Former President Clinton struck a high tone with black parishioners Sunday, noting the historic nature of the Democratic presidential race in which his wife is a leading candidate and not once mentioning her rival by name. Why do candidates running for office always find their way to the black church? Do we have power that we don't recognize?
Clinton's back-to-back appearances at 4 black churches in the city's historically black heartland appeared intended to smooth over perceptions that he injected race into the campaign in the heated run-up to the Democratic primary in South Carolina.
Former President Clinton laughs with Pastor Noel Jones, left, and Ambassador Sidney Williams as he campaigns for his wife, Democratic presidential hopeful, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., at the City of Refuge Church in Gardena, Calif., Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008.
The former president never uttered Obama's name when he spoke for about 20 minutes at the City of Refuge church in Gardena, but struck a conciliatory tone in describing the Democratic contest as "an embarrassment of riches." What do you think should the pulpit be open to politician on Sunday morning when clearly that's not it purpose?

It is actually against the law and they can lose their 501(c)(3) status. I pray that they do!!! PIMPS in the pulpit!!!
Some Bishops will do anything to get their name in the lights and get more money from folk. But God is going to clean out the churches of this whoredom soon and expose all the culprits!
I don't think that the pulpit she be opened to politicians. I've always had a problem with this because it seems that the politicians will stay for 5 minutes to give their speech and then slip out. In my opinion, they are there to use the congregation to get a vote only.
Also, I don't think pastors should be endorsing preachers. We all have our own minds, and can make our own decisions. Great post by the way JJ. I just love your blog and your topics!!! I've got to play catch up in reading your posts because I've been away for a while.
This is a sad state of affairs. Black churches need to get back to the word of God. People should see through these charades for what they are and walk out, go and be part of a biblical congregation.
JJ, I'm actually sharing some thoughts on the black church at my other blog, if you click on the Manna For The Soul link at the Soul Theologian blog.
I haven't hit on the political side yet, but I'm getting there.
Blessings,
Soul Theologian.
