The Washingtonian Magazine Cover Is Disrespectiful To The President And The Country.

The President of the United States Barack Obama is on the cover of the Washingtonian Magazine May issue...The image was taken during a recent vacation in Hawaii following the election in December...The cover is causing a stir among protective supporters and the more conservative (in the non-political sense.) The choice comes to many as a surprise as the Washingtonian is generally noted for being far more clean cut in its image... The magazine is regarded as the beltway’s top magazine, noted for its regular rankings and detailed coverage of area professionals, businesses, and places, the publication typical stays away from such controversy...Many critics have called the cover disrespectful as it depicts the presidency as Hollywood thus robbing him of his power equity. Would the magazine have published a shirtless photo of any other president for its cover? NO! President Bush was buff but we did not see a picture of him shirtless.

My thoughts: We're going to see a lot more of this especially from magazines since Their industry is dying and desperate times call for desperate measures....To me the picture is completely out of character... Although the Washingtonian has been known to take a shot or two over the years with its political cartoons I don’t think we have ever seen the president shirtless... Tabloid, gossip and entertainment rags…yes I’d understand. This just comes off as an publicity stunt.

  1. This was orignally a shot taken by a tabloid photographer so the President was unaware that it was even being shot. I believe it is inappropriate to have this particular photo as a covershot.

  2. Hey there Annie,

Can we just review some obvious facts first?

Fact #1Barack Obama KNEW that photographers were tailing him to Hawaii.

Fact #2He was already President-Elect when he took the trip to Hawaii. He knew there would be official and unofficial photographers all over scrambling to take shots of him.

Fact #3He wanted to be shirtless outside. No one forced him.

Surely he knew there was a chance he would be photographed. If he's going to do this type of thing then he needs to prepare for how those photos of him will crop up.

If I go outside dressed inappropriately then the photos of me doing so are fair game.

    Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

  3. Dressed inappropriately? He was at the beach.

There have been millions of photos of the president taken, so unless the mag was doing a "fun in the sun" issue, why would they reach back to December for this picture.

Yes, he was dressed inappropriately as the President Elect to be shirtless ANYWHERE in the midst of photographers.

Mandingo photo ops are unbecoming of the leader of the superpower of this world. HE KNEW the photographers were everywhere he walked on the island - day and night!

Yes, it is a beach. Women are wearing in bikinis and thongs at the beach too but if Michelle were to show up in a public beach with a thong bikini then I would say she was dressed inappropriately as First Lady to be there with a bikini on.

Dignitaries don't get to do what everyone else does. That comes with the territory.
