The Blessing Of Abraham.

Here's another sign of the tough economic times: Some clinics are reporting a surge in the number of women applying to donate eggs or serve as surrogate mothers for infertile couples. I mention this a couple of months ago.

The going rate for a surrogate is about $25,000. Egg donors generally receive $3,000 to $8,000. But a few agencies advertise that they'll pay much more for specific characteristics. One ad running in campus newspapers promises $25,000 for a donor who is "100% Jewish with ... High SAT Scores... Attractive, at Healthy Body Weight and Free of Genetic Diseases."

The rest of the story here.

  1. Hello there!

There is a bit of class discrimination and racial discrimination in this business because a white woman who is 22 years old and attractive will be offered one price to donate her eggs and a black women who is 22 and attractive will not be offered the same price! The clinics justify this by stating that the price they will give for donations is based on the demand for the eggs.

Okey dokey....but it still seems like racial discrimination to me if the price of the eggs is determined by the race of the mother...

  2. No matter the topic or whether there is an agreement of opinion, I must say Lisa that I enjoy viewing your responses. The thoughts are well developed, the premises succinct and arguments filled with vitality. Your cosmopolitan arrangements are as welcoming as Ella Fitzgerald's voicings on Duke Ellington's A-Train. Keep the style alive!

Merely a compliment. Not intended to be taken as a conspiracy to take down either the black race or its church!
