated drowning) will not be prosecuted for torture. The Obama administration announced the decision yesterday, while also releasing four "torture" memos from top legal officials in the Bush administration. Many people are upset by President Obama's decision. Since waterboarding is widely considered to be torture, they think the perpetrators should be brought to justice. By releasing the memos, Obama hopes to at least get the facts out there, so the same thing will not happen again. He said: "This is a time for reflection not retribution"....I think that this president is very mature in his thinking and his leadership... I think the decision he made was fair and I know that there are those on the right and left who disagree with it...I believe if the Right was in power they would not hesitate to place politics before reasoning because that's how they operate ...This is a very mature thinking guy...President Obama could easily have gone the other way. Questions:

  1. Would you like to see the individuals who actually tortured suspects put in jail?

  2. Do you think the President made the right call?

  3. Do you think they were just following orders?

  4. Do it matter what they were told, if they broke the law?

  5. Do you think we should prosecute the people who signed off on it?

A Black Man Can Be Hung For This.

It’s been almost 42 years since the U.S. Supreme Court knocked down a law barring interracial marriage. But today, at least in St. Louis, it seems to remain a touchy subject. On the cover of today’s Go! magazine, a regular section of Friday’s Post-Dispatch, there is a photo of a couple kissing to go along with the story “The 7 Best Places To Smooch”. The story hasn’t generated a ton of buzz, but the photo has... Why? Because the man is black and the woman is white... The reader comments at the end of the online version clearly showed us that at least some folks out there are not comfortable with interracial relationships... A quick search tells me that 7 percent of married couples are interracial and those numbers are growing as the minority groups in this country continue to grow.... Tiger Woods, Halle Barry, Derek Jeter and President Barack Obama are all products of interracial parents. Article Here... 21 pages of comments WOW!

Are The Somalis Just Defending Their Land And Shores?

I was reading two interesting articles today, just 3 days after Capt. Richard Phillips was rescued from that hostage situation in Somalian waters...the article explains why Somalians don’t condemn, and sometimes even encourage, their pirates... The argument has been tossed around the Internet a bit, but I haven’t seen it much in mainstream media, and especially not now that we’ve just recovered one of our very own from a dangerous situation...The argument is many Somali pirates are just trying to keep Somalia’s waters clean...Yes, that’s right!... Forget all the loot that comes with pirating... The pirates are merely conservationists, working in a country that has no government to do the dirty work they must take on. For the most part the Somali complaints goes toward European unions, who frequently dump waste illegally into Somalian waters... European companies were supposedly (and they might still be) paying warlords in Somalia to dump waste in the Indian ocean off the coast of Somalia. The reason is because it’s a lot cheaper to pay warlords than to dispose of the waste legally...The matter came to light in 2004, when a tsunami washed up toxic-waste containers onto the Somali shore. At the time, people started showing a variety of serious symptoms, including skin peeling off.

I was looking to see what other news organizations have covered the environmental nature of the pirate attacks, and came across this article from Al Jazeera, the Arabic news network... “Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, the UN envoy for Somalia confirmed to Al Jazeera the world body has ‘reliable information’ that European and Asian companies are dumping toxic waste, including nuclear waste, off the Somali coastline.”Nobody in the story would name any specific companies or expand on this “reliable information.”I chose to highlight this article because it is written from overseas, and because the comments after it say a lot.

Is Magic Johnson Hurting His Community?

Former basketball star Magic Johnson is losing his integrity amongst some of his one-time fan base because of his endorsement of Jackson Hewitt and its income tax refund loans, which were the target of state prosecutors for fraudulent marketing....Most people here the word integrity and think officials who take bribes or business leaders demanding kick-backs...But unlike our reputation which is how others see us , integrity is who we are when nobody is looking...The scriptures says "The integrity of the upright shall guide them" (Pr 11:3) I know we are in economic hard times, but Magic Johnson’s siren call of fast, easy money may be hurting many struggling families say consumer advocates, and that is worrisome... RALS are usually pitched to low-income clients who qualify for the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)—worth as much as $4,200 per family, depending on the number of children. Article Here! Job said, "Does He not see my ways...If I have walked with falsehood, or my foot has hastened to deceit? Let me be weighed on honest scales, that God may know my integrity?

Atlanta Mega-Church Was Forced To Downsize Easter Service.

Man hard times are hitting everyone.. New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, annual Easter service was forced to leave the Georgia Dome for the first time in more than 15 years. Bishop Eddie Long said his church revenues were off by about 20 percent from last year, a significant drop...which has forced his ministry to make changes like cutting back on its televised services and focusing more on online streaming to reach more viewers -- and potential donors. Impromptu job fairs have broken out on Sunday morning to connect those able to hire with members looking for work.

Since 1993, the megachurch -- which boasts a 25,000-member congregation that is largely black and mostly middle-class -- has held its annual Easter service at the Dome, attracting crowds of up to 40,000 that have included athletes, entertainers, politicians and entrepreneurs...Sitting governors have been among those in the pews, and candidates for office have also stopped by to worship and campaign... One year, the church's motorcycle ministry roared out of the stadium tunnels on choppers as Jesus and his disciples for a modern-day twist on the story.WOW!

Beneficiaries Marriage.

First let me state we all deserve the same rights and I believe we are headed in the right direction...Last week there was a lot of talk about marriage.... Vermont's legislature over rode the governor's veto to legalize gay marriage, and Washington DC pushed forward a law that would recognize legal same-sex marriages from other states...Any way Colorado just passed a law that allows any two unrelated adults to become a pair of "designated beneficiaries marriage " What does that mean? Beneficiaries couples can inherit property without a will, make medical decisions for one another, sue for wrongful death, and enjoy other benefits of a legal partnership commonly known as marriage... So two gay, or straight, or non-romantically involved people can enter into one of these contracts all the same...I agree 100% with the new law but I kinda get frustrated when gay rights advocates insist on calling their unions "marriage," because it's at that point I have a hard time separating the word marriage from the church ...I'd like to see more people framing this issue as a question of legal rights as opposed to a religious issue...And I think once same sex partners get the same rights, it will go a long way toward fixing the religious issue...So, I guess it's really just a question of strategy any way would you rather see a total separation of legal unions and religious ones?

Hats & The Old Black Church Go Hand - In Hand.

Growing up and living in the deep south we had school clothes, play clothes and church clothes because church was the one day of the week we really got to dress up...But today it's not unheard of to wear jeans to job interviews and flip-flops on first dates. Even when it comes to worship, there is an increasing come-as-you-are approach preached across faiths to encourage participation among youths... But in some denominations and especially among certain communities particularly African-Americans, attending church in your finest including furs, sequined shawls and ornate hats are tradition... In some faiths, including Judaism, covering one's head is expected when entering a holy sanctuary...While growing up in the deep south I remember my grandmother would not leave her house without some type of head dress on her head...even if it was only to the field to work for old man Charlie or to the local store she wore something on her head.

The LA Times has a cool story with great photos of “church crowns,” outtakes from the hat culture that remains alive and well in many black churches....Even if the world has gotten much more casual in recent decades, and hats are far less in numbers...the hat culture remains alive and well in many of the nation’s black churches...These 'church crowns' are about devotion with a touch of something delightful, and wearing them takes a bundle of attitude and self-esteem...Meeka Robinson-Davis, pictured in a red chapeau decorated with red, pink and yellow flowers, is a second-generation hat maker... She runs the Slauson Avenue branch of the store her mother Sonja Robinson founded, One-of-a-Kind Hats on Crenshaw Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Jack & Jill Of America A Well-To-Do Blacks Organization.

Jack and Jill of America, a social organization for black families, celebrated its 70th anniversary In 2008, ...But the organization is not open to just any family...Now for me I never heard of this organization until reading about it on a blog...For those of you like me who aren’t familiar with Jack & Jill, here’s a brief background: Several upper class mothers from Philadelphia created the organization in 1938 to ensure that their children were exposed to the best social, cultural and educational experiences... Simply put, the mothers wanted their children to meet and interact with other youth from a similar socio-economic background... many of the members of Jack and Jill...were the sons and daughters of doctors, dentists, lawyers, politicians and entrepreneurs...In order to “get in,” you had to be sponsored by an existing family...Since its existing Jack and Jill has been one of those groups that have remained important to the black community...However, the group's past and present members include the most prominent and wealthiest black families in every major city or suburb in the U.S...Why it's not a secret society, Jack and Jill does not seek or embrace publicity... simply, it is an invitation-only membership organization for black families where mothers are the official members, and children are the principal beneficiaries.... There are more than 200 chapters around the country and it is not easy to join. There is no application to fill out you have to be sponsored by a family who already belongs... The only other way to get in is to marry someone who grew up in the organization.”

Easter Is Proof Of God's Love For Humanity.

Resurrection Sunday, also known as Easter Sunday, is the most sacred day for Christians...Each year on this most holy day, we celebrate that Jesus gave his life as the supreme sign of love on behalf of all humanity, and we also rejoice that death did not have the final say over the life, lessons, and legacy of Jesus...Christians must move beyond that empty tomb that marked the very first Easter morning by affirming and believing that Jesus lives in the hearts of his faithful followers and, in turn, we have life everlasting in him... God loves us! Easter is nothing less than proof of God’s love for humanity.... It marks the continual process of God reaching out to us in order to be part of our lives....The promise that is fulfilled by Jesus on that first Resurrection Sunday—that God will be with us always—empowers us to endure the worst and best of times. Because this bittersweet tension of life is all the more intense for African American Christians, Easter has always had a particularly significant role in The Old Black Church tradition by signifying that we were serving a God of resurrection.
Because He Live I can face tomorrow.

God sent His son, they called Him, Jesus
He came to love, heal and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon,An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,Because He lives, all fear is gone;Because I know He holds the future,And life is worth the living,Just because He lives!
How sweet to hold a newborn baby,And feel the pride and joy he gives; But greater still the calm assurance:This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!

It Is Finished!

Holy Saturday is the day Jesus rested in the tomb... It is traditionally a day of quiet meditation as Christians contemplate the darkness of a world without a future and without hope apart from God and his grace...we no that in the Old Testament tabernacle there were different items of furniture such as the table of showbread representing our need for fellowship the lamp stand representing our need for light and understanding, etc...But there were no chairs. Why? The priest's work was never finished!... He couldn't sit down...But after Jesus cried "It is finished" He returned to heaven and sat down at the right hand of His Father-the work of redemption was complete!.. The Greek words for "It is finished" literally mean "paid in full!" Christ death covers our every sin from the cradle to the grave. And for us to offer our filthy works as partial payment is a slap in Gods face...We can't add to a finished work! We no that weeping may endure for a night but Joy comes in the morning. (Psa 30:5).

The Nation's First Black President Is Not Worthy Of An Honorary Degree.

I don't use ugly words in my house but sometimes I want to say what the "Hell" is wrong with people.... If being a U.S. Senator and President of the United States -- the so-called leader of the free world -- is not enough to be deemed as having made significant contributions to society "Hell" who is... Obama also has a long list of contributions to education.

The first bill Obama sponsored in Congress was the HOPE Act.... He developed comprehensive plans for students to receive education benefits in exchange for public service... Not to mention that he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review, taught Constitutional law at an ivy league university, and, among many other accomplishments, served as a community organizer where established an adult education program and a college preparatory program in inner-city Chicago. It is hard to see how these achievements fail to merit honor.

ASU will not award President Barack Obama an honorary degree when he speaks at the commencement ceremony on May 13...the university spokeswoman said Tuesday that the University awards honorary degrees to recognize individuals for their work and accomplishments spanning their lifetime....Arizona State University's spokesman explains why the school will not give the president an honorary degree when he speaks at the commencement ceremony...Again what the "HELL."

Good Friday!

Good Friday is the day that Christians all over the world observe and honor the crucifixion and death of Jesus.... this day represents the suffering of Jesus which is represented in all four of the Gospels.... this suffering also represented the week prior to the crucifixion of Jesus called the Passion of Christ.... This passion, meaning suffering, is an extreme time of pain in the life of Jesus.

Good Friday falls on the last Friday before Easter... It 's a day to show humility and reverence....many Christians observe this as a day of prayer and fasting...Crosses and chairs may be draped in black.... During Holy week, you will often see a cross either inside a church or outside draped in black or purple cloth.... The service of worship is traditionally offered between noon and 3:00 p.m., the time that coincides with the hours that Jesus hung on the cross... Good Friday is not a holiday but a religious observance, most Christian have to work and are only available to attend an evening service. Good Friday evening services are commonplace in the black church.

Often used as a somber processional for the Good Friday Service, the hymn “Calvary “is effective in helping sustain a reflective meditative mood. Ministers are traditionally robed in black for this service. This song identifies with the suffering of Christ...I love Richard Smallwood version of Calvary.

Immigration And The President!

With unemployment on the rise there's one thing our President is not shying away from is America's immigration problem... The President will soon get started on a plan that will likely include a pathway to citizenship for the 12 million illegal immigrants living within America's borders. George W. Bush tried to do the same thing, but his effort went down in Republican opposition....The president faces an even tougher climate since Americans are more concerned with losing their jobs to immigrants thanks to the recession...But the president will frame his agenda as "policy reform that controls immigration and makes it an orderly system." Let's see how that work"....The president will start his policy push in May, and gather bipartisan groups to discuss legislation. The hope is to introduce a bill in Congress this Fall.

Question? Do you think people are ready for reform?

Maundy Thursday!

Today is “Maundy Thursday which is the story of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet on the eve of Passover and tomorrow is Good Friday followed by Black Saturday and then Easter Sunday.”The name "Maundy Thursday" is derived from Jesus "mandate" to love one another as he loves us... I remember growing up in a church were feet washing was part of the Holy Week Celebration... it is a powerful testimony to us all who are call to serve... in which we find love for others.... feet washing has been a significant act throughout the old black Church....you had some churches that wash feet before communion and some who did not... growing up I would ask why are they doing this...now I understand what is behind this practice of feet washing... it help us understand Jesus thinking.... it's not robbery to take the feet of the disciples who would take the Gospel into the world...the idea of living out personal victory with our feet is very powerful...for example...we can walk away from sin by walking to life.

Pop Winans Boarded His Train For Glory Today.

This train bound for glory picked up "Pop" Winans" today.... the patriarchal gospel great died at his home surround by his family....I caught Pop Winans on TBN some years ago....man Pop was a joy to listen to and watch as he praise and worship his Lord.....Pop sung a song that I will never for get called "This Train"...It was something about that song that prick my heart and caused me to think about my own train ride home one day....I am talking about that train which will pick up every soul ...Like Pop Winans said This Train want carry no soul who don't have Jesus. (Clip Here)
Lovingly referred to as Mom and Pop Winans, the deeply rooted Detroit couple crafted an impressive career that later extended to their children and grandchildren. Their music legacy also helped establish the city as the gospel capital of the world.

David "Pop" Winans' health took a turn for the worst late last year. He suffered a series of four strokes, seizures and a heart attack beginning in the fall of 2008 and was admitted to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak on Sept. 30.

It Will Cost You Something To Be Black In America.

I was reading this article in which a study suggests whites don't grasp what it means to be black in America.....In the study the question was ask how much should you be paid to live out your days as a black person? That's the question white Americans were asked as part of the study exploring whites' resistance to reparations .... Now these kinds of studies are problematic in and of themselves ....yet they do offer an interesting view of America....It shows just how many Whites do not understand that it cost to wear Black skin in America....As for me I really don't understand White America way of thinking but the little understanding that I do have it come mostly from the media.... with its constant diet of how good it is to be White in America....really! I could care less whether Whites wanted to be Black or not.... for me like I stated It's more of an understanding that it cost something to be Black in America....I will never understand what it's like to have White privilege but I have a good idea of how good it could be but I also understand it's not going to happen....I am a Black Woman who never wanted to be any thing other than Black.....Chris Rock said it best when he said "not a single White guy in this room wants to trade places with me AND I'M RICH!"... Now that's how good it is to be White in America.... Do you no it's so good to be listed as White in America that Indian immigrants (from the continent of India) are considered "White"? on many census and business forms.... You don't see nobody else volunteering to be Black do you? I wonder why!

While the 958 people who answered generally said they would accept less than $10,000 to be black, they also said they would need something closer to $1 million to give up TV, according to the study led by Ohio State University psychology professor Philip Mazzocco and published in the current issue of .Harvard University's Du Bois Review In other words, giving up television was seen as a big sacrifice, whereas changing one's race was seen as trivial. The results suggest that whites may not be fully aware of the persisting discrimination and prejudice blacks face today, Mazzocco says. According to the research cited in the study, 9 out of 10 whites reject the idea of reparations for the descendants of slaves, despite the evidence of multiple disparities between blacks and whites. Compared with whites, blacks are:

_ nearly 4.5 times as likely to be imprisoned in a lifetime;
_ more than five times as likely to be a victim of homicide;
_ 42.3 percent more likely to lack health coverage;
_ live with a median income 55.3 percent lower;
_ face a 173 percent higher poverty rate;
_ 59.5 percent less likely to have a college degree.

Happy Palm Sunday!

Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem as a humble king on a colt, on his way to death on a cross. As he enters, people spread their clothes on the road along with branches (traditionally depicted as palm branches) while shouting “Hosanna” or “save now.” Jesus’ entry can be viewed as the beginning of a victory march towards death and over death, which is why the people cried out “save” to him. Though Jesus is ultimately on his way to the cross, there is still a mood of celebration on Palm Sunday because there is a recognition that Jesus is “King Jesus” and, ultimately, he wins the victory, and he is the only who can save us. On Palm Sunday, many black churches focus their attention on salvation, or victory, through Jesus Christ; one may even hear “Ride on King Jesus, no man can a-hinder me” while palm branches are waved in the air.

Tonex Album Cover Looks Kinda Demonic!

Is Tonex really serious?? This album cover is looking demonic and like its straight from the gate of Hell. This is NOT of Christ and it has absolutely nothing to do with Christ! I was really hoping that Tonex would actually decides who he wants to live for because frankly I’m tired of him and others tricking people into thinking this is what Christian hip hop is about!!!Have we Christians lost sight of what’s truly REAL these days?

I am definitely of the old school mixed with R&B and Jazz persuasion and that flavor is what Tonex bring to the table but this is not of Christ. Now I’m with other folks praying for him to truly know the Lord! I am not judging anyone for their past ungodly lifestyle and sins, because I also have one...but Tonéx is showing that he is still hanging on to the old. There is no new Tonéx with this album just a repackaging with the purpose of the goal of “making money” to be accepted by the world’s standard of success.

Many Christians are turning a blind eye to his current lifestyle and accepting nearly everything that Tonéx does as “genius” or even “spiritual.” Spiritual it is, but not godly spirituality. If Tonéx remembers anything about God at all, he would remember these things:

  1. One does not glory in their sin - 1 Corinthians 5:1-8
  2. Profanity should not be a part of a Christian’s language - James 1:26, James 3:1-9
  3. Abstain from sexual immorality - Romans 1:18-32
  4. Do not love the pursuit of money - 2 Timothy 3:1-5, 1Timothy 6:9
  5. Do not get caught up loving the things of this world - 1 John 2:15-17
  6. Show Jesus real love by obeying Him - John 14:15, 21

There’s no doubt God loves Tonéx, but the real question is whether or not Tonéx loves God! Do the songs from his new CD prove his love for the Lord? If his songs do not match his actions, they are mere empty musical pieces.

Is The Devil Real - What Does The Bible Say?

I know what I believe, and am convinced both God and Satan exist. Understand, I do not worship Satan, but give honor and glory to God my Father, and his Son, Jesus Christ. I believe in the power and majesty of the gospel of Christ and am persuaded the Spirit of God still works in the lives of people who are saved by faith in the shed blood of the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

Whether we call him Satan, Lucifer, Beelzebub - or whether we are afraid to speak his name at all the destroyer is still on his job.
  1. Is the devil real?
  2. Can he assume different shapes?
  3. How much power does he have?
  4. If God is all-powerful, how could the devil have rebelled against Him and taken up dominion on earth?
  5. Is the Devil Real - How does the devil work?

The Bible, taken literally, clearly states the devil exists. Satan is mentioned by name in 47 passages (NIV). The devil is mentioned in 33 more. He is described as the one who tempted Adam and Eve into original sin in the Garden of Eden; he is the one who tempted Jesus in the desert.

Some people don't believe the Bible is literally true. When they ask, "Is the devil real?" they must rely more on personal experiences in the world. No one can deny that there is evil in the world. How are we to discern whether this is simply the result of human nature, as opposed to evidence of some outside force at work?

Here, again, it is interesting to look at the way Satan worked in the Bible and compare that with the issues we face in day-to-day living. When Satan tempted Jesus, he appealed to three things:

  1. the lust of the flesh
  2. the lust of the eyes
  3. the boastful pride of life.

First he challenged Jesus, after a 40-day fast, to use his powers to make food and satisfy His fleshly needs. Then he challenged Jesus to look at the world from a high place and offered Him dominion over all He saw. Finally, he tempted Jesus to throw Himself down from a tower, saying that surely, as God's son, He would be saved - an appeal to pride.

Whatever temptations we face, they seem to fall into these categories:

  1. Pornography, adultery, gluttony all appeal to lusts of the flesh.
  2. Materialism and the quest for power appeal to the lust of the eyes.
  3. When we strive to reach spiritual heights, we are threatened with the sinful pride of believing WE are more important than God.

Perhaps the devil doesn't appear to us in person. Perhaps he doesn't caper about with a pitchfork, with horns and a forked tail. But we may know he is there by the way he acts, just as we may know a skunk is near through its unmistakable stench.

Is the Devil Real - What is our response?
