From The Cradle To The Grave Wal-Mart Has Got You Cover.

I stumbled across this article on MSNBC.com and thought it's worth mentioning.... It turns out that Wal-Mart has got us cover from the cradle to the grave...You can buy infants milk at Wal-mart as well as coffins online, that's right, coffins.... Now it is truly your one-stop shopping destination...The best part is that you can find the caskets under the "health and beauty" section:) I would love to thank Wal-mart for reminding us that one day we all are getting up out of here...Way to go Wal-Mart!

  1. That settles it. Wal-mart is trying to make all the money. And I, like Mary, wonder who is buying them. When I think coffin, Walmart does not come to mind.

  2. i can actually see walmart.com doing this. it makes sense with the business model that they have. walmart has contracts with many manufactures. many of the items that are offered on walmart.com are not kept in physical inventory, but if someone wanted to buy something, here comes the middle man walmart making their cut off that sale. the manufacture needs buyers and who better to help sell the merchandise than walmart.com.

  3. Now that is just absolutely ridiculous! I mean, does Walmart not have enough money already! They have already closed up many small local stores and businesses, now they are apparently trying to put funeral homes out of business. The love of money!

  4. Hi there,

Well... it's about time Walmart stepped in and messed up the price fixing in the death services business! People who have lost their loved ones have NO CLUE about the enormous mark up that exists with various services in the death industry.

A coffin can easily cost $5,000 if purchased through the funeral home (that actually doesn't own the company but buys the coffin for you at wholesale prices and then takes their huge cut by billing you retail prices!). Walmart will sell the same item for $1,000.

Sure, this means that the funeral home directors will be mad...and so what...they've made a mint from the lack of price scrutiny of families for long enough.
