President Obama Won't Charge CIA Employees For Torture

Individual CIA employees who carried out waterboarding (aka simulated drowning) will not be prosecuted for torture. The Obama administration announced the decision yesterday, while also releasing four "torture" memos from top legal officials in the Bush administration. Many people are upset by President Obama's decision. Since waterboarding is widely considered to be torture, they think the perpetrators should be brought to justice. By releasing the memos, Obama hopes to at least get the facts out there, so the same thing will not happen again. He said: "This is a time for reflection not retribution"....I think that this president is very mature in his thinking and his leadership... I think the decision he made was fair and I know that there are those on the right and left who disagree with it...I believe if the Right was in power they would not hesitate to place politics before reasoning because that's how they operate ...This is a very mature thinking guy...President Obama could easily have gone the other way. Questions:

  1. Would you like to see the individuals who actually tortured suspects put in jail?

  2. Do you think the President made the right call?

  3. Do you think they were just following orders?

  4. Do it matter what they were told, if they broke the law?

  5. Do you think we should prosecute the people who signed off on it?

  1. Now, what to we say to Pvt. English and the other G.I.'s that had their pictures taken in the prison??

I suggest before anyone responds to your innocent queries as platform for civil engagement that they think twice. Your response, either yea or nay, may make you an enemy of the statist.

Barney Frank said it best, "Labels are important." We have an administration that labels overseas terrorist as "pirates" or "man-caused disasters". However, the autocratic regime labels military veterans, religious believers, pro-life advocates, 1st and 2nd Amendment advocates as domestic terrorists or extremists or even racist if you did not vote for the autocrat. Any dissenting opinion is observed as treason and a threat to the well-being of the nation. While we shake hands with Castro and Chavez, our nation's protectors--CIA and military--are observed as threats to the legal framework of our Constitution.

The most poisoned fruit is that many of you affirmed that because of the autocrat's race and Christian background that "we" were safe in his protected grace. Now that we are no longer a "Christian" nation and our "bow" satisfies the leaders of our former "enemy combatant states", many of us deemed citizen may have to re-evaluate new citizenship standards. If you agree with the autocrat, you are a citizen. If not, go to your nearest harbor or airport. Hopefully, other nations will take you.

I am comforted with your assessment of the autocrats' maturity and leadership. He certainly is fair and just. As a wealthy family, it is fair and just for him to send his daughters to one of the District's most expensive and successful private schools. However, for the poor young people that receive "vouchers" to attend the same school, it is most unfair for them to be around such "mature and wealthy" leaders. The autocrat is doing them a great favor and sending them back to the ultimate bastion of government success: the DC Public Schools (DCPS) System. The poor young people will learn so much more in the halls of institutions that produce high school graduates with glowing resumes: only 30% are proficient at reading and only 10% are proficient at math at the 12th grade level. GENIUS!

  3. Kenneth,I will not address any of that non-sense you came with but I will say President Obama is wise beyond his years and a very mature thinking leader with values...I think our life is a direct result of the vaules that fashioned it...We all know that wisdom comes from above so biblical speaking the president reminds me of David son, King Solomon. Enough Said!

  4. I would love to see the whole bush Gang put in jail or before a firing sqaud but I think that it's the right call. He has already said it's torture, we not doin it and so on. Smart, pragmatic rule.
